Shower drain assemblies
Abstract
Shower drain assemblies and their components are disclosed. In some examples, a shower drain assembly may include a shower drain, a retaining ring, a sealing ring assembly, or a combination thereof. The retaining ring may fit inside the shower drain, and the sealing ring assembly may fit inside the shower drain and on top of the retaining ring. In some other examples, a shower drain assembly may include a shower drain, a gasket, a compression ring assembly, or a combination thereof. The gasket may fit inside the shower drain, and the compression ring assembly may fit inside the shower drain and on top of the gasket. The shower drain assemblies may allow for fluid pressure testing of shower drain and pipe assemblies. The shower drain assembly may allow for fluid pressure testing of areas not previously tested or a lack of a need for caulking, among other improvements.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A shower drain assembly, comprising:
a shower drain comprising:
an upper opening;
a lower opening;
a first recess; and
a second recess;
a seal configured to be at least partially disposed within the first recess; a retaining ring comprising a plurality of angled teeth, wherein the retaining ring is configured to be at least partially disposed within the second recess; and a cap assembly, the cap assembly configured to couple to the shower drain and comprising:
a third recess; and
an O-ring configured to be at least partially disposed within the third recess.
2 . The shower drain assembly of claim 1 , wherein the shower drain further comprises a chamfer disposed below the second recess.
3 . The shower drain assembly of claim 2 , wherein the chamfer comprises a tapered inside surface.
4 . The shower drain assembly of claim 2 , wherein the chamfer comprises a plurality of cross holes.
5 . The shower drain assembly of claim 1 , wherein the cap assembly comprises one or more tabs and a hex feature.
6 . The shower drain assembly of claim 1 , wherein the retaining ring is discontinuous.
7 . The shower drain assembly of claim 1 , wherein the seal further comprises a wiper feature, a first O-ring feature, and a second O-ring feature, and wherein the wiper feature is disposed between the first O-ring feature and the second O-ring feature.
8 . The shower drain assembly of claim 1 , wherein the second recess is disposed below the first recess.
9 . The shower drain assembly of claim 1 , wherein the retaining ring comprises a plurality of angled teeth.
10 . A shower drain assembly, comprising:
a shower drain comprising:
an upper opening;
a lower opening;
a first recess;
a second recess; and
inside threading;
a seal with a wiper feature, the seal configured to be at least partially disposed within the first recess and configured to seal the shower drain against a pipe; a retaining ring comprising a plurality of angled teeth, wherein the retaining ring is configured to be at least partially disposed within the second recess; and a cap assembly, the cap assembly comprising:
outside threading configured to couple to the inside threading of the shower drain;
a third recess; and
an O-ring configured to be at least partially disposed within the third recess and configured to seal the cap assembly against the shower drain.
11 . The shower drain assembly of claim 10 , wherein the shower drain further comprises a chamfer disposed below the second recess.
12 . The shower drain assembly of claim 11 , wherein the chamfer comprises a tapered inside surface.
13 . A shower drain assembly, comprising:
a shower drain comprising:
an upper opening;
a lower opening;
a first recess;
a second recess; and
inside threading;
a chamfer disposed below the second recess and at least partially defining the lower opening;
a seal at least partially disposed within the first recess; a retaining ring comprising a plurality of angled teeth, wherein the retaining ring is at least partially disposed within the second recess; and a cap assembly, the cap assembly comprising:
outside threading coupled to the inside threading of the shower drain;
a third recess; and
an O-ring at least partially disposed within the third recess.
14 . The shower drain of claim 13 , wherein:
the lower opening of the shower drain is configured to receive an end of a pipe; the O-ring is configured to fluidly seal the cap assembly against the shower drain above the end of the pipe; and the seal is configured to fluidly seal the shower drain against the pipe.
15 . The shower drain of claim 13 , wherein a depth of the first recess is less than a thickness of the seal.
16 . The shower drain of claim 13 , wherein the chamfer comprises a plurality of cross holes.
17 . The shower drain of claim 13 , wherein the shower drain further comprises a flange.
18 . The shower drain of claim 13 , further comprising a ledge between the inside threading and the first recess.
19 . The shower drain of claim 13 , further comprising a second ledge between the first recess and the second recess.
20 . The shower drain of claim 13 , wherein the chamfer comprises a tapered inside surface.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
