Abstract

An aerosol-generating article is provided, including: a rod of aerosol-generating substrate having a length of at least 17 millimetres, the aerosol-generating substrate including a tobacco material having a bulk density of less than 290 milligrams per cubic centimetre; and a downstream section provided downstream of the rod of aerosol-generating substrate. An aerosol-generating system including the aerosol-generating article and an aerosol-generating device is also provided.

         16 . An aerosol-generating article, comprising:
 a rod of aerosol-generating substrate having a length of at least 17 millimetres, wherein the aerosol-generating substrate comprises a tobacco material having a bulk density of less than 290 milligrams per cubic centimetre; and   a downstream section provided downstream of the rod of aerosol-generating substrate.   
     
     
         17 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 16 , wherein the rod of aerosol-generating substrate has a length of at least 20 millimetres. 
     
     
         18 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 16 , wherein the tobacco material has a bulk density of less than 280 milligrams per cubic centimetre. 
     
     
         19 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 16 , wherein the tobacco material has a bulk density of at least 100 milligrams per cubic centimetre. 
     
     
         20 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 16 , wherein the rod of aerosol-generating substrate has a length of less than 40 millimetres. 
     
     
         21 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 16 , wherein the rod of aerosol-generating substrate has a length of less than 35 millimetres. 
     
     
         22 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 16 , wherein the aerosol-generating article has a total length of at least 60 millimetres. 
     
     
         23 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 16 , wherein a ratio of a length of the rod of aerosol-generating substrate to a total length of the aerosol-generating article is at least 0.2. 
     
     
         24 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 16 , wherein a ratio of a length of the rod of aerosol-generating substrate to a total length of the aerosol-generating article is 0.25. 
     
     
         25 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 16 , wherein a length of the downstream section is at least 40 millimetres. 
     
     
         26 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 16 , wherein a length of the downstream section is at least 45 millimetres. 
     
     
         27 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 16 , wherein the downstream section comprises a hollow tubular element abutting a downstream end of the rod of aerosol-generating substrate. 
     
     
         28 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 27 , further comprising a ventilation zone at a location along the hollow tubular element of the downstream section. 
     
     
         29 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 27 , wherein a ratio of a length of the hollow tubular element of the downstream section to a length of the rod of aerosol-generating substrate is at least 1.5. 
     
     
         30 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 16 , wherein the aerosol-generating article has a maximum external diameter less than or equal to 8 millimetres. 
     
     
         31 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 16 , further comprising an upstream element provided upstream of the rod of aerosol-generating substrate and abutting an upstream end of the rod of aerosol-generating substrate. 
     
     
         32 . The aerosol-generating article according to  claim 16 , wherein the tobacco material comprises a shredded tobacco material. 
     
     
         33 . An aerosol-generating system, comprising:
 an aerosol-generating article according to  claim 16 ; and   an aerosol-generating device comprising a heating chamber configured to receive the aerosol-generating article and at least a heating element provided at or about a periphery of the heating chamber.
