Modular golf club head including an adjustable weight assembly
Abstract
A modular golf club head with an improved adjustable weighting system for an iron and/or wedge type golf club head is disclosed herein. In accordance with the presently disclosed technology, the golf club head may include a body. The body may include a striking face and a back. The back may include a recessed channel. The golf club head may include a weight assembly. The weight assembly may include a movable weight installable within the recessed channel and movable therein, a slidable cover to engage at least part of the recessed channel, and a fastener. The movable weight may include a compressible polymeric material.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A modular golf club head comprising:
a body comprising:
a striking face; and
a back extending rearward from at least a part of the striking face, wherein the back comprises a recessed channel; and
a weight assembly comprising:
a movable weight installable within the recessed channel and movable therein, wherein the movable weight comprises a compressible polymeric material to engage the recessed channel in a locked configuration;
a slidable cover to engage at least part of the movable weight in the locked configuration, wherein the slidable cover comprises a cover through hole; and
a fastener to secure the slidable cover to the body.
2 . The modular golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the compressible polymeric material is located on a bottom of the movable weight.
3 . The modular golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the compressible polymeric material comprises one of a polymer, a rubber, and a plastic.
4 . The modular golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the compressible polymeric material is compressed in the locked configuration.
5 . The modular golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the slidable cover slides in a sliding direction, wherein the sliding direction is at an angle θ, and wherein the angle θ is measured from a heel-to-toe axis toward a bottom-to-top axis.
6 . The modular golf club head of claim 1 , wherein installing the weight assembly provides a uniform appearance to the modular golf club head.
7 . The modular golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the slidable cover comprises a first cover portion and a second cover portion, wherein the first cover portion comprises a first material and the second cover portion comprises a second material, and wherein the first material is denser than the second material.
8 . The modular golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the movable weight comprises a first weight portion and a second weight portion, wherein the first weight portion comprises a third material and the second weight portion comprises a fourth material, and wherein the third material is denser than the fourth material.
9 . The modular golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the recessed channel comprises a spring, wherein the slidable cover further comprises a slot to receive the spring, and wherein locking the slidable cover compresses the spring and moves the spring into the slot.
10 . A modular golf club head comprising:
a body comprising:
a striking face; and
a back extending rearward from at least a part of the striking face, wherein the back comprises a recessed channel; and
a weight assembly comprising:
a movable weight installable within the recessed channel and movable therein;
a slidable cover to engage at least part of the movable weight in a locked configuration, wherein the slidable cover comprises:
a faceward slidable cover portion on a faceward portion of the slidable cover, wherein the faceward slidable cover portion comprises a faceward portion angle θ FP ; and
a cover through hole; and
a fastener to secure the slidable cover to the body.
11 . The modular golf club head of claim 10 , wherein the faceward portion angle θ FP is between about 0 degrees and about 10 degrees.
12 . The modular golf club head of claim 10 , wherein the cover through hole is on a toe end of the cover.
13 . The modular golf club head of claim 10 , wherein the slidable cover further comprises a rearward slidable cover portion on a rearward portion of the slidable cover, wherein the rearward slidable cover portion comprises a rearward portion angle α RP , and wherein rearward portion angle α RP is between about 0 degrees and about 10 degrees.
14 . The modular golf club head of claim 10 , wherein the movable weight comprises an upper weight portion, wherein the upper weight portion comprises a topward portion angle γ, and wherein the topward portion angle γ is between about 0 degrees and about 10 degrees.
15 . The modular golf club head of claim 10 , wherein the movable weight comprises a lower weight portion, wherein the lower weight portion comprises a bottom weight angle β w , and wherein the bottom weight angle β w is between about 0 degrees and about 10 degrees.
16 . The modular golf club head of claim 10 , wherein the recessed channel comprises a rearward portion, wherein the rearward portion comprises rear recessed channel angle α RC , and wherein the rear recessed channel angle α RC is between about 0 degrees and about 10 degrees.
17 . The modular golf club head of claim 10 , wherein the recessed channel comprises a bottom portion, wherein the bottom portion comprises bottom portion angle β, and wherein the bottom portion angle β is between about 0 degrees and about 10 degrees.
18 . The modular golf club head of claim 10 , wherein the recessed channel comprises a spring, wherein the slidable cover further comprises a slot to receive the spring, and wherein locking the slidable cover compresses the spring and moves it into the slot.
19 . A modular golf club head comprising:
a body comprising:
a striking face; and
a back extending rearward from at least a part of the striking face, wherein the back comprises a recessed channel, and wherein the recessed channel comprises a spring slot comprising a spring; and
a weight assembly comprising:
a movable weight installable within the recessed channel and movable therein;
