Abstract
A tile drain and method of installing a tile drain is provided. The tile drain includes a drain body and a drain cover. The drain body defines a top opening, top weep apertures, and bottom weep apertures. The top opening receives the drain cover and serves as the primary drain for the tile drain. The top weep apertures are positioned below a top layer, such as a tile layer, of the base so as to receive fluid positioned between the top layer and a top waterproofing layer of the base. The sub weep apertures are positioned below the top waterproofing layer of the base so as to receive fluid positioned between the top waterproofing layer and a bottom waterproofing layer of the base. The drain body is encapsulated within the base, but the drain cover is adjustable relative to, and removable from, the drain body.

1 . A method of installing a drain, the method comprising:
providing a drain body defining a drain opening and comprising a top wall and an outer wall, the top wall extending at least partially between the drain opening and the outer wall; embedding a drain body within a tile floor such that tiles of a tile layer extend over and overlay at least a portion of a top wall of the drain body; and engaging a drain cover with the drain body.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:
the step of engaging the drain cover with the drain body comprises engaging the drain cover with the drain body while the drain body is embedded within the tile floor.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:
the drain cover is vertically adjustable relative to a vertical position of said top wall.
4 . The method of claim 3 , further comprising:
vertically adjusting the drain body such that a top surface of the drain cover is generally aligned with a top surface of the tile layer.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:
the drain body further comprises first and second lips each extending from an inner wall of the drain body partially within the drain opening; and the method further comprising placing one or more shims between each said lip and the drain cover to adjust a vertical position of the drain cover relative to the tile layer.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:
the step of engaging the drain cover with the drain body places the drain cover adjacent to tiles of the tile layer.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:
the drain body defines an interior area which forms a fluid pathway toward a bottom opening.
8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
engaging a drain pipe with a bottom opening of the drain body.
9 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
sealing first and second ends of the drain body with first and second end caps, respectively.
10 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
cutting an end of the drain body down to a desired length.
11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:
the drain body is made up of polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:
the top wall defines a plurality of top weep apertures.
13 . A method of installing a drain, the method comprising:
providing a drain body defining a drain opening and comprising a top wall and an outer wall, the top wall extending at least partially between the drain opening and the outer wall; sealing first and second ends of the drain body with first and second end caps, respectively; embedding a drain body within a tile floor such that tiles of a tile layer extend over and overlay at least a portion of a top wall of the drain body; engaging a drain cover with the drain body while the drain body is embedded within the tile floor; and vertically adjusting the drain body such that a top surface of the drain cover is generally aligned with a top surface of the tile layer.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
