Firearm with modular finger interface

Abstract

The application pertains to a modular firearm frame. The frame has a length which is straight at a top and wherein the straight length then extends downward to form a grip. The frame comprises a recessed socket face located at a position in the straight length of the frame. A removable finger interface is configured to fit within and attach to the recessed socket face. Advantageously, the removable finger interface may one or more accessories so that accessories may be readily added, removed, or changed without any permanent alteration of the frame.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A modular firearm frame comprising:
 a frame having a length which is straight at a top and wherein the straight length then extends downward to form a grip;   wherein the frame comprises a recessed socket face located at a position in the straight length of the frame;   a removable finger interface configured to fit within and attach to the recessed socket face.   
     
     
         2 . The modular firearm frame of  claim 1  wherein the recessed socket comprises a dovetail perimeter configured to locate and secure the removable finger interface. 
     
     
         3 . The modular firearm frame of  claim 2  wherein the recessed socket comprises a hole configured to accept a fastener to secure the removable finger interface. 
     
     
         4 . The modular firearm frame of  claim 2  wherein the fastener is a screw. 
     
     
         5 . The modular firearm frame of  claim 1  wherein the recessed socket comprises a counterbore keyway configured to locate and secure the removable finger interface. 
     
     
         6 . The modular firearm frame of  claim 1  wherein the removable finger interface further comprises an accessory. 
     
     
         7 . The modular firearm frame of  claim 6  wherein the removable finger interface and the accessory are integral to each other. 
     
     
         8 . The modular firearm frame of  claim 6  wherein the accessory comprises a storage compartment for a tool. 
     
     
         9 . The modular firearm frame of  claim 6  wherein the accessory comprises a support hand thumb rest. 
     
     
         10 . The modular firearm frame of  claim 6  wherein the accessory comprises an optics mount, a flashlight, a laser module, a vertical foregrip for a rifle, or an identifying marker. 
     
     
         11 . The modular firearm frame of  claim 1  wherein the frame comprises a second recessed socket face at least partially above the trigger guard on the opposite side of the frame as the recessed socket face of  claim 1  and wherein a second removable finger interface is configured to fit within and attach to the second recessed socket face. 
     
     
         12 . A firearm comprising the modular firearm frame of  claim 1 . 
     
     
         13 . A firearm comprising:
 a frame;   a barrel mounted on the frame;   a slide on the frame;   a trigger shoe assembly;   a hammer pivotally coupled to an upper portion of the frame;   a mainspring assembly coupled to a lower portion of the frame;   a hammer strut extending between the hammer and the mainspring assembly; and   a slide stop removably attached to each side of the frame;   wherein the frame has a length which is straight at a top and wherein the straight length then extends downward to form a grip;   wherein the frame comprises a recessed socket face located at a position in the straight length of the frame and a removable finger interface is configured to fit within and attach to the recessed socket face.   
     
     
         14 . The firearm of  claim 13  wherein the recessed socket comprises a dovetail perimeter configured to locate and secure the removable finger interface. 
     
     
         15 . The firearm of  claim 13  wherein the recessed socket comprises a hole configured to accept a fastener to secure the removable finger interface. 
     
     
         16 . The firearm of  claim 15  wherein the fastener is a screw. 
     
     
         17 . The firearm of  claim 13  wherein the recessed socket comprises a counterbore keyway configured to locate and secure the removable finger interface. 
     
     
         18 . The firearm of  claim 13  wherein the removable finger interface further comprises an accessory. 
     
     
         19 . The modular firearm frame of  claim 18  wherein the removable finger interface and the accessory are integral to each other. 
     
     
         20 . The modular firearm frame of  claim 18  wherein the accessory comprises a support hand thumb rest, an optics mount, a storage compartment for a tool, an optics mount, a flashlight, a laser module, a vertical foregrip for a rifle, or an identifying marker.
