Abstract
A system that circulates air in a building room, such as for ventilation or heating via convection heat flow, by blowing heated air directly into the room centrally and thereby displacing cold air and pushing it toward the walls of the room, up the walls, and into an exhaust fan to be exhausted out of the building, the system including a heater fan and exhaust fan, and heater mounted in a housing within the ceiling, and a shield that includes one or more grates sized and shaped to accelerate air speed, increase air temperature, and to direct air away from the ceiling centrally into the room and receive air flowing between the shield and the ceiling.

A system for heating a room, the room having an interior and a ceiling with an opening in the ceiling, the ceiling having opposing first and second surfaces, the second surface facing an interior of the room, the opening communicating with the first and second surfaces, the system comprising:
a housing structured to be mounted within the opening in the ceiling; a heater mounted in the housing and structured to create heated air; a fan mounted within the housing and structured to push the heated air toward the interior of the room; and a shield coupled to the housing and spaced from the ceiling, the shield structured to provide directional air flow of the heated air pushed toward the interior of the room; the system thereby facilitating directional circulation of air in the room by pushing the heated air toward the center of the room to displace cold air that then rises to the ceiling and passes through the housing.
2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the shield includes at least one grate comprised of slots such that heated air heated by the heater is dispersed through the at least one grate into the interior of the room.
3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the shield includes a first grate comprised of slots positioned at a first angle and a second grate adjacent to the first grate that is comprised of slots positioned at a second angle, wherein the first and second angles are different and the first and second grates are adapted to be substantially vertically aligned with the heater such that heated air heated by the heater is dispersed through the first and second grates into the interior of the room.
4 . The system of claim 1 further comprising:
a trim ring sized and shaped to be releasably engaged within the opening and to bear against the second surface of the ceiling; and
a stand-off coupleable to the shield and structured to releasably connect the shield to the trim ring in order to form air channels between the shield and trim ring to permit cold air to pass between the shield and the trim ring.
5 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising:
a lens centrally located on the shield and adjacent to the at least one grate; and a light source mounted in the housing and structured to emit light through the lens and into the room.
6 . A system for heating a room, the room having an interior and a ceiling with opposing first and second surfaces, the second surface facing the interior of the room, the ceiling further having an opening that communicates with the first and second surfaces, the system comprising:
a housing structured to be mounted within the opening in the ceiling; a heater mounted in the housing and structured to create heated air; a fan mounted within the housing and structured to push the heated air toward the interior of the room; a trim ring sized and shaped to be releasably engaged with the housing within the opening and to bear against the second surface of the ceiling; and a shield sized and shaped to cover the housing and the opening, the shield structured to allow cold air to pass between the shield and the ceiling, the shield including a first grate comprised of slots positioned at a first angle and a second grate adjacent to the first grate that is comprised of slots positioned at a second angle, wherein the first and second angles are different and the the first and second grates are adapted to be substantially vertically aligned with the heater, the shield including a stand-off coupleable to the shield and structured to releasably connect the shield to the trim ring in order to form air channels between the shield and trim ring to permit cold air to pass between the shield and the trim ring such that heated air is dispersed through the first and second grates into the interior of the room, displacing cold air that then rises to the ceiling and passes through the air channels into the housing.
7 . A system for heating an enclosed space having a ceiling and an interior, the ceiling having opposing first and second surfaces, the second surface facing the interior of the enclosed space, and an opening formed in the ceiling that communicates with the first and second surfaces, the system comprising:
a housing structured to be mounted within the opening in the ceiling; a heater mounted in the housing and structured to create heated air; a fan mounted within the housing and structured to push the heated air toward the interior of the enclosed space; and a shield sized and shaped to cover the housing and the opening and to direct the heated air into the interior of the enclosed space.
8 . The system of claim 7 , wherein the shield includes a first grate comprised of slots and a second grate adjacent to the first grate that is comprised of slots, such that heated air heated by the heater is dispersed through the first and second grates into the interior of the enclosed space.
9 . The system of claim 8 wherein the slots of the first grate are positioned at a first angle and the slots of the second grate are positioned at a second angle, wherein the first and second angles are different.
10 . The system of claim 9 wherein the first angle is 20 degrees relative to vertical and the second angle is −20 degrees relative to vertical.
11 . The system of claim 7 , wherein the shield includes at least one grate comprised of slots and adapted to be substantially vertically aligned with the heater such that heated air heated by the heater is dispersed through the at least one grate into the interior of the enclosed space.
12 . The system of claim 7 further comprising:
a trim ring sized and shaped to be releasably engaged within the opening and to bear against the second surface of the ceiling; and
a stand-off coupleable to the shield and structured to releasably connect the shield to the trim ring in order to form air channels between the shield and trim ring to permit air to pass between the shield and the trim ring.
13 . The system of claim 7 further comprising:
a lens centrally located on the shield and adjacent to the at least one grate; and
a light source mounted in the housing and structured to emit light through the lens and into the enclosed space.
14 . A system for heating a room having walls and a ceiling that define an interior of the room, the ceiling having opposing first and second surfaces, the second surface facing the interior of the room, the ceiling having an opening that communications with the first and second surfaces, the system comprising:
a housing structured to be mounted within the opening in the ceiling; a heater mounted in the housing and structured to create heated air; a fan mounted within the housing and structured to push the heated air toward the interior of the room; a trim ring sized and shaped to be releasably engaged with the housing within the opening and to bear against the second surface of the ceiling; and a shield coupleable to the trim ring, the shield including at least one grate comprised of slots that are structured to provide directional air flow of the heated air pushed toward the interior of the room; the system thereby facilitating directional circulation of air in the room by pushing heated air through the grates toward the center of the room to displace cold air that then rises to the ceiling and passes through the housing.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
