Method for scoring a golf match

Abstract

The present invention provides an improved scoring format for match play golf. The present invention provides a method for scoring a golf match play game between two teams of one or two players or one or more groups having multiple teams of one or two players for a predetermined number of holes. The method includes assigning a point total N for each hole, playing a hole, keeping track of each players score and determining which of two teams has won the hole based on which player has the lower individual score for the hole, awarding or scoring three-quarters of N points to the winning team with the lowest score, one-quarter of N points to the losing team and one-half N points if the teams have an identical low score. The match is then continued, and each hole is played, and points awarded or scored for each hole for the predetermined number of holes until all of the holes have been played. The total number of points may then be added, and a winning team declared based on the team scoring the most total points, not necessarily based on whom won the most holes.

That which is claim is: 
     
         1 . A method for scoring a golf match play game between two teams of one or two players for a predetermined number of holes, the method comprising:
 assigning a total point total N for each hole;   playing a hole, keeping track of each players' score and determining which of two teams has won hole based on which player has lower individual score for the hole;   awarding three-quarters of N points to winning team with lowest score, one-quarter of N points to losing team and one-half N points if the teams have identical low score;   repeating playing each hole and awarding points for each hole for the predetermined number of holes until all predetermined number of holes have been played;   adding up total number of points accumulated on total predetermined number of holes; and,   declaring a winning team of the golf match based on the team scoring the most total points.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein N is 4, winning score on a hole is 3 points, losing score is 1 point and a tie is 2 points. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the predetermined number of holes is nine, total points to be awarded per team is 36 points, and the total points of the group is the number of teams in the group times 36. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the predetermined number of holes is eighteen, the total points to be awarded is 72 points, and the total points of the group is the number of teams in the group times 72. 
     
     
         5 . A method for scoring a golf match play game between one or more groups having multiple teams of one or two players for a predetermined number of holes, the method comprising:
 assigning a total point total N for each hole;   playing a hole, keeping track of each players' score and determining which of two teams of each group has won hole based on which player has lower individual score for the hole;   awarding three-quarters of N points to winning team with lowest score, one-quarter of N points to losing team and one-half N points if the teams have identical low score;   repeating playing each hole and awarding points for each hole for the predetermined number of holes until all predetermined number of holes have been played;   adding up total number of points accumulated by each team on total predetermined number of holes for each team of the group; and,   declaring a winning group based on the group scoring the most points by totaling together each of the team points of the group.   
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 5 , wherein N is 4, winning score on a hole is 3 points, losing score is 1 point and a tie is 2 points. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 6 , wherein the predetermined number of holes is nine, total points to be awarded per team is 36 points, and the total points of the group is the number of teams in the group times 36. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 6 , wherein the predetermined number of holes is eighteen, the total points to be awarded is 72 points, and the total points of the group is the number of teams in the group times 72. 
     
     
         9 . A method for scoring a golf match play game between two teams of one or two players for a predetermined number of holes, the method comprising:
 assigning a total point total N for each hole;   playing a hole, keeping track of each players' score and determining which of two teams has won hole based on which player has lower individual score for the hole;   awarding three-quarters of N points to winning team with lowest score, one-quarter of N points to losing team and one-half N points if the teams have identical low score, with the proviso if lowest score of the winning team is more than one stroke better than the losing team, then the winning team is awarded all N points and the losing team is awarded no points;   repeating playing each hole and awarding points for each hole for the predetermined number of holes until all predetermined number of holes have been played;   adding up total number of points accumulated on total predetermined number of holes; and,   declaring a winning team of the golf match based on the team scoring the most total points.   
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 9 , wherein N is 4, winning score on a hole is 3 points, losing score is 9 point and a tie is 2 points. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the predetermined number of holes is nine and the total points to be awarded is 36 points. 
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the predetermined number of holes is eighteen and the total points to be awarded is 72. 
     
     
         13 . A method for scoring a golf match play game between one or more groups having multiple teams of one or two players for a predetermined number of holes, the method comprising:
 assigning a total point total N for each hole;   playing a hole, keeping track of each players' score and determining which of two teams of each group has won hole based on which player has lower individual score for the hole;   awarding three-quarters of N points to winning team with lowest score, one-quarter of N points to losing team and one-half N points if the teams have identical low score, with the proviso if lowest score of the winning team is more than one stroke better than the losing team, then the winning team is awarded all N points and the losing team is awarded no points;   repeating playing each hole and awarding points for each hole for the predetermined number of holes until all predetermined number of holes have been played;   adding up total number of points accumulated by each team on total predetermined number of holes for each team of the group; and,   declaring a winning group based on the group scoring the most points by totaling together each of the team points of the group.   
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 13 , wherein N is 4, winning score on a hole is 3 points, losing score is 1 point and a tie is 2 points. 
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 14 , wherein the predetermined number of holes is nine, total points to be awarded per team is 36 points, and the total points of the group is the number of teams in the group times 36.
