Containers, blanks, and methods for dispensing web material

Abstract

Container includes a base portion having a bottom panel defining a compartment. A front base panel extends upwardly from the bottom panel. A back panel extends from the bottom panel. First and second base side tabs extend between the bottom panel, front base panel, and back panel to define opposing sides. A lid portion is moveable between open and dispensing positions. The lid portion includes a top panel hindgedly-coupled to the back panel, and a front lid panel extending from the top panel having a front lid panel pressure edge. The front lid panel in the dispensing position extends within the compartment along the front base panel to pinch a web material from the compartment between the front lid panel pressure edge and the bottom panel. The web material is dispensed between the front lid panel and the front base panel when the lid is in the dispensing position.

1 . A package adapted for storage and dispensing of web material from a roll, the package comprising:
 a container including (1) a base portion defining a compartment, the base portion having a bottom panel defining a bottom of the compartment, a front base panel extending upwardly from the bottom panel to define a front of the compartment, a back panel extending from the bottom panel to define a back of the compartment, and first and second base side tabs extending between the bottom panel, the front base panel, and the back panel at opposing sides thereof to define opposing sides of the compartment;   (2) a lid portion extending from the back panel, the lid portion moveable between an open position for access to the compartment and a closed position blocking access to the compartment; and (3) a dowel arranged in the compartment that extends from the first base side tab to the second base side tab; and   a roll of web material arranged in the compartment of the container, the roll of web material being wound around a central axis that extends through the first base side tab and the second base side tab, wherein the roll of web material is positioned in an overhand orientation with the web material extending over a top of the roll toward the front base panel and is routed under the dowel before extending over a top of the front base panel so that the dowel can apply a shear force to the web material during dispensing and reduce the tendency of the web material to curl when a portion of the web material is removed from the roll of web material.   
     
     
         2 . The package of  claim 1 , wherein the a cutter is disposed on the top of the front base panel to enable removal of the portion of the web material from the roll of web material. 
     
     
         3 . The package of  claim 1 , wherein the dowel is arranged nearer to a bottom side of the front base panel than to the top of the front base panel. 
     
     
         4 . The package of  claim 3 , wherein the dowel is arranged nearer to the front base panel than to the back panel. 
     
     
         5 . The package of  claim 1 , wherein the dowel has a round cross section. 
     
     
         6 . The package of  claim 1 , wherein the roll of web material includes a paper-based web material. 
     
     
         7 . The package of  claim 6 , wherein the paper-based web material is parchment paper. 
     
     
         8 . A container for storing and dispensing a roll of web material, the container comprising
 a base portion defining a compartment, the base portion having a bottom panel defining a bottom of the compartment, a front base panel extending upwardly from the bottom panel to define a front of the compartment, a back panel extending from the bottom panel to define a back of the compartment, and first and second base side tabs extending between the bottom panel, the front base panel, and the back panel at opposing sides thereof to define opposing sides of the compartment;   a lid portion extending from the back panel, the lid portion moveable between an open position for access to the compartment and a closed position blocking access to the compartment; and   a dowel arranged in the compartment that extends from the first base side tab to the second base side tab.   
     
     
         9 . The package of  claim 8 , wherein the a cutter is disposed on a free edge running along a top of the front base panel to enable removal of the portion of the web material from the roll of web material. 
     
     
         10 . The package of  claim 8 , wherein the dowel is arranged nearer to a bottom side of the front base panel than to a free edge along a top of the front base panel. 
     
     
         11 . The package of  claim 10 , wherein the dowel is arranged nearer to the front base panel than to the back panel. 
     
     
         12 . The package of  claim 8 , wherein the dowel has a round cross section and forms a cylinder. 
     
     
         13 . A method of preparing, dispensing, and using a web material from a roll, the method comprising
 placing a roll of web material in a compartment defined by the base portion of a container in an overhand orientation with the web material extending over a top of the roll toward a front of the container,   routing a free end of the roll of web material under a dowel arranged in the compartment and then over a top of a front base panel of the container, and   dispensing a portion of the roll of web material by pulling the portion of the roll of web material out of the compartment so that the dowel can apply a shear force to the web material during dispensing and reduce the tendency of the web material to curl when a portion of the web material is removed from the roll of web material.   
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 13 , wherein the container includes a base portion defining the compartment, the base portion having a bottom panel defining a bottom of the compartment, the front base panel extending upwardly from the bottom panel to define a front of the compartment, a back panel extending from the bottom panel to define a back of the compartment, and first and second base side tabs extending between the bottom panel, the front base panel, and the back panel at opposing sides thereof to define opposing sides of the compartment. 
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 14 , wherein a cutter is disposed on a free edge running along a top of the front base panel to enable removal of the portion of the web material from the roll of web material. 
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 14 , wherein the dowel is arranged nearer to a bottom side of the front base panel than to a free edge along a top of the front base panel. 
     
     
         17 . The package of  claim 16 , wherein the dowel is arranged nearer to the front base panel than to the back panel. 
     
     
         18 . The package of  claim 13 , wherein the dowel has a round cross section and forms a cylinder. 
     
     
         19 . The method of  claim 13 , wherein the roll of web material includes a paper-based web material. 
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 19 , wherein the paper-based web material is parchment paper.
