Personal mobility vehicles with adjustable wheel positions
Abstract
An adjustable wheel mobility vehicle can have a support structure for supporting a rider, a modular conveying feature with a wheel, and an attachment that physically and tightly secures the modular conveying feature to the support structure in at least two different positions. A tool-free mechanism can allow a user to free the modular conveying feature from the support structure for movement to another position. A system for adjusting a skateboard wheel position can include a wheel support structure having multiple wheel attachment positions, and a wheel assembly comprising a skateboard wheel and a base. The wheel can swivel with respect to the base and the base can join to the wheel support structure. The base and wheel support structure can tightly join to prevent rotation of the base with respect to the wheel support structure and that tightly retain the base in a first attachment position. A release feature can allow a user to easily loosen the base and reposition it in a second attachment position.

2 . A casterboard comprising:
a body comprising an upper surface configured to support a user; a first caster wheel comprising a wheel and a base; a second caster wheel; an access region recessed inside the body, the access region having a first lateral width; a track recessed inside the body and that intersects the access region, the track comprising a first sidewall and a second sidewall, the first and second sidewalls spaced apart by a second lateral width, the second lateral width less than the first lateral width; the casterboard configured such that the base of the first caster wheel is:
vertically receivable into the access region and slidable from the access region into the track; and
slidable from the track into the access region and vertically removable from the access region.
3 . The casterboard of claim 2 , further comprising a wheel lock configured to secure the first caster wheel in the track.
4 . The casterboard of claim 3 , wherein the first and second sidewalls each comprise a plurality of openings configured to receive the wheel lock.
4 . The casterboard of claim 4 , wherein the body further comprises a plurality of lateral ribs, the lateral ribs positioned between the plurality of openings.
6 . The casterboard of claim 2 , wherein the casterboard is further configured such that:
when the base is received in the access region, the base is rotatable relative to the body; and when the base is received in the track, the base is not rotatable relative to the body.
7 . The casterboard of claim 2 , wherein the access region is circular.
8 . The casterboard of claim 2 , wherein the body further comprises a front section, a rear section, and a middle section with a neck, the front and rear sections configured to twist relative to each other about the neck.
9 . The casterboard of claim 8 , wherein the middle section further comprises the access region.
10 . A casterboard comprising:
a body comprising an upper surface configured to support a user; a front caster wheel; a rear caster wheel; an elongate groove that extends upward into the body, the elongate groove comprising a first longitudinal rail and a second longitudinal rail, the first and second longitudinal rails inside the body; and a wheel lock; wherein at least one of the front caster wheel and the rear caster wheel comprises a movable wheel that is configured to slide, inside the elongate groove and relative to the body, from a first position to a second position; and wherein the wheel lock is configured to secure the movable wheel in the first and the second positions.
11 . The casterboard of claim 10 , wherein the first and second rails each comprise a plurality of openings configured to receive the wheel lock.
12 . The casterboard of claim 11 , wherein the body further comprises a plurality of lateral ribs, the lateral ribs positioned between the plurality of openings.
13 . The casterboard of claim 10 , wherein the front and rear caster wheels are along a longitudinal axis of the casterboard.
14 . The casterboard of claim 10 , wherein the front caster wheel is the movable wheel and the rear caster wheel is fixed in longitudinal position relative to the body.
15 . The casterboard of claim 10 , wherein the movable wheel comprises a base that is received inside the elongate groove that extends upward into the body.
16 . A casterboard comprising:
a body comprising a top configured to support a user and a bottom comprising a plurality of lateral ribs; a front caster wheel; a rear caster wheel; an elongate groove between the top and the bottom of the body; an access region between the top and the bottom of the body; and a wheel lock; wherein at least one of the front caster wheel and the rear caster wheel comprises a movable wheel that is configured to slide inside the elongate groove and relative to the body; and wherein the wheel lock is configured to selectively secure the movable wheel in a plurality of positions in the elongate groove.
17 . The casterboard of claim 16 , wherein the elongate groove comprises first and second rails that each comprise a plurality of openings configured to receive the wheel lock.
18 . The casterboard of claim 17 , wherein the body further comprises a plurality of lateral ribs, the lateral ribs positioned between the plurality of openings.
19 . The casterboard of claim 16 , wherein the front and rear caster wheels are along a longitudinal axis of the casterboard.
20 . The casterboard of claim 16 , wherein the front caster wheel is the movable wheel and the rear caster wheel is fixed in longitudinal position relative to the body.
