Multifunction Rig Mat

Abstract

A modular rig mat system for use with portable buildings at drilling sites comprises a base portion and a smaller roof supported by collapsible stands, creating covered and uncovered areas. The system features an adjustable bit stand for inspecting and cleaning drill bits, centrally located with adjustable horizontal and vertical positioning capabilities. Additional modular components include collapsible seating with integrated storage, support stands for elongated equipment, safety storage for emergency equipment, and recreational fixtures in the uncovered area. The mat can be equipped with power sources including solar panels and wind turbines mounted on external collapsible stands. The entire structure is designed for easy transport, with the base featuring lifting holes for forklift access, and all components being collapsible or removable for flat-pack transportation. The system addresses the need for consistent, convenient drill bit inspection and measurement in oil & gas operations while providing auxiliary workspace functionality.

1 . A modular rig mat comprising:
 a base portion having a first area;   a roof portion connected to the base portion by a plurality of collapsible stands, the roof portion having a second area smaller than the first area, defining covered and uncovered areas of the base portion; and   a bit stand located in the covered area of the base portion,   
       wherein the roof portion can be lowered by means of the collapsible stands. 
     
     
         2 . The modular rig mat of  claim 1 , wherein the base portion comprises two parallel layers, and further comprising a plurality of lifting slots between the parallel layers of the base. 
     
     
         3 . The modular rig mat of  claim 1 , further comprising collapsible seating located on the covered area of the base portion. 
     
     
         4 . The modular rig mat of  claim 3 , further comprising at least one storage space located under the collapsible seating. 
     
     
         5 . The modular rig mat of  claim 1 , further comprising at least one storage space located within the uncovered area of the base portion. 
     
     
         6 . The modular rig mat of  claim 1 , wherein the bit stand comprises:
 a lower plane mounted to a stand;   a first upper protrusion, parallel to and above the lower plane, wherein the first upper protrusion comprises a hollow crossbar;   a second upper protrusion, parallel to and above the lower plane, and located a horizontal distance from the first upper protrusion, wherein the second upper protrusion comprises a solid crossbar that mates with the hollow crossbar of the first upper protrusion; and   at least one clamp determining the horizontal distance between the first and second upper protrusions by fixing the solid crossbar within the hollow crossbar.   
     
     
         7 . The bit stand of  claim 6 , further comprising another clamp which determines the vertical distance between the lower plane and the first and second upper protrusions. 
     
     
         8 . The modular rig mat of  claim 1 , further comprising a row of spaced support stands located along a line in the uncovered area of the base portion. 
     
     
         9 . The modular rig mat of  claim 1 , further comprising a safety sign, a fire extinguisher, an air conditioning unit, a first aid box, a collapsible wind sock, a hydration station, a grill, or combinations thereof, located on the uncovered area of the base portion. 
     
     
         10 . The modular rig mat of  claim 1 , further comprising a wind turbine, a solar panel, or combinations thereof.
