Automated access point information processing with augmented reality for simplified commissioning

Abstract

A method of commissioning a household appliance is provided. The method includes receiving an image of the household appliance, processing the image to determine the location of access point information, generating guidance to the location of the access point information, opening communication between the household appliance and a remote network using the access point information, and commissioning the household appliance to a user account.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method of commissioning a household appliance, the method comprising:
 receiving an image of the household appliance from an external device;   determining a location of an access point information based on the processing of the image;   generating guidance to the location of the access point information, wherein the guidance includes visual instructions provided on a display;   opening communication between the household appliance and a remote network using the access point information; and   commissioning the household appliance to a user account on the remote network.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the image received includes one or more identifying features of the appliance. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the image is one of a single still image, a series of multiple still images, and a video. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 2 , further comprising processing the image of the household appliance, wherein processing the image comprises extracting the one or more identifying features of the household appliance to facilitate identification of the household appliance. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein generating guidance includes an augmented reality display. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 5 , wherein the augmented reality display is provided on an external device. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 5 , wherein the augmented reality display includes an image of a household appliance representing the household appliance to be commissioned and animated graphics indicating the location of an access point location on the household appliance to be commissioned. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 7 , wherein the augmented reality display includes a graphic superimposed over a portion of the image of the household appliance representing the household appliance to be commissioned. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 5 , wherein the augmented reality display comprises a drawing of a portion of the household appliance identifying the access point location on the household appliance to be commissioned. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the access point information comprises a network identification and a password. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein, after generating guidance to the location of the access point information, the method further comprises:
 receiving an image of the access point information at a remote network from the external device;   processing the image;   detecting graphical characters in the processed image corresponding to a network identification and a password using optical character recognition; and   recognizing the network identification and the password, using optical character recognition.   
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 11 , wherein processing the image includes image analysis to identify graphical symbols for network identification and image analysis to identify graphical symbols for a password to gain access to the identified network. 
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 12 , wherein the image analysis to identify graphical symbols for network identification includes identifying a context of the graphical symbols of the network identification. 
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 12 , wherein the image analysis to identify graphical symbols for the password includes identifying a context of the graphical symbols of the password. 
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 12 , wherein the image of the access point information is one of a single still image, a series of multiple still images, and a video. 
     
     
         16 . A method of commissioning a household appliance, the method comprising:
 receiving a first image of the household appliance;   processing the first image of the household appliance, the processing including extracting one or more identifying features of the household appliance to facilitate identification of the household appliance;   determining a location of access point information based on the identification of the household appliance in the first image;   generating guidance to the location of the access point information, wherein the guidance includes visual instructions provided on a display;   receiving a second image, the second image including access point information;   processing the second image;   detecting graphical characters in the processed second image corresponding to a network identification and a password using optical character recognition;   recognizing the network identification and the password, using optical character recognition;   receiving the recognized network identification and password at a remote network;   opening communication between the household appliance and the remote network using the recognized network identification and password; and   commissioning the household appliance to a user account on the remote network.   
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 16 , wherein the communication between the household appliance and the remote network is facilitated by a local area network. 
     
     
         18 . The method of  claim 16 , wherein the first and second images are received from an external device. 
     
     
         19 . The method of  claim 16 , wherein the access point information includes a network identification and a password. 
     
     
         20 . A method of commissioning a household appliance, the method comprising:
 capturing an image of the appliance using an external device;   transmitting the image of the appliance from the external device to a network;   receiving guidance from the network to a location of an access point information;   capturing an image of the access point information at the location of the access point information; and   transmitting the image of the access point information to the network.
