Abstract

An aerosol-generating device (3) comprises an axially extending heating chamber (15), an axially extending storage chamber (17), and a positioning mechanism (81). The storage chamber (17) is provided in coaxial arrangement with the heating chamber (15). The aerosol-generating device (3) is configured to receive an aerosol-generating article (5) in a consumption position. In the consumption position, an aerosol-generating section (9) of the aerosol-generating article (5) is at least partially arranged in the heating chamber (15). The aerosol-generating device (3) is configured to receive the aerosol-generating article (5) in a storage position. In the storage position, the aerosol-generating section (9) of the aerosol-generating article (5) is at least partially arranged in the storage chamber (17). The positioning mechanism (81) is configured to move the aerosol-generating article (5) form the storage position into the consumption position. The positioning mechanism (81) is configured to move the aerosol-generating article (5) from the consumption position into the storage position.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . Aerosol-generating device comprising:
an axially extending heating chamber; an axially extending storage chamber provided in coaxial arrangement with the heating chamber; and a positioning mechanism; wherein the aerosol-generating device is configured to receive an aerosol-generating article in a consumption position in which an aerosol-generating section of the aerosol-generating article is at least partially arranged in the heating chamber; wherein the aerosol-generating device is configured to receive the aerosol-generating article in a storage position in which the aerosol-generating section of the aerosol-generating article is at least partially arranged in the storage chamber; wherein the heating chamber is configured to be heated via a flame by a heater; wherein the positioning mechanism is configured to move the aerosol-generating article from the storage position into the consumption position; and wherein the positioning mechanism is configured to move the aerosol-generating article from the consumption position into the storage position.

2 . Aerosol-generating device according to claim 1 , wherein the positioning mechanism comprises a stop configured to prevent the positioning mechanism from moving the aerosol-generating article beyond the storage position in a direction away from the consumption position.

3 . Aerosol-generating device according to claim 1 , wherein the positioning mechanism is configured to engage the aerosol-generating article along a direction parallel to an axial direction.

4 . Aerosol-generating device according to claim 1 , wherein the positioning mechanism comprises a spring element biasing the positioning mechanism towards moving the aerosol-generating article from the consumption position into the storage position.

5 . Aerosol-generating device according to claim 1 , wherein the positioning mechanism comprises a locking mechanism having a locked state and an unlocked state, wherein the locking mechanism is configured to prevent the positioning mechanism from moving the aerosol-generating article from the consumption position into the storage position in the locked state, and wherein the locking mechanism is configured to release the positioning mechanism for moving the aerosol-generating article from the consumption position into the storage position in the unlocked state.

6 . Aerosol-generating device according to claim 1 , wherein the positioning mechanism comprises a hook structure configured to be driven into the aerosol-generating article.

7 . Aerosol-generating device according to claim 1 , wherein the storage chamber is in thermal contact with the heating chamber.

8 . Aerosol-generating device according to claim 1 , wherein the storage chamber is configured to be heated only via heat transfer from the heating chamber.

9 . Aerosol-generating device according to claim 1 , wherein the positioning mechanism is configured to engage the aerosol-generating article at the same position for moving the aerosol-generating article from the storage position into the consumption position and for moving the aerosol-generating article from the consumption position into the storage position.

         10 . Aerosol-generating system, comprising:
the aerosol-generating device according to claim 1 ; and the aerosol-generating article comprising the aerosol-generating section.

11 . Method for generating aerosol, comprising:
generating aerosol by subjecting an aerosol-generating section of an aerosol-generating article to a heating temperature in a heating space of an axially extending heating chamber; engaging the aerosol-generating section of the aerosol-generating article with a positioning mechanism; axially moving the aerosol-generating article with the positioning mechanism such that the aerosol-generating section leaves the heating space and enters a storage space of a storage chamber extending coaxially with the heating chamber; and axially moving the aerosol-generating article with the positioning mechanism such that the aerosol-generating section leaves the storage space and enters the heating space, wherein the heating space is heated to the heating temperature by a flame.

12 . Method according to claim 11 , wherein a hook structure of the positioning mechanism is embedded in the aerosol-generating section of the aerosol-generating article to move the aerosol-generating article.

13 . Method according to claim 11 , wherein a spring element biases the positioning mechanism towards moving the aerosol-generating article such that the aerosol-generating section leaves the heating space and enters the storage space.

14 . Use of a hook structure to move an aerosol-generating article between different temperature zones within an axially extending aerosol-generating device.
