Abstract
A less lethal ammunition system comprising a hull, a projectile, and a sabot. The projectile comprising an elongated body with a front end and a back end, wherein the front end is a rounded semi-spherical shape tapering toward the back end, and wherein the back end comprises a plurality of flexible fins extending outwardly from the back end of the elongated body; and a sabot comprising a base and a plurality of tabs flexibly attached to the base and extending outwardly from the base, wherein the plurality of tabs are configured to flexibly fold inward to define a space for the projectile and flexibly fold outward to release the projectile; wherein the projectile fits within the sabot; and wherein the sabot fits within the hull.

a projectile comprising an elongated body with a front end and a back end, wherein the front end is a rounded semi-spherical shape tapering toward the back end, and wherein the back end comprises a plurality of flexible fins extending outwardly from the back end of the elongated body; and a sabot comprising a base and a plurality of tabs flexibly attached to the base and extending outwardly from the base, wherein the plurality of tabs are configured to flexibly fold inward to define a space for the projectile and flexibly fold outward to release the projectile; wherein the projectile fits within the sabot.
2 . The less lethal ammunition system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of tabs on the sabot further comprise a plurality of horizontal ridges spaced evenly on an outside surface of the sabot.
3 . The less lethal ammunition system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of flexible fins are configured to operatively cause the projectile to spin in flight.
4 . The less lethal ammunition system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of tabs on the sabot comprise a base end and a distal end opposite the base end, wherein the base end is narrow to allow the plurality of flexible fins of the projectile to extend outward beyond an outer surface of the sabot.
5 . The less lethal ammunition system of claim 4 , wherein the distal end of the plurality of tabs is wider and configured to fully encapsulate the front end of the projectile.
6 . The less lethal ammunition system of claim 1 , wherein the front end of the elongated body is comprised of a denser material than the back end of the elongated body.
7 . The less lethal ammunition system of claim 6 , wherein the front end of the elongated body is heavier than the back end.
8 . The less lethal ammunition system of claim 1 , wherein the base of the sabot comprises a top surface and a bottom surface comprising a concave shape.
9 . The less lethal ammunition system of claim 1 , wherein the base of the sabot comprises a clocking feature on a top surface, the clocking feature configured to engage and position the projectile using the plurality of fins, wherein the clocking feature comprises a plurality of raised portions.
10 . The less lethal ammunition system of claim 8 , wherein the top surface comprises a clocking feature configured to interact and position the projectile using the plurality of fins, wherein the clocking feature comprises a plurality of raised portions.
11 . A less lethal ammunition system comprising:
a hull comprising a a projectile comprising an elongated body with a front end and a back end, wherein the front end is a rounded semi-spherical shape tapering toward the back end, and wherein the back end comprises a plurality of flexible fins extending outwardly from the back end of the elongated body; and a sabot comprising a base and a plurality of tabs flexibly attached to the base and extending outwardly from the base, wherein the plurality of tabs are configured to flexibly fold inward to define a space for the projectile and flexibly fold outward to release the projectile; wherein the projectile fits within the space in the sabot; and wherein the sabot fits within the hull.
12 . The less lethal ammunition system of claim 11 , wherein the plurality of tabs on the sabot further comprise a plurality of horizontal ridges spaced evenly on an outside surface of the sabot.
13 . The less lethal ammunition system of claim 11 , wherein the plurality of flexible fins are configured to operatively cause the projectile to spin in flight.
14 . The less lethal ammunition system of claim 11 , wherein the plurality of tabs on the sabot comprise a base end and a distal end opposite the base end, wherein the base end is narrow to allow the plurality of flexible fins of the projectile to extend outward beyond an outer surface of the sabot.
15 . The less lethal ammunition system of claim 14 , wherein the distal end of the plurality of tabs is wider and configured to fully encapsulate the front end of the projectile.
16 . The less lethal ammunition system of claim 11 , wherein the front end of the elongated body is comprised of a denser material than the back end of the elongated body.
17 . The less lethal ammunition system of claim 16 , wherein the front end of the elongated body is heavier than the back end.
18 . The less lethal ammunition system of claim 11 , wherein the base of the sabot comprises a top surface and a bottom surface comprising a concave shape.
