Headboard with back light strip
Abstract
Described are bed systems having a headboard, backward facing lights positioned at a back side of the headboard, and a controller operably connected to the backward facing lights that can drive the backward facing lights to provide circadian lighting. The backward facing lights can be recessed into the back side of the headboard. The backward facing lights can provide ambient lighting when controlled by the controller. The controller can determine when a user of the bed system is waking up and control the backward facing lights to provide circadian lighting that corresponds to a wakeup routine for the user. The controller can also determine when the user is going to sleep and control the backward facing lights to provide circadian lighting that corresponds to a sleep routine for the user. The backward facing lights can be LED strips positioned inside an extruded channel in the back side of the headboard.

21 . A headboard for a bed comprising:
a front surface configured to face a mattress; a back surface opposite and facing away from the front surface, the back surface comprising an outer perimeter, a portion of the back surface angled relative to the front surface; and a light strip positioned on the back surface.
22 . The headboard of claim 21 , wherein the light strip is offset inward from the outer perimeter and positioned in an elongate gap defined in the back surface.
23 . The headboard of claim 21 , wherein the portion of the back surface is angled towards a midpoint of the back surface.
24 . The headboard of claim 21 , wherein the portion of the back surface comprises a left portion angled from a midpoint towards the front surface.
25 . The headboard of claim 21 , wherein the portion of the back surface comprises a right portion angled from a midpoint towards the front surface.
26 . The headboard of claim 21 , wherein a midpoint of the back surface extends farther from than the front surface than a remainder of the back surface.
27 . The headboard of claim 21 , wherein a thickness of the headboard is greater at a midpoint of the headboard than at outer sides of the headboard.

The headboard of claim 21 , wherein the portion of the back surface angled relative to the front surface comprises a left portion and a right portion angled, such that when in use, an increased glow of light from the light strip occurs from left and right sides of the headboard due to a first angle of the left portion and a second angle of the right portion.
29 . The headboard of claim 21 , wherein a top portion of the headboard is wider than a middle portion.
30 . The headboard of claim 21 , wherein a bottom portion of the headboard is narrower than a middle portion.
31 . The headboard of claim 21 , wherein the portion of the back surface of the headboard is tilted such that the portion of the back surface is angled downward toward a surface on which the headboard is resting.
32 . The headboard of claim 21 , wherein the portion of the back surface of the headboard is maintained in a substantially straight plane that is angled relative to the front surface in a downward direction.
33 . The headboard of claim 32 , wherein the portion of the back surface comprises an entirety of the back surface.
34 . The headboard of claim 21 , wherein the portion of the back surface is angled relative to the front surface, such that when in use, an increased glow of light from the light strip occurs downward toward a surface on which the headboard is resting.
35 . The headboard of claim 21 , wherein a top portion of the headboard is narrower than a middle portion.
36 . The headboard of claim 21 , wherein a bottom portion of the headboard is wider than a middle portion.
37 . The headboard of claim 21 , wherein the portion of the back surface of the headboard is tilted upward such that the portion of the back surface is angled away from a surface on which the headboard is resting.
38 . The headboard of claim 21 , wherein the portion of the back surface of the headboard is maintained in a substantially straight plane that is angled relative to the front surface in an upward direction.
39 . The headboard of claim 38 , wherein the portion of the back surface comprises an entirety of the back surface.
40 . The headboard of claim 21 , wherein the portion of the back surface is angled relative to the front surface, such that when in use, an increased glow of light from the light strip occurs upward toward a ceiling below which the headboard is positioned.
