Abstract

Presented is a ring protector or a ring guard for protecting a ring worn on a finger. The ring protector includes a pair of annular members, and a base interconnecting the annular members. The base extends partially along the circumference of the annular members leaving an open slot at the opposing side of the base for insertion of the ring to be protected.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A ring protector ( 100 ) for protecting a ring ( 200 ) worn on a finger ( 302 ) of a user, comprising:
 a first annular member ( 102 ) comprising a first outer surface ( 102   a ), a first inner surface ( 102   b ), and a first pair of side surfaces ( 102   c , 102   d );   a second annular member ( 103 ) comprising a second outer surface ( 103   a ), a second inner surface ( 103   b ), and a second pair of side surfaces ( 103   c , 103   d ), wherein the second annular member ( 103 ) is spaced apart from the first annular member ( 102 ); and   a base ( 104 ) interconnecting the first annular member ( 102 ) and the second annular member ( 103 ), wherein the base ( 104 ) extends partially along the circumference of the first annular member ( 102 ) and the second annular member ( 103 ) leaving an open space ( 105 ) at the opposing side of the base ( 104 ) for insertion of the ring ( 200 ).   
     
     
         2 . The ring protector ( 100 ) of  claim 1 , wherein the base ( 104 ) is disposed on top of the first outer surface ( 102   a ) of the first annular member ( 102 ) and the second outer surface ( 103   a ) of the second annular member ( 103 ). 
     
     
         3 . The ring protector ( 100 ) of  claim 2 , wherein the base ( 104 ) is configured to extend between the distal edges ( 102   e ,  103   e ) of the first annular member ( 102 ) and the second annular member ( 103 ). 
     
     
         4 . The ring protector ( 100 ) of  claim 2 , wherein the base ( 104 ) is configured to extend beyond the distal edges ( 102   e , 103   e ) of the first annular member ( 102 ) and the second annular member ( 103 ). 
     
     
         5 . The ring protector ( 100 ) of  claim 1 , wherein the base ( 104 ) is disposed on top of the first outer surface ( 102   a ) of the first annular member ( 102 ) and the second outer surface ( 103   a ) of the second annular member ( 103 ) such as to remain flushed on the first annular member ( 102 ) and the second annular member ( 103 ). 
     
     
         6 . The ring protector ( 100 ) of  claim 1 , wherein the upper surface ( 104   a ) of the base ( 104 ) is centrally concavely curved. 
     
     
         7 . The ring protector ( 100 ) of  claim 1 , wherein the upper surface ( 104   a ) of the base ( 104 ) is uniformly flat. 
     
     
         8 . The ring protector ( 100 ) of  claim 1 , wherein the base ( 104 ) incorporates padding or cushioning. 
     
     
         9 . The ring protector ( 100 ) of  claim 1 , wherein the base ( 104 ) comprises a bottom surface ( 104   b ), a portion of which acts as a resting surface ( 106 ) for the bottom ( 202 ) of the ring ( 200 ) when inserted inside the ring protector ( 100 ). 
     
     
         10 . The ring protector ( 100 ) of  claim 1 , wherein the resting surface ( 106 ) extends between the proximal edges ( 102   f , 103   f ) of the first annular member ( 102 ) and the second annular member ( 103 ) receives the ring ( 200 ). 
     
     
         11 . The ring protector ( 100 ) of  claim 1 , wherein the ring ( 200 ) is a smart ring. 
     
     
         12 . The ring protector ( 100 ) of  claim 1 , wherein the ring ( 200 ) is a conventional jewelry ring. 
     
     
         13 . The ring protector ( 100 ) of  claim 1 , wherein the first annular member ( 102 ) and the second annular member ( 103 ) of the ring guard ( 100 ) are designed to accommodate the ring ( 200 ) and yet encircle the finger of the user. 
     
     
         14 . The ring protector ( 100 ) of  claim 1 , wherein the base ( 104 ) and the proximal edges ( 102   f , 103   f ) of the first annular member ( 102 ) and the second annular member ( 103 ) protects the ring ( 200 ) from bottom and sides when inserted inside the ring protector ( 100 ) and worn on the finger. 
     
     
         15 . The ring protector ( 100 ) of  claim 1 , wherein the base ( 104 ) functions to distribute the load from heavy objects on the ring protector ( 100 ) evenly without damaging the ring ( 200 ) housed within the ring protector ( 100 ). 
     
     
         16 . The ring protector ( 100 ) of  claim 1 , wherein the base ( 104 ) comprises a first end ( 104   c ) and a second end ( 104   d ), wherein the first end ( 104   c ) and the second end ( 104   d ) are at least curved or U-shaped. 
     
     
         17 . The ring protector ( 100 ) of  claim 16 , wherein the first end ( 104   c ) and the second end ( 104   d ) of the base ( 104 ) are straight such that the base ( 104 ) is substantially rectangular in shape 
     
     
         18 . The ring protector ( 100 ) of  claim 1 , wherein the ring protector ( 200 ) is made of a plastic, silicon, or an elastomeric material.
