Claims

Abstract

The present disclosure provides a nucleic acid amplification test molecular diagnostic device. In this respect, a system can include a reusable base component having a heater and a disposable component including a reaction chamber and a sample receiving portion that is fluidly coupled to the reaction chamber. The base component can heat a sample fluid within the reaction chamber. Light can be directed to the reaction chamber, and light can be transmitted light from the reaction chamber to an optical detector. Data may be transmitted to an external device. Certain devices may be used for at home or point-of-care testing, and some devices may be used for laboratory testing.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A nucleic acid amplification test molecular diagnostic device comprising:
 a reusable base component comprising a heater; and   a disposable component comprising a reaction chamber and a sample receiving portion fluidly coupled to the reaction chamber;   wherein the nucleic acid amplification test molecular diagnostic device is configured to heat a fluid within the reaction chamber with the heater,   wherein the nucleic acid amplification test molecular diagnostic device is configured to direct light from a light source to the reaction chamber, and   wherein the nucleic acid amplification test molecular diagnostic device is configured to transmit light from the disposable component to an optical detector.   
     
     
         2 . The nucleic acid amplification test molecular diagnostic device of  claim 1 , wherein an external device comprises the light source and the optical detector, the optical detector is a camera, and the light source and the camera are in optical communication with the reaction chamber via a light transmission path of the reusable base component. 
     
     
         3 . The nucleic acid amplification test molecular diagnostic device of  claim 2 , further comprising an electrical connection interface, the electrical connection interface configured to connect to the external device. 
     
     
         4 . The nucleic acid amplification test molecular diagnostic device of  claim 3 , wherein the reusable base component is configured to receive power from the external device via the electrical connection interface. 
     
     
         5 . The nucleic acid amplification test molecular diagnostic device of  claim 2 , further comprising a wireless communications interface configured to communicate with the external device. 
     
     
         6 . The nucleic acid amplification test molecular diagnostic device of  claim 1 , wherein the disposable component comprises an attachment portion configured to attach to an additional disposable component, wherein the reusable base component is configured to receive a plurality of disposable components, wherein the plurality of disposable components comprise the disposable component, wherein the reusable base component comprises the light source and the optical detector, and wherein the optical detector is configured to transmit data to an external device. 
     
     
         7 . The nucleic acid amplification test molecular diagnostic device of  claim 1 , further comprising a sensor configured to sense a change in a sample in the reaction chamber. 
     
     
         8 . The nucleic acid amplification test molecular diagnostic device of  claim 7 , wherein the sensor is an electrochemical sensor. 
     
     
         9 . The nucleic acid amplification test molecular diagnostic device of  claim 1 , further comprising a waveguide configured to direct light from the light source to the reaction chamber. 
     
     
         10 . The nucleic acid amplification test molecular diagnostic device of  claim 9 , wherein the waveguide is further configured to direct light from the reaction chamber to the optical detector. 
     
     
         11 . The nucleic acid amplification test molecular diagnostic device of  claim 1 , wherein the disposable component comprises a plurality of reaction chambers, and wherein the plurality of reaction chambers comprise the reaction chamber. 
     
     
         12 . The nucleic acid amplification test molecular diagnostic device of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 a rotatable platform, and   at least one additional reaction chamber,   wherein the reaction chamber and the at least one additional reaction chamber are disposed on a top surface of the rotatable platform.   
     
     
         13 . The nucleic acid amplification test molecular diagnostic device of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 a plurality of fiber optic cables, and   at least one additional reaction chamber,   wherein each one of the plurality of fiber optic cables is optically coupled to a corresponding one of the reaction chambers.   
     
     
         14 . The nucleic acid amplification test molecular diagnostic device of  claim 1 , wherein the heater is configured to maintain a set temperature for a set time. 
     
     
         15 . The nucleic acid amplification test molecular diagnostic device of  claim 1 , wherein the heater is configured to provide variable heat output for thermal cycling. 
     
     
         16 . A method for performing a diagnostic test, the method comprising:
 receiving, by a nucleic acid amplification molecular diagnostic device, an indication from an external device to turn on a heater of the nucleic acid amplification molecular diagnostic device;   turning on, by the nucleic acid amplification molecular diagnostic device, the heater of the nucleic acid amplification molecular diagnostic device;   receiving, by the nucleic acid amplification molecular diagnostic device from the external device, an indication to turn off the heater of the nucleic acid amplification molecular diagnostic device; and   turning off, by the nucleic acid amplification molecular diagnostic device, the heater of the nucleic acid amplification molecular diagnostic device.   
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 16 , further comprising:
 sensing, by a sensor of the nucleic acid amplification molecular diagnostic device from the external device, a change in a sample in a reaction chamber of the nucleic acid amplification molecular diagnostic; and   providing an indication of the change in the sample to the external device.   
     
     
         18 . The method of  claim 16 , further comprising:
 receiving, by the nucleic acid amplification molecular diagnostic device from the external device, an indication to rotate a rotatable platform of the nucleic acid amplification molecular diagnostic device; and   providing power to a motor to cause the rotatable platform to rotate.   
     
     
         19 . The method of  claim 16 , further comprising:
 receiving, from the external device, light from a light source of the external device; and   transmitting, from the nucleic acid amplification molecular diagnostic device to a camera element of the external device, light, the light passing through a reaction chamber of the nucleic acid amplification molecular diagnostic device.   
     
     
         20 . A method for performing a diagnostic test, the method comprising:
 controlling, by an external device, a heating element of reusable component of a nucleic acid amplification molecular diagnostic device to heat a fluid in a sample chamber of a disposable component of the nucleic acid amplification molecular diagnostic device;   providing, by the external device, light to the nucleic acid amplification molecular diagnostic device for illuminating the fluid in the sample chamber; and   detecting, with a camera of the external device, a change in color of the fluid, wherein the change in color is associated with the fluid comprising a particular pathogen.
