Low Profile Cam Pin

Abstract

Provided is a low profile cam pin for a rotating bolt carrier group for a firearm. This cam pin is contoured to allow the operating systems to be positioned closer to the bolt allowing for a more compact firearm design.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A low profile cam pin for a rotating bolt and bolt carrier comprising:
 A body having a shaft section and a head section; and   Said shaft section having a firing pin aperture   Said shaft section having a cam path bearing surface   Said head section having a receiver bearing surface   Said head section having a contoured profile that prevents contact with a low profile operating rod and;   Wherein said contoured profile is within the defined clearance area.   
     
     
         2 . A low profile cam pin for a rotating bolt and bolt carrier with a general cylindrical shape comprising:
 A body having a shaft section and a head section; and   Said shaft section having a firing pin aperture   Said shaft section having a cam path bearing surface   Said head section having a receiver bearing surface   Said head section having a contoured profile that prevents contact with a low profile operating rod and;   Wherein the low profile operating rod body is within 0.1″ from the general cylindrical shape bolt carrier at the low profile cam pin.   
     
     
         3 . A low profile cam pin for a rotating bolt and bolt carrier comprising:
 A body having a shaft section and a head section; and   Said shaft section having a firing pin aperture   Said shaft section having a cam path bearing surface   Said head section having a receiver bearing surface   Said head section having a contoured profile that prevents contact with a low profile operating rod and;   Wherein the low profile operating rod body is within 0.6″ from the center of the bolt at the low profile cam pin.
