Adjustable novel drain assembly
Abstract
An adjustable drain assembly is provided that includes a recessed drain conduit with a portion having prong members, and a portion having a volcano-shaped drain opening extending to define a fluid flow path. The drain assembly includes a grate with perforations disposed on top of the drain conduit and a ball in between prong members. The ball is capable of being lifted off from the drain opening to allow the water to drain through the drain opening and rest on the opening to create an airtight seal when no water flows through the opening. The drain assembly includes lips and a recessed top portion. The drain assembly includes cut-out rings formed in proximity to the top peripherally around the drain conduit and on the recessed top portion. The cut-out rings allow the drain assembly to fit differently sized drain holes located on a floor or sump pit pump cover.

a recessed drain conduit ( 108 ) having an inner surface ( 108 a ), and an outer surface ( 108 b ), wherein the drain conduit ( 108 ) comprising a first portion comprising a plurality of prong members ( 109 a , 109 b ) configured on the inner surface ( 108 a ), and a second portion comprising a drain opening ( 110 ) extending along the length of the second portion to define a fluid flow path that allows water to drain through the drain assembly ( 100 ); a grate ( 106 ) with a plurality of perforations ( 106 a ) removably disposed above and/or in the drain conduit ( 108 ); a ball ( 107 ) retained within the first portion of the drain conduit ( 108 ) over the drain opening ( 110 ) in between the plurality of prong members ( 109 a , 109 b ), wherein the ball ( 107 ) can lift off from the drain opening ( 110 ) to allow the water to drain through the drain opening ( 110 ) and rest on the opening ( 110 ) to create an airtight seal when no water flows through the drain opening ( 110 ); a first lip ( 111 ) disposed at a top peripherally around the drain conduit ( 108 ) and extending above the drain conduit ( 108 ), wherein between the top peripherally around the drain conduit ( 108 ) and the first lip ( 111 ) is a first cut-out ring ( 105 ); a recessed top portion ( 102 ) comprising a second cut-out ring ( 103 ), and a third cut-out ring ( 104 ); a second lip ( 101 ) disposed at a top peripherally around the recessed top portion ( 102 ) and extending above the recessed top portion ( 102 ); and wherein the first cut-out ring ( 105 ), the second cut-out ring ( 103 ), and the third cut-out ring ( 104 ) allow the drain assembly ( 100 ) to be adjusted to fit differently sized drain holes located at least on a floor or sump pit pump cover.
2 . The drain assembly ( 100 ) of claim 1 , wherein the drain conduit ( 108 ) is cylindrical.
3 . The drain assembly ( 100 ) of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of prong members ( 109 a , 109 b ) comprises a first pair of opposed prong members, and a second pair of opposed prong members.
4 . The drain assembly ( 100 ) of claim 1 , wherein the drain opening ( 110 ) extending along the length of the second portion of the drain conduit ( 108 ) has a volcano shape.

The drain assembly ( 100 ) of claim 4 , wherein the volcano shaped drain opening ( 110 ) extending along the length of the second portion of the drain conduit ( 108 ) permits a higher rate of flow of water by directing and maintaining the flow of water toward the outer periphery of the drain assembly.
6 . The drain assembly ( 100 ) of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of perforations ( 106 a ) are in fluid communication with the fluid flow path of the drain conduit ( 108 ).
7 . The drain assembly ( 100 ) of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of prong members ( 109 a , 109 b ) extends towards the center of the drain conduit ( 108 ).
8 . The drain assembly ( 100 ) of claim 7 , wherein the plurality of prong members ( 109 a , 109 b ) configured around the ball ( 107 ) allows the ball ( 107 ) to move vertically up and down and prevent the ball ( 107 ) from moving sidewise.
9 . The drain assembly ( 100 ) of claim 1 , wherein the drain assembly ( 100 ) is configured to fit around a 4-inch diameter drain hole.
10 . The drain assembly ( 100 ) of claim 1 , wherein the drain assembly ( 100 ) is cut around the first cut-out ring ( 105 ) to fit a 1.5-inch diameter drain hole.
11 . The drain assembly ( 100 ) of claim 1 , wherein the drain assembly ( 100 ) is cut around the second cut-out ring ( 103 ) to fit a 3-inch diameter drain hole.
12 . The drain assembly ( 100 ) of claim 1 , wherein the drain assembly ( 100 ) is cut around the third cut-out ring ( 104 ) to fit a 2-inch diameter drain hole.
