1 . The Shaw Slope Gauge board is used to determine the amount of slope on a putting green that a golfer is putting across from their ball to the hole. To determine the % of grade or slope the player lets the putter swing over the board. For every ⅜ ″ the putter swings is 1% grade when the top of the putter is held 36″ of the ground. Once you know the grade you then use the Simple Green Reading method to determine the break or how much the ball will move.
Simple Green Reading is the formula for the system. You take the % of grade number and use your putter shaft at ⅜″ to determine the break. The golfer takes the putter and holds it up lining the putter shaft with the hole then looks to other side to determine the amount of break. If the number is greater than ⅜″ then the golfer uses different measuring tools on the putter like grip or head at different measurements. The 4 notches at the bottom are for that purpose.
This system is not used to help the player stroke the putt, or help them with distance control. It is for green reading purposes.
