Ergonomic pistol frame

Abstract

An ergonomic pistol frame incorporating a striker fire trigger system is disclosed. The ergonomic pistol frame has a barrel receiving portion integrally formed with a grip portion and a trigger guard. The barrel receiving portion and grip portion receive and retain a striker and trigger that cooperate to form a firing system. The grip portion includes a magazine cavity that receives and holds a magazine with a magazine catch and catch spring. The magazine catch is held in a biased position by the catch spring so that the magazine catch holds the magazine. The magazine catch may also be pressed on one end to release the magazine. The barrel receiving portion may also include a thumb rest formed by a ledge and recess adjacent the trigger guard. The grip portion may also include weight cavities that hold weights to alter the center of mass of the ergonomic pistol frame.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . An ergonomic pistol frame comprising
 a barrel receiving portion integrally formed with a grip portion and a trigger guard;   the barrel receiving portion and grip portion configured to receive and retain a firing mechanism comprising a striker and a trigger;   a magazine catch inserted through the grip portion adjacent a junction of the trigger guard and grip portion;   a catch spring inserted into the magazine catch through the barrel receiving portion and within the grip portion, wherein the catch spring and magazine catch are configured to cooperate to release a magazine from within the grip portion when the magazine catch is pressed.   
     
     
         2 . The ergonomic pistol frame of  claim 1 , wherein the barrel receiving portion includes at least one thumb rest. 
     
     
         3 . The ergonomic pistol frame of  claim 2 , wherein the at least one thumb rest comprises two ledges formed on opposing sides of the barrel receiving portion. 
     
     
         4 . The ergonomic pistol frame of  claim 2 , wherein the at least one thumb rest is formed in the barrel receiving portion proximal to the trigger guard. 
     
     
         5 . The ergonomic pistol frame of  claim 1 , wherein the grip portion includes at least one weight cavity. 
     
     
         6 . The ergonomic pistol frame of  claim 5 , wherein the at least one weight cavity comprises a rectangular cavity below a triangular cavity. 
     
     
         7 . The ergonomic pistol frame of  claim 5 , wherein the rectangular cavity is placed in a lower rear portion of the grip portion. 
     
     
         8 . The ergonomic pistol frame of  claim 1 , wherein the catch spring comprises a substantially p-shaped wire spring having a first wire end and a second wire end, the first wire end being proximal to the second wire end. 
     
     
         9 . The ergonomic pistol frame of  claim 8 , wherein the magazine catch comprises a first spring hole and a first spring slot formed in a middle portion of the magazine catch, wherein the first end of the p-shaped wire spring is inserted through the first spring hole and the second end of the p-shaped wire spring is inserted through the first spring slot. 
     
     
         10 . The ergonomic pistol frame of  claim 1 , wherein the magazine catch comprises a middle portion, a first catch end with a first catch lobe, wherein the first catch end includes a first catch end hole and the first catch lobe includes a first catch lobe hole, and a second catch end with a second catch lobe, wherein a magazine catch ledge extends between the middle portion and the second catch lobe.
