Non-Lethal Bursting Projectile Diversionary Device and Method of Use
Abstract
The disclosed non-lethal bursting projectile diversionary device is designed to be used as an offensive device by teachers and other users to deter, disorient, and potentially disarm a shooter or an aggressor. The device is non-lethal and contains a non-toxic composition adapted to plume into the air upon impact of the device with an aggressor or object. The device includes a housing that has a frangible outer cylindrical wall. An inner cavity extends from a proximal end of the housing to a distal end of the housing. The inner cavity is filled with a novel composition which includes dense fly ash, light fly ash, glass beads, and glitter. The device is launched toward an aggressor using an air propelled launcher, and the composition is expelled through a bursting of its spiral seams thereby creating a disorientating plume around the device and the aggressor which disorients and deters the aggressor.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedThe claimed invention is:
1 . A bursting projectile diversionary device comprising:
a housing having a frangible outer cylindrical wall defining an inner cavity extending from a proximal end of the housing to a distal end of the housing, said inner cavity comprising a composition having 30%-50% by weight dense fly ash, 30%-50% by weight light fly ash, and 10%-30% by weight glass beads; an ogival nose disposed at the distal end of the housing, said ogival nose adapted to withstand the forces applied upon a launch of the device out of a barrel of a launcher, said composition adapted to plume into the air of a surrounding area upon a release of the composition from said inner cavity upon an impact of the ogival nose with an object in the surrounding area.
2 . The bursting projectile diversionary device of claim 1 , said frangible outer cylindrical wall comprising a layered structure having a first layer and a second layer, wherein the second layer is disposed inside the first layer.
3 . The bursting projectile diversionary device of claim 2 , wherein the first layer is wounded in a first direction, wherein the second layer is wounded in a second direction opposite the first direction.
4 . The bursting projectile diversionary device of claim 3 , wherein said device comprises a total length in a range from 10 inches to 14 inches.
5 . The bursting projectile diversionary device of claim 3 , said composition further comprising 0.15%-4% by weight glitter.
6 . The bursting projectile diversionary device of claim 1 , said composition further comprising 0.15%-4% by weight glitter.
7 . The bursting projectile diversionary device of claim 1 , said composition further comprising 0.25% by weight glitter.
8 . The bursting projectile diversionary device of claim 1 , the frangible outer cylindrical wall comprising a first layer wound in a first direction, the first layer comprising a first frangible spiral seam, said frangible outer cylindrical wall comprising a second layer wound in a second direction opposite the first direction of the first layer, the second layer comprising a second frangible spiral seam, said composition adapted for expulsion through said first frangible spiral seam and said second frangible spiral seam upon the launch of the device from the barrel of a launcher.
9 . The bursting projectile diversionary device of claim 1 , wherein said ogival nose is constructed of a contusion-forming material.
10 . The bursting projectile diversionary device of claim 9 , wherein said contusion-forming material is selected from a group consisting of rubber and plastic.
11 . A bursting projectile diversionary device comprising:
a housing having a frangible outer cylindrical wall defining an inner cavity extending from a proximal end of the housing to a distal end of the housing; a composition disposed within said inner cavity, said composition comprising: 60%-70% by weight bed ash, 40%-50% by weight glass oxide, and 0.15-2% by weight glitter; an ogival nose disposed at the distal end of the housing, the ogival nose comprising a contusion-forming material adapted to withstand pressurized forces applied thereto upon a projection of the device from a barrel of an air-pressured launcher, said composition adapted to form a plume in the air of an area surrounding a target upon an impact of the ogival nose with an object in said area surrounding the target.
12 . The bursting projectile diversionary device of claim 11 , wherein the composition is non-toxic and non-inflammatory.
13 . The bursting projectile diversionary device of claim 11 , wherein the frangible outer cylindrical wall comprises a first layer wound in a first direction from the proximal end to the distal end, the first layer having a first frangible spiral seam, wherein the frangible outer cylindrical wall comprises a second layer wound in a second direction from the distal end to the proximal end and having a second frangible spiral seam, wherein upon a projection of the device by the launcher the propellent air drives the composition forwards to cause the composition to be expelled through said first frangible spiral seam and said second frangible spiral seam to form a plume around the device after ejection of the device from the launcher.
14 . A composition for a bursting projectile device comprising:
30%-50% by weight dense fly ash; 30%-50% by weight light fly ash; and 10%-30% by weight glass beads.
15 . The composition for a bursting projectile device of claim 14 , further comprising 2%-4% by weight glitter.
16 . The composition for a bursting projectile device of claim 14 , further comprising 0.15%-0.35% by weight glitter.
17 . The composition for a bursting projectile device of claim 14 , further comprising 0.25% by weight glitter.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
