Rods for use in smoking articles

Abstract

A sheet of homogenised tobacco material is provided, the sheet of homogenized tobacco material including at least 40% tobacco content on a dry weight basis, the sheet of homogenized tobacco material having an aerosol former content of greater than 5% on a dry weight basis, a non-tobacco fibre additive and an extrinsic binder, and the sheet of homogenized tobacco material being formed by a casting process.

A sheet of homogenised tobacco material, wherein the sheet of homogenized tobacco material comprises at least 40% tobacco content on a dry weight basis, wherein the sheet of homogenized tobacco material has an aerosol former content of greater than 5% on a dry weight basis, a non-tobacco fibre additive and an extrinsic binder, and wherein the sheet of homogenized tobacco material is formed by a casting process. 
     
     
         2 . The sheet according to  claim 1 , wherein the casting process comprises agglomerating particulate tobacco. 
     
     
         3 . The sheet according to  claim 1 , further comprising 1-5% non-tobacco fibres by weight on a dry weight basis. 
     
     
         4 . The sheet according to  claim 1 , wherein the sheet of homogenized tobacco material has sufficiently high tensile strength to survive being gathered to form a rod. 
     
     
         5 . The sheet according to  claim 1 , further comprising an extrinsic binder. 
     
     
         6 . The sheet according to  claim 5 , wherein the extrinsic binder is guar gum. 
     
     
         7 . The sheet according to  claim 1 , wherein the sheet of homogenized tobacco material has a tobacco content of at least 50% by weight on a dry weight basis. 
     
     
         8 . The sheet according to  claim 7 , wherein the sheet of homogenized tobacco material has a tobacco content of at least 70% by weight on a dry weight basis. 
     
     
         9 . The sheet according to  claim 1 , wherein the sheet of homogenized tobacco material has a thickness of at least 50 μm. 
     
     
         10 . The sheet according to  claim 1 , wherein the sheet of homogenized tobacco material has a grammage between 100 g/m 2  and 300 g/m 2 . 
     
     
         11 . The sheet according to  claim 1 , wherein the sheet of homogenized tobacco material has a width between 25 mm and 300 mm. 
     
     
         12 . The sheet according to  claim 1 , further comprising between 1% and 5% non-tobacco fibres by weight on a dry weight basis and having a grammage of between 100 g/m 2  and 300 g/m 2 , wherein the homogenised tobacco material comprises particulate tobacco.
