Abstract

A vehicle includes one or more radars configured to transmit a radar wave and receive a first radar wave reflected back from a surrounding vehicle. to the one or more radars are also configured to receive a second radar wave transmitted from the surrounding vehicle The vehicle further includes a controller configured to detect the surrounding vehicle using the first radar wave and the second radar wave received from the one or more radars.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A vehicle, comprising:
 at least one radar configured to:
 transmit a radar wave and receive a first radar wave reflected back from a surrounding vehicle, and 
 receive a second radar wave transmitted from the surrounding vehicle; and 
   a controller configured to recognize the surrounding vehicle using the first radar wave and the second radar wave received via the at least one radar.   
     
     
         2 . The vehicle of  claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to recognize the surrounding vehicle by merging the first radar wave and the second radar wave. 
     
     
         3 . The vehicle of  claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to distinguish between the first radar wave and the second radar wave based on frequency. 
     
     
         4 . The vehicle of  claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to recognize the surrounding vehicle using information on a location and speed of the surrounding vehicle. 
     
     
         5 . The vehicle of  claim 1 , wherein:
 the at least one radar includes a plurality of radars, and   the plurality of radars are configured to receive one or both of the first radar wave and the second radar wave at different angular ranges.   
     
     
         6 . The vehicle of  claim 5 , wherein the controller is further configured to control the plurality of radars to operate sequentially. 
     
     
         7 . The vehicle of  claim 1 , further comprising a map storage unit including location information and map information. 
     
     
         8 . The vehicle of  claim 7 , wherein the controller is configured to determine whether the vehicle is about to collide with the surrounding vehicle using the location information and the map information from the map storage unit and information on the surrounding vehicle. 
     
     
         9 . A method of controlling a vehicle, the method comprising:
 transmitting, by at least one radar, a radar wave and receiving a first radar wave reflected back from a surrounding vehicle;   receiving, by the at least one radar, a second radar wave transmitted from the surrounding vehicle; and   recognizing, by a controller, the surrounding vehicle using the first radar wave and the second radar wave received via the at least one radar.   
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 9 , wherein recognizing the surrounding vehicle includes recognizing the surrounding vehicle by merging the first radar wave and the second radar wave. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 9 , further comprising: distinguishing, by the controller, between the first radar wave and the second radar wave based on frequency. 
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 9 , wherein recognizing the surrounding vehicle includes recognizing the surrounding vehicle using information on a location and speed of the surrounding vehicle. 
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 9 , wherein:
 the at least one radar include a plurality of radars, and   receiving one or both of the first radar wave and the second radar wave includes receiving the one or both of the first radar wave and the second radar wave at different angular ranges.   
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 13 , further comprising: controlling, by the controller, the plurality of radars to operate sequentially. 
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 9 , further comprising: determining, by the controller, whether the vehicle is about to collide with the surrounding vehicle using location information and map information from a map storage unit and information on the surrounding vehicle.
