Abstract

A pool skimmer debris guard device for inhibiting debris from entering a pool skimmer includes a debris guard that is foraminous to pass water through the debris guard. The debris guard has a bottom portion that is oriented at an angle with a top portion. The debris guard is positionable against an intake of a pool skimmer to inhibit debris from entering the pool skimmer. The bottom portion is submerged when the debris guard is positioned to cover the intake to facilitate water to continuously flow into the intake. An elastomeric band is attached to the debris guard and a hook is attached to the elastomeric band. The hook is engageable to a basket located in the pool skimmer for retaining the debris guard on the intake of the pool skimmer.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
I claim:

1 . A pool skimmer debris guard device being removably attachable to an intake of a pool skimmer for inhibiting debris from entering the pool skimmer, said device comprising:
a debris guard being foraminous wherein said debris guard is configured to pass water through said debris guard, said debris guard having a bottom portion being oriented at an angle with a top portion, said debris guard being positionable against a perimeter wall of a swimming pool having said top portion covering an intake of a pool skimmer wherein said debris guard is configured to inhibit debris from entering said pool skimmer, said bottom portion being submerged when said debris guard is positioned to cover said intake wherein said bottom portion is configured to facilitate water to continuously flow into said intake; an elastomeric band being attached to said debris guard thereby facilitating said elastomeric band to be extended into said intake of said pool skimmer; and a hook being attached to said elastomeric band, said hook being engageable to a basket located in said pool skimmer for retaining said debris guard on said perimeter wall of said swimming pool.

2 . The device according to claim 1 , wherein:
said debris guard has a border which has a plurality of vertical members each extending between and being perpendicularly oriented with each of a top member and a bottom member; each of said vertical members has a bend which defines a top portion of said vertical members forming an angle with a bottom portion of said vertical members; said top portion of each of said pair of vertical members intersects said top member; said bottom portion of each of said pair of vertical members intersects said bottom member; said bend in each of said vertical members is positioned closer to said bottom member than said top member; and said plurality of vertical members are evenly spaced apart from each other and are distributed along a full length of said top member and said bottom member.

3 . The device according to claim 2 , wherein said debris guard has a pair of panels each being positioned in a respective one of a pair of openings defined between said plurality of vertical members, each of said pair of panels having a perimeter edge being attached to a bounding edge of said respective opening, each of said pair of panels having a bend being aligned with said bend in each of said plurality of vertical members, each of said panels being foraminous.

4 . The device according to claim 2 , wherein said debris guard has an engagement loop curving away from a rearwardly facing surface of a middle one of said plurality of vertical members, said engagement loop being centrally positioned between said top member and said bend in said middle vertical member.

5 . The device according to claim 4 , wherein said elastomeric band has a first end and a second end, said elastomeric band extending through said engagement loop on said rearwardly facing surface of said middle vertical member, said elastomeric band having a head being coupled to said first end of said elastomeric band, said head having a diameter being greater than a diameter of said engagement loop thereby inhibiting said first end from being pulled through said engagement loop.

6 . The device according to claim 1 , wherein:
said elastomeric band has a first end and a second end; and said hook is disposed on said second end of said elastomeric band, said hook having a distal end, said hook being curved such that said distal end is directed toward said second end of said elastomeric band.

7 . A pool skimmer debris guard device being removably attachable to an intake of a pool skimmer for inhibiting debris from entering the pool skimmer, said device comprising:
a debris guard being foraminous wherein said debris guard is configured to pass water through said debris guard, said debris guard having a bottom portion being oriented at an angle with a top portion, said debris guard being positionable against a perimeter wall of a swimming pool having said top portion covering an intake of a pool skimmer wherein said debris guard is configured to inhibit debris from entering said pool skimmer, said bottom portion being submerged when said debris guard is positioned to cover said intake wherein said bottom portion is configured to facilitate water to continuously flow into said intake, said debris guard having a border which has a plurality of vertical members each extending between and being perpendicularly oriented with each of a top member and a bottom member, each of said vertical members having a bend which defines a top portion of said vertical members forming an angle with a bottom portion of said vertical members, said top portion of each of said pair of vertical members intersecting said top member, said bottom portion of each of said pair of vertical members intersecting said bottom member, said bend in each of said vertical members being positioned closer to said bottom member than said top member, said plurality of vertical members being evenly spaced apart from each other and being distributed along a full length of said top member and said bottom member, said debris guard having a pair of panels each being positioned in a respective one of a pair of openings defined between said plurality of vertical members, each of said pair of panels having a perimeter edge being attached to a bounding edge of said respective opening, each of said pair of panels having a bend being aligned with said bend in each of said plurality of vertical members, each of said panels being foraminous, said debris guard having an engagement loop curving away from a rearwardly facing surface of a middle one of said plurality of vertical members, said engagement loop being centrally positioned between said top member and said bend in said middle vertical member; an elastomeric band being attached to said debris guard thereby facilitating said elastomeric band to be extended into said intake of said pool skimmer, said elastomeric band having a first end and a second end, said elastomeric band extending through said engagement loop on said rearwardly facing surface of said middle vertical member, said elastomeric band having a head being coupled to said first end of said elastomeric band, said head having a diameter being greater than a diameter of said engagement loop thereby inhibiting said first end from being pulled through said engagement loop; and a hook being attached to said elastomeric band, said hook being engageable to a basket located in said pool skimmer for retaining said debris guard on said perimeter wall of said swimming pool, said hook being disposed on said second end of said elastomeric band, said hook having a distal end, said hook being curved such that said distal end is directed toward said second end of said elastomeric band.

8 . A method of inhibiting debris from entering a pool skimmer while facilitating constant flow of water into the pool skimmer, the steps of the method comprising:
extending an elastomeric band into an intake of a pool skimmer, said elastomeric band being coupled to a debris guard; attaching a hook being disposed on said elastomeric band to a basket positioned in said intake of said pool skimmer thereby retaining said debris guard against a perimeter wall of said pool, said debris guard having a top portion and a bottom portion forming an angle with respect to said top portion, said debris guard being foraminous; and orienting said debris guard such that said top portion of said debris guard covers said intake of said pool skimmer and said bottom portion of said debris guard is submerged, said bottom portion of said debris guard angling away from said perimeter wall of said swimming pool such that said bottom portion ensures constant water flow into said pool skimmer.
