Modular golf club head including an adjustable weight assembly
Abstract
A modular golf club head with an improved adjustable weighting system for an iron and/or wedge type golf club head is disclosed herein. In accordance with the presently disclosed technology, the golf club head may include a body. The body may include a striking face and a back. The back may include a recessed channel. The golf club head may include a weight assembly. The weight assembly may include a movable weight installable within the recessed channel and movable therein, a slidable cover to engage at least part of the recessed channel, and a fastener. The movable weight may include a compressible polymeric material.

1 . A golf club head comprising:
a body comprising:
a striking face; and
a back extending rearward from at least a part of the striking face, wherein the back comprises a recessed channel, wherein the recessed channel comprises an upper channel; and
a weight assembly comprising:
a movable weight installable within the recessed channel and movable therein;
a slidable cover to engage at least part of the movable weight in a locked configuration, wherein the slidable cover comprises:
a cover through hole; and
an upper extension extending from a top portion of the slidable cover to fit through the upper channel; and
a fastener to secure the slidable cover to the body.
2 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the upper extension comprises:
a heelward extension portion extending substantially horizontally; and a toeward extension portion extending from a toeward end of the heelward extension portion toeward and upward linearly.
3 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the upper channel receives the upper extension.
4 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the upper extension is on a faceward portion of the slidable cover.
5 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the slidable cover comprises a side extension extending from a toeward portion of the slidable cover.
6 . The golf club head of claim 5 , wherein the recessed channel comprises a toeward recessed channel on a toeward end of the recessed channel, wherein the toeward recessed channel receives the side extension.
7 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the recessed channel comprises a first member and a second member to help prevent the slidable cover from falling out in an unlocked configuration.
8 . A golf club head comprising:
a body comprising:
a striking face; and
a back extending rearward from at least a part of the striking face, wherein the back comprises a recessed channel, wherein the recessed channel comprises an upper channel; and
a weight assembly comprising:
a movable weight installable within the recessed channel and movable therein;
a slidable cover to engage at least part of the movable weight in a locked configuration, wherein the slidable cover comprises:
a cover through hole; and
an upper extension extending from a top portion of the slidable cover to fit through the upper channel, wherein the upper extension comprises:
a heelward extension portion extending substantially horizontally; and
a toeward extension portion extending from a toeward end of the heelward extension portion toeward and upward linearly; and
a fastener to secure the slidable cover to the body.
9 . The golf club head of claim 8 , wherein the upper channel receives the upper extension.
10 . The golf club head of claim 8 , wherein the upper extension is on a faceward portion of the slidable cover.
11 . The golf club head of claim 8 , wherein the slidable cover comprises a side extension extending from a toeward portion of the slidable cover.
12 . The golf club head of claim 11 , wherein the recessed channel comprises a toeward recessed channel on a toeward end of the recessed channel, wherein the toeward recessed channel receives the side extension.
13 . The golf club head of claim 8 , wherein the recessed channel comprises a first member and a second member.
14 . The golf club head of claim 8 , wherein the cover through hole is on a toe end of the cover.
15 . A golf club head comprising:
a body comprising:
a striking face; and
a back extending rearward from at least a part of the striking face, wherein the back comprises a recessed channel, wherein the recessed channel comprises an upper channel; and
a weight assembly comprising:
a movable weight installable within the recessed channel and movable therein; and
a slidable cover to engage at least part of the movable weight in a locked configuration, wherein the slidable cover comprises:
an upper extension extending from a top portion of the slidable cover to fit through the upper channel, wherein the upper extension is on a faceward portion of the slidable cover, and wherein the upper extension comprises:
a heelward extension portion extending substantially horizontally; and
a toeward extension portion extending from a toeward end of the heelward extension portion toeward and upward linearly.
16 . The golf club head of claim 15 , wherein the upper channel receives the upper extension.
17 . The golf club head of claim 15 , wherein the slidable cover comprises a side extension extending from a toeward portion of the slidable cover.
18 . The golf club head of claim 17 , wherein the recessed channel comprises a toeward recessed channel on a toeward end of the recessed channel, wherein the toeward recessed channel receives the side extension.
