Adjustable incline mattress base

Abstract

An adjustable incline base for a mattress includes an adjustable head assembly having a fixed base and an incline platform pivotably connected with the fixed base; an incline adjustment mechanism connected with the fixed base and incline platform and configured to support the incline platform at a desired angle relative to the fixed base; and at least one length adjustable strap configured to facilitate a connection between the adjustable incline base and the mattress. Associated methods of installing and inclining a mattress are also disclosed.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . An adjustable incline base for a mattress having a head end and a foot end, comprising:
 an adjustable head assembly comprising a fixed base and an incline platform pivotably connected with the fixed base and wherein the adjustable head assembly may be positioned under the head end of the mattress;   an incline adjustment mechanism connected with the fixed base and incline platform and configured to support the incline platform at a desired angle relative to the fixed base; and   at least one length adjustable strap configured to facilitate a connection between the adjustable incline base and the mattress.   
     
     
         2 . The adjustable incline base as set forth in  claim 1 , further comprising:
 a foot assembly comprising at least one retaining bracket with a horizontal component and a vertical component and wherein the horizontal component may be positioned under the foot end of the mattress while the vertical component engages a vertical wall of the foot end of the mattress; and   wherein the at least one length adjustable strap is configured to connect the fixed base to the foot assembly.   
     
     
         3 . The adjustable incline base as set forth in  claim 1 , wherein the incline platform further comprises a frame and at least one lateral extension laterally movable relative to the frame. 
     
     
         4 . The adjustable incline base as set forth in  claim 2 , wherein the horizontal component of the retaining bracket comprises at least one adjustment slot and wherein the at least one length adjustable strap is connected with the adjustable head assembly and wherein a first end of each length adjustable strap may be threaded through the adjustment slot of a corresponding retaining bracket and folded back upon a second end of the length adjustable strap to adjust the length adjustable strap to a desired length and set the foot assembly at a desired distance from the adjustable head assembly. 
     
     
         5 . The adjustable incline base as set forth in  claim 1 , wherein the at least one length adjustable strap comprises a hook and loop fabric on at least one side. 
     
     
         6 . The adjustable incline base as set forth in  claim 1 , wherein the at least one length adjustable strap comprises length indicators. 
     
     
         7 . The adjustable incline base as set forth in  claim 2 , further comprising at least a second retainer bracket and a retainer bar connected with each of the retaining brackets. 
     
     
         8 . The adjustable incline base as set forth in  claim 4 , wherein each retaining bracket comprises a plurality of adjustment slots. 
     
     
         9 . The adjustable incline base as set forth in  claim 1 , further comprising at least one adjustable spacer connected with the fixed base and adjustable in length. 
     
     
         10 . The adjustable incline base as set forth in  claim 1 , wherein the at least one length adjustable strap comprises an elastic material. 
     
     
         11 . The adjustable incline base as set forth in  claim 2 , wherein the at least one length adjustable strap comprises at least one telescoping extender. 
     
     
         12 . The adjustable incline base as set forth in  claim 1 , wherein the length adjustable strap is configured to wrap around a width of the mattress. 
     
     
         13 . The adjustable incline base as set forth in  claim 1 , wherein the length adjustable strap is configured to wrap around a length of the mattress. 
     
     
         14 . The adjustable incline base as set forth in  claim 1 , wherein the fixed base further comprises at least one adjustable strap configured to wrap around an adjacent portion of a support base underlying the mattress to secure to the fixed base to the support base. 
     
     
         15 . The adjustable incline base as set forth in  claim 1 , wherein the fixed base further comprises at least one mounting hole therein configured to accept a fastener for connection with an adjacent portion of a support base underlying the mattress. 
     
     
         16 . The adjustable incline base as set forth in  claim 1 , wherein overall dimensions of the adjustable incline base fit within a shipping box having a combined length and girth no more than 165″. 
     
     
         17 . The adjustable incline base as set forth in  claim 16 , wherein a combined weight of the adjustable incline base and the shipping box is no more than 150 lbs. 
     
     
         18 . A method of installing and inclining a mattress on a support base underlying the mattress having a head end and a foot end, comprising the steps of:
 providing an adjustable incline mattress base, comprising:
 an adjustable head assembly having a fixed base and an incline platform pivotably connected with the fixed base and wherein the adjustable head assembly may be positioned under the head end of the mattress; 
 an incline adjustment mechanism connected with the fixed base and incline platform and configured to support the incline platform at a desired angle relative to the fixed base; 
 a foot assembly comprising at least one retaining bracket with a horizontal component and a vertical component and wherein the horizontal component may be positioned under the foot end of the mattress while the vertical component engages a vertical wall of the foot end of the mattress; and 
 at least one length adjustable strap connected with the adjustable head assembly and with the foot assembly; 
   placing the adjustable head assembly at the head end of the support base;   placing the foot assembly at the foot end of the support base;   identifying a suitable adjusted length for the adjustable incline mattress base based on a length of the mattress;   adjusting the at least one at least one length adjustable strap to an adjustment length resulting in the adjustable incline mattress base having the suitable adjustable length;   placing the mattress on the adjustable incline mattress base; and   adjusting the incline platform with the incline adjustment mechanism to a desired angle relative to the fixed base.   
     
     
         19 . The method of installing and inclining a mattress as set forth in  claim 18 , wherein the incline platform further comprises a frame and at least one lateral extension laterally movable relative to the frame; and further comprising the step of moving the at least one lateral extension relative to the frame of the incline platform to a width of the mattress. 
     
     
         20 . The method of installing and inclining a mattress as set forth in  claim 18 , wherein:
 the horizontal component of the at least one retaining bracket comprises at least one adjustment slot and wherein a first end of the at least one length adjustable strap may be threaded through the adjustment slot of a corresponding retaining bracket and folded back upon a second end of the at least one length adjustable strap to adjust the at least one length adjustable strap to a desired length and set the foot assembly at a desired distance from the adjustable head assembly; and   wherein the step of adjusting the at least one length adjustable strap further comprises threading the first end of each length adjustable strap through the adjustment of the corresponding retaining bracket and folding the first end of the length adjustable strap back upon the second end of the length adjustable strap and securing the length adjustable strap at the adjustment length resulting in the adjustable incline mattress base having the suitable adjustable length.   
     
     
         21 . The method of installing and inclining a mattress as set forth in  claim 18 , wherein the fixed base further comprises at least one adjustable strap and further comprising the step wrapping the at least one adjustable strap around a portion of the support base adjacent to the fixed base to secure the adjustable head assembly with the support base. 
     
     
         22 . The method of installing and inclining a mattress as set forth in  claim 18 , wherein the fixed base further comprises at least one mounting hole therein configured to accept a fastener and further comprising the step of inserting the fastener through the at least one mounting hole and through or into a portion of the support base adjacent to the fixed base to secure the head assembly with the support. 
     
     
         23 . A method of installing and inclining a mattress on a support having a head end and a foot end, comprising the steps of:
 providing an adjustable incline mattress base, comprising:
 an adjustable head assembly having a fixed base and an incline platform pivotably connected with the fixed base and wherein the adjustable head assembly may be positioned under the head end of the mattress; 
 an incline adjustment mechanism connected with the fixed base and incline platform and configured to support the incline platform at a desired angle relative to the fixed base; and 
 at least one length adjustable strap configured to connect the adjustable incline base and the mattress; 
   placing the mattress on the adjustable incline mattress base;   wrapping the at least one length adjustable strap around one of a width or a length of the mattress and securing a first end of the of the length adjustable strap with a second end of the length adjustable strap; and   adjusting the incline platform with the incline adjustment mechanism to a desired angle relative to the fixed base.
