Hair styling appliance and method of using same

Abstract

A hair styling appliance kit can include a handle section and multiple styling attachments that can be releasably attached to the handle section. The handle section can include a heating element and a blowing device so that the handle can expel hot air into a styling attachment when attached to the handle section. Each styling attachment can be releasably attached to the handle section. The styling attachments can include an oval smoothing brush, a round volume brush, and a curling wand. A user can select the desired styling attachment and position it on the mounting end of the handle section. The handle section can include a locking mechanism to selectively lock the styling attachment to the handle section during use. The amount of heat provided by the heating element is adjustable so that the temperature of the blown air is adjustable.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A hair styling apparatus comprising:
 (a) a handle section having an interior and an open end;   (b) a styling attachment releasably attached to the handle section proximate the open end of the handle section, the styling attachment having an interior in communication with the interior of the handle section;   (c) a heating element contained within the handle section adapted to heat air within the handle section to a plurality of selectable temperatures; and   (d) a fan contained within the handle section adapted to blow air within the handle section into the interior of the styling attachment.   
     
     
         2 . The hair styling apparatus according to  claim 1 , wherein the styling attachment comprises one of the group consisting of an oval smoothing brush, a round volume brush, and a curling wand. 
     
     
         3 . The hair styling apparatus according to  claim 1 , wherein the styling attachment comprises a brush assembly having openings formed therein, whereby air blown into the styling attachment is expelled through the openings. 
     
     
         4 . The hair styling apparatus according to  claim 3 , wherein the handle section includes a cool switch operatively connected to the heating element wherein positioning the cool switch at a first position turns the heating element off whereby the air blown into the styling attachment and expelled through the openings is unheated. 
     
     
         5 . The hair styling apparatus according to  claim 3 , wherein the handle section includes a motor operatively connected to the fan, and an airflow switch operatively connected to the fan to control the output of the motor whereby the air blown into the styling attachment and expelled through the openings travels at a first speed when the airflow switch is in a first position and travels at a second speed when the airflow switch is in a second position. 
     
     
         6 . The hair styling apparatus according to  claim 1 , wherein the plurality of selectable temperatures comprises a first temperature and a second temperature higher than the first temperature, and further wherein the handle section includes a temperature control dial operatively connected to the heating element to control the heating element, whereby movement of the temperature control dial to a first position selects the first temperature and movement of the temperature control dial to a second position selects the second temperature. 
     
     
         7 . The hair styling apparatus according to  claim 1 , wherein the plurality of selectable temperatures comprises a first temperature in the range of 100 to 135 degrees Fahrenheit, a second temperature in the range of 140 to 230 degrees Fahrenheit, and a third temperature in the range of 240 to 280 degrees Fahrenheit. 
     
     
         8 . The hair styling apparatus according to  claim 1 , wherein the plurality of selectable temperatures comprises a first temperature of approximately 131 degrees Fahrenheit, a second temperature of approximately 203 degrees Fahrenheit, and a third temperature of approximately 275 degrees Fahrenheit. 
     
     
         9 . The hair styling apparatus according to  claim 8 , wherein the handle section includes a cylindrical temperature control dial operatively connected to the heating element to control the heating element, whereby rotating the temperature control dial to a first position selects the first temperature, rotating the temperature control dial to a second position selects the second temperature, and rotating the temperature control dial to a third position selects the third temperature. 
     
     
         10 . A hair styling appliance kit comprising:
 (a) a handle section having an interior and an open end;   (b) a plurality of styling attachments adapted to be releasably attached to the handle section proximate the open end of the handle section, each styling attachment having an interior in communication with the interior of the handle section when releasably attached to the handle section;   (c) a heating element contained within the handle section adapted to heat air within the handle section to a plurality of selectable temperatures; and   (d) a motorized fan contained within the handle section adapted to blow air within the handle section into the interior of each of the styling attachments when attached to the handle section.   
     
     
         11 . The hair styling appliance kit according to  claim 10 , wherein the plurality of styling attachments comprises one or more selected from the group consisting of an oval smoothing brush, a round volume brush, and a curling wand. 
     
     
         12 . The hair styling appliance kit according to  claim 10 , wherein the plurality of styling attachments comprises a first styling attachment comprising an oval smoothing brush, a second styling attachment comprising a round volume brush, and a third styling attachment comprising a curling wand. 
     
     
         13 . The hair styling appliance kit according to  claim 12 , wherein the first styling attachment comprises a brush assembly having openings formed therein, whereby air blown into the first styling attachment is expelled through the openings. 
     
     
         14 . The hair styling appliance kit according to  claim 10 , wherein the handle section includes a cool switch operatively connected to the heating element wherein positioning the cool switch at a first position turns the heating element off whereby air within the handle section is unheated. 
     
     
         15 . The hair styling appliance kit according to  claim 10 , wherein the plurality of selectable temperatures comprises a first temperature and a second temperature higher than the first temperature, and further wherein the handle section includes a temperature control dial operatively connected to the heating element to control the heating element, whereby movement of the temperature control dial to a first position selects the first temperature and movement of the temperature control dial to a second position selects the second temperature. 
     
     
         16 . The hair styling appliance kit according to  claim 10 , wherein the plurality of selectable temperatures comprises a first temperature in the range of 100 to 135 degrees Fahrenheit, a second temperature in the range of 140 to 230 degrees Fahrenheit, and a third temperature in the range of 240 to 280 degrees Fahrenheit. 
     
     
         17 . The hair styling appliance kit according to  claim 10 , wherein the plurality of selectable temperatures comprises a first temperature of approximately 131 degrees Fahrenheit, a second temperature of approximately 203 degrees Fahrenheit, and a third temperature of approximately 275 degrees Fahrenheit. 
     
     
         18 . The hair styling appliance kit according to  claim 10 , wherein the handle section includes a cylindrical temperature control dial operatively connected to the heating element to control the heating element, whereby rotating the temperature control dial to a first position selects the first temperature, rotating the temperature control dial to a second position selects the second temperature, and rotating the temperature control dial to a third position selects the third temperature. 
     
     
         19 . A method of styling hair comprising:
 (a) providing a hair styling kit comprising:
 (i) a handle section having an interior and an open end, 
 (ii) a plurality of styling attachments adapted to be releasably attached to the handle section proximate the open end of the handle section, each styling attachment having an interior in communication with the interior of the handle section when releasably attached to the handle section, 
 (iii) a heating element contained within the handle section adapted to heat air within the handle section to a plurality of selectable temperatures; and 
 (iv) a fan contained within the handle section adapted to blow air within the handle section into the interior of each of the styling attachments when attached to the handle section; and 
   (b) attaching one of the styling attachments to the handle section, and using said styling attachment to style hair.   
     
     
         20 . The method according to  claim 19 , wherein the plurality of styling attachments comprises a first styling attachment comprising an oval smoothing brush, a second styling attachment comprising a round volume brush, and a third styling attachment comprising a curling wand.
