Hair Extension Closure and Method of Integrating Hair Extensions
Abstract
A hair extension comprising a first component comprising a first plurality of projections and a second component comprising a second plurality of projections adapted to engage in an interlocking fit. The first plurality of projections of the first component form interstitial spaces therebetween, and the second plurality of projections of the second component form interstitial spaces therebetween. The interstitial spaces formed by the first plurality of projections of the first component are adapted to receive the second plurality of projections of the second component. The interstitial spaces formed by the second plurality of projections of the second component are adapted to receive the first plurality of projections of the first component. The first plurality of projections of the first component engage with the second plurality of projections of the second component, providing an interlocking fit and may form vents therebetween for aeration. Methods of integrating hair extensions also are provided.

9 . The hair extension closure of claim 5 wherein the first plurality of projections of the first component and the second plurality of projections of the second component form any geometry configured to enable the projections to interlock without overlapping.
10 . The hair extension closure of claim 5 wherein the first component and the second component are constructed from bamboo, laminated bamboo, stainless steel, fiberglass, short bamboo fiber, thermosetting polymers, matte polyurethane panels, flat latex and soft metals, including gold, silver, tin, zinc, aluminum, thorium, copper, brass and bronze.
11 . The hair extension closure of claim 5 wherein the first plurality of projections of the first component are integrally formed with the first component and the second plurality of projections of the second component are integrally formed with the second component and wherein the first plurality of projections and the first component and the second plurality of projections and the second component are lined with a waterproof or water-resistant sealant or coating.
12 . The hair extension closure of claim 5 wherein the first plurality of projections are separately formed from the first component and the second plurality of projections of the second component are separately formed from the second component and wherein the first plurality of projections and the second plurality of projections are made from polyurethane, latex, rubber, neoprene, silicone rubber, silicone elastomers, silicone latex, siloxane waterproofing, clear silicone waterproof sealant, polyurethane, protein hydrolysates, silicone, including dimethicones, aminosilicones, siloxysilicates, and anionic silicones, thermoplastic elastomers or cyclomethicone or combinations of the foregoing.
13 . The hair extension closure of claim 5 wherein:
the first component has a thickness and the first plurality of projections of the first component has a thickness and the wherein the thickness of the first plurality of projections of the first component is substantially equal to the thickness of the first component; and
the second component has a thickness and the second plurality of projections of the second component has a thickness and the wherein the thickness of the second plurality of projections is substantially equal to the thickness of the second component.
14 . The hair extension closure of claim 1 wherein the first component has a first side and comprises hair-like strokes in the first side of the first component to camouflage the hair extension closure.
15 . The hair extension closure of claim 1 wherein either or both of the first component and the second component comprise a weft of extension hair to camouflage the hair extension closure.
16 . A method of installing a hair extension in the hair of a wearer, the method comprising the steps of:
forming a first part in the hair of the wearer to create a first section; supplying a first hair extension closure comprising a first component comprising a first plurality of projections and a second component comprising a second plurality of projections; placing the second component of the first hair extension closure adjacent the first part; placing a first weft of extension hair in engagement with the second plurality of projections of the second component of the first hair extension closure; and placing the first component of the first hair extension closure over the second component of the first hair extension closure in engagement with the first weft of extension hair.
17 . The method of claim 16 further comprising the step of, prior to placing the first component of the first hair extension closure in engagement with the first weft of extension hair, placing one or more additional wefts of extension hair in engagement with the second plurality of projections of the second component of the first hair extension closure.
18 . The method of claim 16 further comprising the step of interlocking the first plurality of projections of the first component with the second plurality of projections of the second component to secure the first weft of extension hair in the first hair extension closure.
19 . The method of claim 18 further comprising the step of clamping together the first component and the second component of the first hair extension closure.
20 . The method of claim 18 further comprising the steps of:
forming a second part in the hair of the wearer to create a second section;
supplying a second hair extension closure comprising a first component comprising a first plurality of projections and a second component comprising a second plurality of projections;
placing the second component of the second hair extension closure adjacent the second part;
placing a second weft of extension hair in engagement with the second plurality of projections of the second component of the second hair extension closure; and
placing the first component of the second hair extension closure over the second component of the hair extension closure in engagement with the second weft of extension hair.
21 . The method of claim 20 further comprising the step of, prior to placing the first component of the second hair extension closure in engagement with the second weft of extension hair, placing one or more additional wefts of extension hair in engagement with the second plurality of projections of the second component of the second hair extension closure.
