Abstract

Embodiments of the represent disclosure provides a multi-purpose screed device suitable to provide draining and/or ventilation at various locations of exterior walls in a building. The multi-purpose screed device is compatible with exterior walls with a rain screen disposed outside a weather-resistant barrier layer. The multi-purpose screed device may use a foundation weep screed, overhang soffit screed, and soffit ventilation.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A multi-purpose screed device, comprising:
 a wall cladding section; a plaster support section connected to the wall cladding section at a first edge, wherein a plurality of first openings and a plurality of second openings are formed through the plaster support section, the plurality of first openings are closer to the first edge than the plurality of second openings, and the plaster support section is substantially planar; and an end ventilation section connected to the plaster support section at a second edge, wherein a plurality of third openings are formed through the end ventilation section.

         2 . The multi-purpose screed device of claim 1 , wherein the wall cladding section protrudes over the end ventilation section the guard and gauge section.

         3 . The multi-purpose screed device of claim 2 , wherein the end ventilation section is substantially perpendicular to the wall cladding section.

         4 . The multi-purpose screed device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of first openings are formed along the first edge.

         5 . The multi-purpose screed device of claim 4 , wherein the plurality of second openings are formed along a central line between the second edge and third edge.

         6 . The multi-purpose screed device of claim 1 , further comprising a guard and gate section connected to the end ventilation section at a third edge.

         7 . The multi-purpose screed device of claim 6 , wherein the guard and gauge section folds over the end ventilation section along the third edge, and the guard and gauge section is substantially parallel to the end ventilation section.

         8 . The multi-purpose screed device of claim 1 , wherein the wall cladding section and the plaster supporting section form an angle greater than 90 degrees.

         9 . The multi-purpose screed device of claim 8 , wherein the wall cladding section and the plaster supporting section form an angle in a range between 120 degrees and 150 degrees.

         10 . A method for applying a veneer exterior wall, comprising:
 building a sheathing layer, wherein a lower edge of the sheathing layer is formed on a top surface of a foundation and an upper edge of the sheeting layer contacts a ceiling structure; attaching a first multi-purpose screed device along the lower edge of the sheathing layer, wherein the first multi-purpose screed device comprises:
 a wall cladding section;
 a plaster support section connected to the wall cladding section at a first edge, wherein a plurality of first openings and a plurality of second openings are formed through the plaster support section, the plurality of first openings are closer to the first edge than the plurality of second openings, and the plaster support section is substantially planar; and
   an end ventilation section connected to the plaster support section at a second edge, wherein a plurality of third openings are formed through the end ventilation section; attaching a weather-resist barrier (WBR) layer over the sheathing layer and the wall cladding section of the first multi-purpose screed device layer; attaching a rain screen layer over the WBR layer, wherein the rain screen layer aligns with the plurality of first openings in the first multi-purpose screed device; and applying a veneer layer over the rain screen layer, wherein an exterior surface of the veneer layer aligns with the third edge of the first multi-purpose screed device.

         11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein attaching the first multi-purpose screed device along the lower edge of the sheathing layer comprises:
 securing the wall cladding section of the first multi-purpose screed device to an exterior surface of the sheathing layer, wherein the first edge of the first multi-purpose screed device is positioned below the top surface of the foundation layer.

         12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the WRB layer terminates at a distance above the first edge of the first multi-purpose screed device, and the rain screen layer extends to the first edge of the first multi-purpose screed device.

         13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the veneer layer is a stucco layer and a portion of stucco layer through the plurality of second openings.

         14 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising attaching a second multi-purpose screed device along the upper edge of the sheath, wherein the first and second multi-purpose screed devices are identical, wherein the WRB layer covers a portion of the wall cladding section of the second multi-purpose screed device, and the rain screen extends to the first end of the second multi-purpose screed device.

         15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein attaching the second multi-purpose screed device comprising securing the wall cladding section of the second multi-purpose screed device to the exterior surface of the sheathing layer, wherein the end ventilation section of the second multi-purpose screed device faces the ceiling structure.

         16 . The method of claim 15 , further comprising inserting a cover structure in a gap between the end ventilation section of the second multi-purpose screed device faces the ceiling structure.

         17 . A cover structure, comprising:
 an elongated body having a cross section profile comprising:
 a first section;
 a second section connected to the first section;
 a third section connected to the second section;
 a fourth section connected to the third section;
 a fifth section connected to the fourth section;
 a sixth section connected to the fifth section; and
 a seventh section connected to the sixth section, wherein the third section and the fifth section are substantially parallel to each other, and a gap exists between the third section and the seventh section.

         18 . The cover structure of claim 17 , wherein the third section is substantially vertical, and the first section is substantially horizontal, and the second section is a sloped.
