Claims

Abstract

A compressor including a shell, a scroll assembly, and driveshaft. The scroll assembly includes an orbiting scroll including a orbiting spiral wrap and a second opening including a drive bearing disposed therein. The drive bearing is axial aligned with the orbiting spiral wrap. The compressor includes an unloader rotationally connected to the driveshaft body and rotationally supported with a primary bearing.

1 . A compressor comprising:
 a shell;   a scroll assembly disposed within the shell, the scroll assembly comprising:
 a non-orbiting scroll including a non-orbiting spiral wrap, wherein the non-orbiting scroll includes a first opening extending through the non-orbiting scroll; 
 an orbiting scroll including an orbiting spiral wrap and a second opening including a drive bearing disposed therein, wherein the drive bearing is axially aligned with the orbiting spiral wrap; and 
   a driveshaft including a driveshaft body and an eccentric body, the eccentric body disposed within the second opening and drivingly engaged with the drive bearing of the orbiting scroll, wherein at least a portion of the driveshaft extends through the first opening and through the non-orbiting spiral wrap such that the driveshaft includes a portion that is axially aligned with the non-orbiting spiral wrap, and the second opening and wherein the driveshaft does not extend beyond a first side of the scroll assembly;   a primary bearing disposed within the first opening of the non-orbiting scroll; and   an unloader rotationally connected to the driveshaft body and rotationally supported with the primary bearing.

         3 . The compressor of  claim 1 , wherein the driveshaft passes through the primary bearing and at least partially into an upper opening defined in an upper housing. 
     
     
         4 . The compressor of  claim 1 , wherein the compressor further comprises:
 a first counterweight connected to the driveshaft; and   a second counterweight connected to the driveshaft, the second counterweight axially spaced from the first counterweight.

         6 . The compressor of  claim 4 , wherein the first counterweight and the second counterweight are connected to the second portion of the driveshaft on a second side of the scroll assembly that opposes the first side of the scroll assembly.

The compressor of  claim 4 , wherein the compressor includes a motor drivingly engaged with the driveshaft, wherein the motor includes a motor first side and a motor second side axially displaced from the motor first side, wherein the first counterweight is disposed on the motor first side and the second counterweight is disposed on the motor second side. 
     
     
         8 . The compressor of  claim 4 , wherein the unloader and the primary bearing are disposed axially from the first and second counterweights. 
     
     
         9 . The compressor of  claim 4 , wherein the unloader is an annular unloader that surrounds the driveshaft. 
     
     
         10 . The compressor of  claim 1  further comprising a secondary bearing axially displaced from the primary bearing. 
     
     
         11 . A compressor comprising:
 a shell;   a scroll assembly disposed within the shell, the scroll assembly comprising:
 a non-orbiting scroll including a non-orbiting spiral wrap, wherein the non-orbiting scroll including a first opening; and 
 an orbiting scroll including an orbiting spiral wrap and a second opening including a drive bearing disposed therein, wherein the drive bearing is axially aligned with the orbiting spiral wrap; 
   a driveshaft including a driveshaft body and an eccentric body, wherein the eccentric body is disposed within the second opening and drivingly engaged with the drive bearing of the orbiting scroll, wherein at least a portion of the driveshaft extends through the first opening and the second opening and through the non-orbiting spiral wrap such that the driveshaft includes a portion that is axially aligned with the non-orbiting spiral wrap, and wherein the driveshaft does not extend beyond a first side of the scroll assembly;   a primary bearing connected to the shell and axially displaced from the non-orbiting scroll; and   an unloader rotationally connected to the driveshaft body and rotationally supported with the primary bearing.

The compressor of  claim 16 , wherein the compressor includes a motor drivingly engaged with the driveshaft, wherein the motor includes a motor first side and a motor second side axially displaced from the motor first side, wherein the first counterweight is disposed on the motor second side and the second counterweight is disposed on the motor second side. 
     
     
         18 . The compressor of  claim 17 , wherein the unloader and the primary bearing are disposed axially from the first and second counterweights. 
     
     
         19 . The compressor of  claim 18 , wherein the unloader is an annular unloader that surrounds the driveshaft. 
     
     
         20 . The compressor of  claim 19 , further comprising a secondary bearing axially displaced from the primary bearing. 
     
     
         21 . A compressor comprising:
 a shell;   a scroll assembly disposed within the shell, the scroll assembly comprising:
 a non-orbiting scroll including a non-orbiting spiral wrap, wherein the non-orbiting scroll includes a first opening; and 
 an orbiting scroll including an orbiting spiral wrap and a second opening including a drive bearing disposed therein, wherein the drive bearing is axial aligned with the orbiting spiral wrap; and 
   a driveshaft including a driveshaft body and an eccentric body, the eccentric body disposed within the second opening and drivingly engaged with the drive bearing of the orbiting scroll;   a primary bearing disposed within the first opening of the non-orbiting scroll; and   an unloader rotationally connected to the driveshaft body and rotationally supported with the primary bearing.
