Abstract
A stick surface cleaning apparatus comprises a surface cleaning head, which has a dirty air inlet and a surface cleaning head air outlet, and a wand that is moveable between an upright storage position and a reclined in use position. When the wand is mounted to the surface cleaning head and in the upright storage position, the wand has a lower end and an axially spaced apart upper end, a wand axis extending between the lower end and the upper end and a longitudinally extending sidewall, wherein the wand comprises an air treatment member having an air inlet at the lower end of the wand, an air outlet positioned above the air inlet of the air treatment member and a dirt collection region whereby, in operation, dirt separated from air flowing through the wand is collected in the dirt collection region.

1 . A stick surface cleaning apparatus comprising:
(a) an air flow path extending from a dirty air inlet to a clean air outlet with a suction motor provided in the air flow path; (b) a surface cleaning head having a dirty air inlet and a surface cleaning head air outlet; (c) a wand moveable between an upright storage position and a reclined in use position wherein, when the wand is mounted to the surface cleaning head and in the upright storage position, the wand has a lower end and an axially spaced apart upper end, a wand axis extending between the lower end and the upper end and a longitudinally extending sidewall, wherein the wand comprises an air treatment member having an air inlet at the lower end of the wand, an air outlet positioned above the air inlet of the air treatment member and a dirt collection region whereby, in operation, dirt separated from air flowing through the wand is collected in the dirt collection region; and, (d) a driving handle drivingly connected to the surface cleaning head, wherein when the wand is in the upright storage position, the suction motor is positioned above the air outlet of the air treatment member.
2 . The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 1 wherein the wand has an internal volume that consists of the air treatment member.
3 . The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 1 wherein a radial outer surface of the air treatment member defines the longitudinally extending sidewall.
4 . The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 1 wherein the dirt collection region is an axially extending dirt collection chamber and the wand has an axially extending member which separates an internal volume of the wand into a first axially extending chamber and the axially extending dirt collection chamber.
5 . The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 4 wherein a radial outer surface of the first axially extending chamber and a radial outer surface of the axially extending dirt collection chamber define the longitudinally extending sidewall.
6 . The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 1 wherein the air treatment member defines a rigid structure that drivingly connects the handle to the surface cleaning head.
7 . The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 1 wherein the wand is the sole air treatment member of the surface cleaning apparatus.
8 . The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 1 wherein the wand is removably mounted to the surface cleaning head and the handle and the wand is removable with the dirt collection region in a closed position.
9 . The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 8 wherein the wand has an openable door which is moveably mounted between the closed position and an open position in which the dirt collection region is emptiable.
10 . The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 9 wherein the wand has an openable door which is moveably mounted between the closed position and an open position in which the dirt collection region is emptiable.
11 . The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 10 wherein the door has an outer perimeter and the wand axis intends though a location radially inwardly of the outer perimeter of the door.
12 . The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 10 wherein the door is an axially extending door which comprises part of the longitudinally extending sidewall.
13 . The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 1 wherein, in transverse section, the wand is generally circular.
14 . The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 1 wherein the handle is separable from the wand.
15 . A stick surface cleaning apparatus comprising:
(a) an air flow path extending from a dirty air inlet to a clean air outlet with a suction motor provided in the air flow path; (b) a surface cleaning head having a dirty air inlet and a surface cleaning head air outlet; (c) a wand comprising an air treatment member wherein, when the wand is mounted to the surface cleaning head, the wand is moveable between an upright storage position and a reclined in use position; and, (d) a driving handle drivingly connected to the surface cleaning head, wherein, the air treatment member defines a rigid structure that drivingly connects the handle to the surface cleaning head; and wherein, when the wand is mounted to the surface cleaning head and in the upright storage position, the wand has a lower end and an axially spaced apart upper end and a wand axis extends between the lower end and the upper end.
16 . The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 15 wherein, when the wand is mounted to the surface cleaning head and in the upright storage position, the suction motor is positioned above the dirt collection region.
17 . The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 15 wherein the air treatment member has an axially extending sidewall and the axially extending sidewall comprises an exterior wall of the wand.
18 . The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 17 wherein air treatment member comprises a dirt collection chamber, the dirt collection chamber comprises an axially extending sidewall and the axially extending sidewall of the dirt collection chamber comprises part of the exterior wall of the wand.
19 . The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 18 wherein, when the wand is mounted to the surface cleaning head and in the upright storage position, the suction motor is positioned above the dirt collection region and the air treatment member.
20 . The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 15 wherein, when the wand is mounted to the surface cleaning head and in the upright storage position, the wand has a lower end and an axially spaced apart upper end, a wand axis extending between the lower end and the upper end and a longitudinally extending sidewall, the air treatment member comprises a dirt collection region and the wand further comprises an openable door which is moveably mounted between a closed position in which the dirt collection region is closed and an open position in which the dirt collection region is emptiable, wherein the openable door comprises part of the longitudinally extending sidewall.
21 . The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 15 wherein the wand is removable from drivingly connecting the driving handle to the surface cleaning head.
22 . A stick surface cleaning apparatus comprising:
(a) an air flow path extending from a dirty air inlet to a clean air outlet with a suction motor provided in the air flow path; (b) a surface cleaning head having a dirty air inlet and a surface cleaning head air outlet; (c) a wand comprising an air treatment member wherein, when the wand is mounted to the surface cleaning head, the wand is moveable between an upright storage position and a reclined in use position; and, (d) a driving handle drivingly connected to the surface cleaning head, wherein, when the wand is mounted to the surface cleaning head and in the upright storage position, the wand has a lower end comprising a wand air inlet and an axially spaced apart upper end comprising a wand air outlet and a wand axis extends between the lower end and the upper end.
23 . The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 22 wherein, when the wand is mounted to the surface cleaning head and in the upright storage position, the suction motor is positioned above the dirt collection region.
24 . The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 22 wherein the air treatment member has an axially extending sidewall and the axially extending sidewall comprises an exterior wall of the wand.
25 . The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 24 wherein air treatment member comprises a dirt collection chamber, the dirt collection chamber comprises an axially extending sidewall and the axially extending sidewall of the dirt collection chamber comprises part of the exterior wall of the wand.
26 . The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 25 wherein, when the wand is mounted to the surface cleaning head and in the upright storage position, the suction motor is positioned above the dirt collection region and the air treatment member.
27 . The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 22 wherein, when the wand is mounted to the surface cleaning head and in the upright storage position, the wand has a lower end and an axially spaced apart upper end, a wand axis extending between the lower end and the upper end and a longitudinally extending sidewall, the air treatment member comprises a dirt collection region and the wand further comprises an openable door which is moveably mounted between a closed position in which the dirt collection region is closed and an open position in which the dirt collection region is emptiable, wherein the openable door comprises part of the longitudinally extending sidewall.
28 . The surface cleaning apparatus of claim 22 wherein the air treatment member defines a rigid structure that drivingly connects the driving handle to the surface cleaning head.
