One-piece shingle repair patch

Abstract

A shingle repair patch is provided that may include a base member and granules as discussed in detail above. An adhesive strip is positioned proximate an upper edge on the underside of the base member, or elsewhere on the underside of the base member. The adhesive strip preferably permanently bonds a rigid lip to the base member. The rigid lip preferably extends beyond the upper edge of the base member. An adhesive strip may be positioned on at least a portion of the bottom side of the rigid lip. Release tape is temporarily affixed to the adhesive strip. The adhesive strip is composed of an adhesive that adheres securely without an extended or heat-induced cure period. Standard adhesive may be applied to the remainder of the bottom of the base member, or further adhesive like that found in the adhesive strip may be applied to the remainder of the bottom of the base member.

1 . A shingle patch for repairing a damaged portion of a damaged shingle, the shingle patch comprising:
 a body having top and bottom surfaces;   a first sealant applied to at least a portion of the bottom surface of the body; and   a second sealant applied to at least a portion of the bottom surface of the body.   
     
     
         2 . The shingle patch of  claim 1 , wherein the first sealant and second sealant are selected to provide a bond between the shingle patch and the damaged shingle. 
     
     
         3 . The shingle patch of  claim 2 , wherein the first sealant provides a bond with faster curing than the second sealant, or with no curing time. 
     
     
         4 . The shingle patch of  claim 2 , wherein the second sealant provides a more durable bond than the first sealant. 
     
     
         5 . The shingle patch of  claim 1 , wherein the portion of the bottom surface of the body to which the first sealant is applied and the portion of the bottom surface of the body to which the second sealant is applied do not overlap. 
     
     
         6 . The shingle patch of  claim 1 , wherein a release material is applied to cover the portion of the bottom surface of the body to which the first sealant is applied or the portion of the bottom surface of the body to which the second sealant is applied. 
     
     
         7 . A shingle patch for repairing a damaged portion of a damaged shingle, the shingle patch comprising:
 a body having top and bottom surfaces, the bottom surface having a first area and a second area;   a first sealant applied to the first area of the bottom surface;   the second area adapted to receive a second sealant during installation of the shingle patch.   
     
     
         8 . The shingle patch of  claim 7 , wherein both the first sealant and the second sealant are selected to provide a bond between the shingle patch and the damaged shingle. 
     
     
         9 . The shingle patch of  claim 8 , wherein the first sealant provides a bond with faster curing than the second sealant, or provides a bond with no curing time. 
     
     
         10 . The shingle patch of  claim 8 , wherein the second sealant provides a more durable bond than the first sealant. 
     
     
         11 . The shingle patch of  claim 7 , wherein the first sealant is applied to the entirety of the first area of the bottom surface and the second sealant is applied to the entirety of the second area of the bottom surface. 
     
     
         12 . The shingle patch of  claim 7 , wherein the first area of the bottom surface and the second area of the bottom surface do not overlap. 
     
     
         13 . The shingle patch of  claim 7 , wherein a release material is applied to cover the portion of the first area of the bottom surface to which the first sealant is applied or the portion of the second area of the bottom surface to which the second sealant is applied. 
     
     
         14 . A method of making a shingle patch for repairing a damaged portion of a damaged shingle, comprising:
 forming a body having top and bottom surfaces, the bottom surface having a first area and second area;   applying a first sealant to the first area of the bottom surface; and   applying a second sealant to the second area of the bottom surface.   
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 14 , wherein the first area of the bottom surface to which the first sealant is applied and the second area of the bottom surface to which the second sealant is applied do not overlap. 
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 14 , further comprising applying a release material to the portion of the first area of the bottom surface to which the first sealant is applied or to the portion of the second area of the bottom surface to which the second sealant is applied. 
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 14 , wherein applying the first sealant comprises applying the first sealant to the entirety of the first area of the bottom surface and applying the second sealant comprises applying the second sealant to the entirety of the second area of the bottom surface. 
     
     
         18 . The method of  claim 14 , wherein applying the first sealant comprises application of the first sealant in the field during installation of the shingle patch. 
     
     
         19 . The method of  claim 14 , wherein applying the second sealant comprises application of the second sealant in the field during installation of the shingle patch. 
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 14 , wherein applying the first sealant comprises applying a sealant that provides a bond between the shingle patch and the damaged shingle that cures faster than the bond provided by the second sealant.
