Wearable, configurable personal electronic device

Abstract

A configurable, wearable electronic device is shown and described. The configurable, wearable electronic device may be configured to be worn around a user's neck via a lanyard and a special longitudinal insert of the configurable having an attached tether, worn on a user's clothing via a conforming cradle assembly or worn on a user's wrist by removing one or more longitudinal inserts of the configurable, wearable electronic device and connecting a wrist strap having two longitudinal inserts that fit into a respective channel of the configurable, wearable electronic device.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A wireless panic button, comprising:
 a housing having a cavity, a first channel that is formed through a first portion of the housing extending from a first side of the housing to an opposing second side of the housing, and a first passage that extends perpendicularly into the first channel from an exterior surface of the housing;   a release button   a pushbutton located inside the cavity;   a cover supported by the housing and depressible into the cavity to actuate the pushbutton;   a wireless transmitter; and   a processing device having an associated memory for storing instruction wherein the instructions, when executed by the processing device, cause a transmission of a wireless signal via use of the wireless transmitter in response to a sensed actuation of the pushbutton.   
     
     
         2 . The wireless panic button as recited in  claim 1 , further comprising a first insert removably insertable into the first channel and a second insert movable within the first passage to secure the first insert within the first channel. 
     
     
         3 . The wireless panic button as recited in  claim 2 , wherein the second insert comprises a recess, a flexible tab positioned over the recess, and a pad mounted on the flexible tab extending in a direction away from the recess configured to be forced into the passage and against the first insert when the first insert is fully inserted into the first channel. 
     
     
         4 . The wireless panic button as recited in  claim 3 , wherein the flexible tab is substantially flush with one or more surfaces of the second insert and the pad extends past the at least one portion of the surface of the second insert when the second insert is in a quiescent position. 
     
     
         5 . The wireless panic button of  claim 4 , wherein the one or more surfaces of the second insert comprises a convex surface and a flat surface. 
     
     
         6 . The wireless panic button of  claim 2 , wherein the first insert is coupled to a lanyard. 
     
     
         7 . The wireless panic button of  claim 2 , wherein the first insert is coupled to a wrist band. 
     
     
         8 . The wireless panic button of  claim 1 , wherein the housing has a second channel that is formed through a second portion of the housing extending from the first side of the housing to the opposing second side of the housing, and a second passage that extends perpendicularly into the second channel from the exterior surface of the housing. 
     
     
         9 . The wireless panic button as recited in  claim 8 , further comprising a first insert removably insertable into the second channel and a second insert movable within the second passage to secure the first insert within the second channel. 
     
     
         10 . The wireless panic button as recited in  claim 9 , wherein the second insert comprises a recess, a flexible tab positioned over the recess, and a pad mounted on the flexible tab extending in a direction away from the recess configured to be forced into the passage and against the first insert when the first insert is fully inserted into the second channel. 
     
     
         11 . The wireless panic button as recited in  claim 10 , wherein the flexible tab is substantially flush with one or more surfaces of the second insert and the pad extends past the at least one portion of the surface of the second insert when the second insert is in a quiescent position. 
     
     
         12 . The wireless panic button of  claim 11 , wherein the one or more surfaces of the second insert comprises a convex surface and a flat surface. 
     
     
         13 . The wireless panic button of  claim 8 , wherein the first insert is coupled to a lanyard. 
     
     
         14 . The wireless panic button of  claim 8 , wherein the first insert is coupled to a wrist band.
