Selective sleeve for use with inflow control devices
Abstract
Apparatus and method for controlling flow back through a conduit. The apparatus includes a selective sleeve disposed within the conduit, a bottom sleeve coupled to the selective sleeve, the conduit comprising a check valve, and an inflow control device fluidically coupled to the conduit. A shearable element locks the bottom sleeve to the conduit. The check valve is covered by the selective sleeve when the apparatus is introduced into a wellbore. The selective sleeve shifts to close the check valve and open the inflow control device. The selective sleeve also shifts to close the check valve and the inflow control device.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . An apparatus for controlling flow back through a conduit, the apparatus comprising:
a selective sleeve disposed within the conduit, a bottom sleeve coupled to the selective sleeve, the conduit comprising a check valve; wherein a shearable element locks the bottom sleeve to the conduit, and an inflow control device fluidically connected to the conduit.
2 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the selective sleeve is configured to leave the check valve uncovered when the apparatus is introduced into a wellbore; wherein the inflow control device is closed to fluid flow when the check valve is uncovered.
3 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the selective sleeve is configured to leave the check valve uncovered when a packer is set in a wellbore; wherein the inflow control device is closed to fluid flow when the check valve is uncovered.
4 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the check valve allows flow into the conduit from a surrounding wellbore annulus but does not allow flow from the conduit into the surrounding wellbore annulus.
5 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the selective sleeve is configured to cover the check valve when the inflow control device is opened such that a fluid may flow into or out of the conduit through the inflow control device.
6 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the selective sleeve is configured to cover the check valve and the inflow control device to prevent fluid flow into or out of the conduit when in the closed configuration.
7 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the selective sleeve is configured to decouple from the bottom sleeve.
8 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the selective sleeve and the bottom sleeve are coupled with a collet, a shearable element, or a snap ring.
9 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein a spring or atmospheric chamber are configured to shift the bottom sleeve in the downhole direction.
10 . The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a second shearable element that locks the bottom sleeve to the conduit until the second shearable element is sheared.
11 . A method for controlling flow back through a conduit, the method comprises:
providing an apparatus comprising:
a selective sleeve disposed within the conduit,
a bottom sleeve coupled to the selective sleeve,
the conduit comprising a check valve; wherein a shearable element locks the bottom sleeve to the conduit, and
an inflow control device fluidically coupled to the conduit;
covering the check valve with the selective sleeve when the apparatus is introduced into a wellbore; shifting the selective sleeve to close the check valve and open the inflow control device; and shifting the selective sleeve to close the check valve and the inflow control device.
12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the check valve allows flow into the conduit from a surrounding wellbore annulus but does not allow flow from the conduit into the surrounding wellbore annulus.
13 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising setting a packer in a wellbore when the check valve is uncovered by the selective sleeve.
14 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising decoupling the selective sleeve and the bottom sleeve.
15 . A system for controlling flow back through a conduit, the system comprising:
an apparatus comprising:
a selective sleeve disposed within the conduit,
a bottom sleeve coupled to the selective sleeve,
the conduit comprising a check valve; wherein a shearable element locks the bottom sleeve to the conduit, and
an inflow control device fluidically coupled to the conduit; and
a packer.
16 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the selective sleeve is configured to leave the check valve uncovered when the apparatus is introduced into a wellbore; wherein the inflow control device is closed to fluid flow when the check valve is uncovered.
17 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the selective sleeve is configured to leave the check valve uncovered when the packer is set in a wellbore; wherein the inflow control device is closed to fluid flow when the check valve is uncovered.
18 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the check valve allows flow into the conduit from a surrounding wellbore annulus but does not allow flow from the conduit into the surrounding wellbore annulus.
19 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the selective sleeve is configured to cover the check valve when the inflow control device is opened such that a fluid may flow into or out of the conduit through the inflow control device.
20 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the selective sleeve is configured to cover the check valve and the inflow control device to prevent fluid flow into or out of the conduit.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
