Novel aerosol-generating substrate comprising oreganum species
Abstract
An aerosol-generating article is provided, including: an aerosol-generating substrate including a homogenised oregano material, the homogenised oregano material including at least 2.5 percent by weight of oregano particles on a dry weight basis, an aerosol former, and a binder, the aerosol-generating substrate further including: at least 200 micrograms of ursolic acid per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate, on a dry weight basis, at least 5 micrograms of isothymol per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate, on a dry weight basis, and at least 1.5 micrograms of thymohydroquinone per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate, on a dry weight basis. An aerosol-generating substrate, an aerosol-generating system, an aerosol produced upon heating of the aerosol-generating substrate, and method of making the aerosol-generating substrate, are also provided.

16 . An aerosol-generating article, comprising:
an aerosol-generating substrate comprising a homogenised oregano material, the homogenised oregano material comprising at least 2.5 percent by weight of oregano particles on a dry weight basis, an aerosol former, and a binder, wherein the aerosol-generating substrate further comprises:
at least 200 micrograms of ursolic acid per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate, on a dry weight basis,
at least 5 micrograms of isothymol per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate, on a dry weight basis, and
at least 1.5 micrograms of thymohydroquinone per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate, on a dry weight basis.
17 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 16 ,
wherein an amount of the ursolic acid per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate is at least 8 times an amount of the isothymol per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate, and wherein the amount of the ursolic acid per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate is at least 25 times an amount of thymohydroquinone per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate.
18 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 16 , wherein the aerosol-generating substrate further comprises between 1 milligram and 20 milligrams of nicotine per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate, on a dry weight basis.
19 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 16 , wherein the homogenised oregano material further comprises between 5 percent by weight and 30 percent by weight of aerosol former and between 1 percent by weight and 10 percent by weight of binder, on a dry weight basis.
20 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 16 , wherein the binder comprises guar gum.
21 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 16 ,
wherein the homogenised oregano material further comprises tobacco particles, and wherein a weight ratio of oregano particles to tobacco particles is no more than 1:4.
22 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 16 , wherein the homogenised oregano material in the aerosol-generating substrate is in the form of cast leaf.
23 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 16 , wherein the homogenised oregano material in the aerosol-generating substrate is in the form of oregano paper.
24 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 16 , wherein upon heating of the aerosol-generating substrate according to Test Method A, an aerosol is generated comprising:
at least 1.5 micrograms of ursolic acid per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate, on a dry weight basis, at least 0.5 microgram of isothymol per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate, on a dry weight basis, and at least 0.5 microgram of thymohydroquinone per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate, on a dry weight basis.
25 . The aerosol-generating article according to claim 16 ,
wherein upon heating of the aerosol-generating substrate according to Test Method A, an aerosol generated from the aerosol-generating substrate comprises:
ursolic acid in an amount of at least 0.04 micrograms per puff of aerosol,
isothymol in an amount of at least 0.01 micrograms per puff of aerosol, and
thymohydroquinone in an amount of at least 0.01 micrograms per puff of aerosol,
wherein a puff of aerosol has a volume of 55 millilitres as generated by a smoking machine, wherein an amount of ursolic acid per puff of aerosol is at least 2 times an amount of isothymol per puff of aerosol, and wherein the amount of ursolic acid per puff of aerosol is at least 2 times an amount of thymohydroquinone per puff of aerosol.
26 . An aerosol-generating substrate, comprising:
a homogenised oregano material comprising at least 2.5 percent by weight of oregano particles on a dry weight basis, aerosol former, and binder; at least 200 micrograms of ursolic acid per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate, on a dry weight basis; at least 5 micrograms of isothymol per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate, on a dry weight basis; and at least 1.5 micrograms of thymohydroquinone per gram of the aerosol-generating substrate, on a dry weight basis.
27 . An aerosol-generating system, comprising:
an aerosol-generating device comprising a heating element; and an aerosol-generating article according to claim 16 .
28 . An aerosol produced upon heating of an aerosol-generating substrate according to claim 26 , the aerosol comprising:
ursolic acid in an amount of at least 0.04 micrograms per puff of aerosol; isothymol in an amount of at least 0.01 micrograms per puff of aerosol; and thymohydroquinone in an amount of at least 0.01 micrograms per puff of aerosol, wherein a puff of aerosol has a volume of 55 millilitres as generated by a smoking machine, wherein an amount of ursolic acid per puff of aerosol is at least 2 times an amount of isothymol per puff of aerosol, and wherein the amount of ursolic acid per puff of aerosol is at least 2 times an amount of thymohydroquinone per puff of aerosol.
29 . A method of making an aerosol-generating substrate according to claim 26 , the method comprising the steps of:
forming a slurry comprising oregano particles, water, an aerosol former, a binder, and optionally tobacco particles; casting or extruding the slurry in the form of a sheet or strands; and drying the sheet or strands at between 80 degrees Celsius and 160 degrees Celsius.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
