Layered Yarn and Weighted Blanket for Deep Pressure Therapy

Abstract

A weighted blanket includes a length of layered yarn arranged to form a weighted material having loops in an interlooped pattern, the weighted material having a top side and a bottom side. The length of layered yarn includes an outer tube having a length and defining a conduit extending longitudinally therethrough; and textile materials positioned within the outer tube, each textile material including comprises a spun fiber arranged in a substantially longitudinal direction uninterrupted within the conduit. The interlooped pattern includes openings between the loops, the openings configured to allow airflow between the top side and the bottom side for providing breathability.

I claim: 
     
         1 . A weighted blanket comprising:
 a length of layered yarn arranged to form a weighted material having loops in an interlooped pattern, the weighted material having a top side and a bottom side, wherein the length of layered yarn comprises:   an outer tube having a length and defining a conduit extending longitudinally therethrough; and   a plurality of textile materials positioned within the outer tube, each textile material of the plurality of textile materials comprises a spun fiber arranged in a substantially longitudinal direction uninterrupted within the conduit;   wherein the interlooped pattern includes openings between the loops, the openings configured to allow airflow between the top side and the bottom side for providing breathability.   
     
     
         2 . The weighted blanket of  claim 1  wherein the spun fiber has a length substantially the same as the length of the outer tube. 
     
     
         3 . The weighted blanket of  claim 1  wherein the outer tube has a first end and a second end, and the spun fiber extends between the first end and the second end. 
     
     
         4 . The weighted blanket of  claim 1  wherein the plurality of textile materials comprise a plurality of inner sheets. 
     
     
         5 . The weighted blanket of  claim 1  wherein the plurality of textile materials comprise cotton. 
     
     
         6 . The weighted blanket of  claim 5  wherein the outer tube comprises cotton. 
     
     
         7 . The weighted blanket of  claim 1  wherein the outer tube is formed of a sheet of fabric. 
     
     
         8 . The weighted blanket of  claim 7  wherein the outer tube further includes a seam extending along the length of the outer tube where the sheet of fabric has been fastened to itself. 
     
     
         9 . The weighted blanket of  claim 1  wherein the conduit has a volume and the plurality of textile materials takes up between about 75-99% of the volume of the conduit. 
     
     
         10 . The weighted blanket of  claim 1  wherein the interlooped pattern includes knots at the cross-sections of the loops. 
     
     
         11 . The weighted blanket of  claim 1  wherein the interlooped pattern consists of a single layer of interlooped yarn. 
     
     
         12 . The weighted blanket of  claim 1  wherein the weighted material has a weight between 5 and 45 pounds without any added weights. 
     
     
         13 . The weighted blanket of  claim 1  wherein the weighted material excludes added weights. 
     
     
         14 . The weighted blanket of  claim 1  wherein the length of layered yarn has a substantially homogenous weight and density along the length of the outer tube. 
     
     
         15 . A weighted blanket comprising:
 a length of layered yarn arranged to form a weighted material having loops in an interlooped pattern, the weighted material having a top side and a bottom side, wherein the length of layered yarn comprising:   an outer tube having a length and defining a conduit extending longitudinally therethrough; and   a fiber material comprising a plurality of spun fibers arranged within the conduit, each spun fiber of the plurality of spun fibers arranged in a substantially longitudinal direction uninterrupted within the conduit;   wherein the interlooped pattern is a single layer of interlooped yarn including knots at the cross-sections of the loops and openings between the loops, the openings configured to allow airflow between the top side and the bottom side for providing breathability.   
     
     
         16 . The weighted blanket of  claim 15  wherein each spun fiber of the plurality of spun fibers has a length substantially the same as the length of the outer tube. 
     
     
         17 . The weighted blanket of  claim 15  wherein the outer tube has a first end and a second end, and each spun fiber of the plurality of spun fibers extends between the first end and the second end. 
     
     
         18 . The weighted blanket of  claim 15  wherein the fiber material and the outer tube are comprised of cotton. 
     
     
         19 . The weighted blanket of  claim 15  wherein the interlooped pattern consists of a single layer of interlooped yarn. 
     
     
         20 . The weighted blanket of  claim 15  wherein the length of layered yarn has a substantially homogenous weight and density along the length of the outer tube. 
     
     
         21 . A weighted blanket comprising:
 a length of layered yarn arranged to form a weighted material having loops in an interlooped pattern, the weighted material having a top side and a bottom side, wherein the length of layered yarn comprising:   an outer tube having a length and defining a conduit extending longitudinally therethrough; and   a plurality of inner materials positioned within the outer tube, each inner material of the plurality of inner materials comprises a spun fiber arranged in a substantially longitudinal direction uninterrupted within the conduit;   wherein the interlooped pattern is a single layer of interlooped yarn including knots at the cross-sections of the loops and openings between the loops, the openings configured to allow airflow between the top side and the bottom side for providing breathability.   
     
     
         22 . The weighted blanket of  claim 21  wherein the spun fiber has a length substantially the same as the length of the outer tube. 
     
     
         23 . The weighted blanket of  claim 21  wherein the outer tube has a first end and a second end, and the spun fiber extends between the first end and the second end. 
     
     
         24 . The weighted blanket of  claim 21  wherein the plurality of inner materials and the outer tube are comprised of cotton. 
     
     
         25 . The weighted blanket of  claim 21  wherein the interlooped pattern consists of a single layer of interlooped yarn. 
     
     
         26 . The weighted blanket of  claim 21  wherein the length of layered yarn has a substantially homogenous weight and density along the length of the outer tube. 
     
     
         27 . A weighted blanket comprising:
 a length of layered yarn arranged to form a weighted material having loops in an interlooped pattern, the weighted material having a top side and a bottom side, the interlooped pattern includes knots at cross-sections of the loops, wherein the length of layered yarn comprises:   an outer tube extending from a first end to a second end, the outer tube defining a conduit extending longitudinally therethrough from the first end to the second end; and a plurality of lengths of material arranged within the conduit, each length of material of the plurality of lengths of material comprising a spun fiber, wherein the spun fiber is arranged in a substantially longitudinal direction uninterrupted between the first end and the second end;   wherein the interlooped pattern includes openings where the length of layered yarn crosses the other lengths of layered yarn, the openings configured to allow airflow between the top side and the bottom side thereby providing breathability;   
       wherein the length of layered yarn has a substantially homogenous weight and density along the length of the outer tube. 
     
     
         28 . The weighted blanket of  claim 27  wherein the spun fiber extends substantially longitudinally from the first end to the second end. 
     
     
         29 . The weighted blanket of  claim 27  wherein the spun fiber has a length substantially the same as the length of the outer tube. 
     
     
         30 . The weighted blanket of  claim 27  wherein the fiber material and the outer tube are comprised of cotton.
