Abstract
An apparatus and method for wirelessly perforating a wellbore casing. The apparatus includes a body, at least one explosive charge, a trigger, a depth correlation device, a detonator cord, and a detonator. The depth correlation device is programmed to send a signal to the trigger to ignite/fire the detonator, which ignites the detonator cord and explosive charges. The method utilizes the apparatus of the present invention to perforate a wellbore casing.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A fragmenting perforating gun for use in a wellbore casing, comprising:
a body; at least one explosive charge; a trigger; a depth correlation device; a detonator cord; and a detonator,
wherein the explosive charge, the trigger, the depth correlation device, detonator cord, and detonator are contained in the body,
wherein the depth correlation device is programed to activate the trigger at a certain pre-set variable, and
wherein the trigger activates the detonator, and in turn, the detonator cord and the explosive charge.
2 . The fragmenting perforating gun of claim 1 , wherein the depth correlation device comprises a collar locator.
3 . The fragmenting perforating gun of claim 1 , wherein the depth correlation device comprises a timer.
4 . The fragmenting perforating gun of claim 1 , wherein the depth correlation device comprises video/photo recognition.
5 . The fragmenting perforating gun of claim 1 , wherein the explosive charge creates perforations in the wellbore casing when detonated.
6 . The fragmenting perforating gun of claim 1 , wherein the body, the explosive charge, the trigger, the depth correlation device, the detonator cord, and the detonator are each comprised of materials that are acid soluble.
7 . The fragmenting perforating gun of claim 1 , wherein the body, the explosive charge, the trigger, the depth correlation device, the detonator cord, and the detonator are each comprised of materials that are fragmentable.
8 . The fragmenting perforating gun of claim 1 , wherein the body, the explosive charge, the trigger, the depth correlation device, the detonator cord, and the detonator are each comprised of materials that are acid soluble and/or fragmentable.
9 . The fragmenting perforating gun of claim 1 , wherein the body, the explosive charge, the trigger, the depth correlation device, the detonator cord, and the detonator are comprised of materials that are intended to not obstruct flow through the perforations after detonation.
10 . The fragmenting perforating gun of claim 1 , wherein the explosive charge comprises a series of charges.
11 . A method for using the device of claim 1 for use in a wellbore casing, comprising the steps of:
programming the depth correlation device to activate the trigger at a certain pre-set variable; and
inserting the body into the wellbore casing,
wherein the trigger activates the detonator, the detonator cord, and the explosive charge at the pre-set variable.
12 . A method for perforating a wellbore casing, the method being implemented by a fragmenting perforating gun body that contains an explosive charge, a trigger, a depth correlation device, a detonator cord, and a detonator, the method comprising the steps of:
programming the depth correlation device to activate the trigger at a certain pre-set variable; and inserting the fragmenting perforating gun body into the wellbore casing,
wherein the trigger activates the detonator, the detonator cord, and the explosive charge at the pre-set variable.
13 . A fragmenting perforating gun body for use in a wellbore casing, comprising:
an explosive charge; a trigger; a depth correlation device; a detonator cord; and a detonator,
wherein the depth correlation device is programed to activate the trigger at a certain pre-set variable, and
wherein the trigger activates the detonator, and in turn, the explosive charge.
14 . The fragmenting perforating gun body of claim 13 , wherein the explosive charge creates perforations in the wellbore casing when detonated.
15 . The fragmenting perforating gun body of claim 13 , wherein the body, the explosive charge, the trigger, the depth correlation device, the detonator cord, and the detonator are each comprised of materials that are acid soluble.
16 . The fragmenting perforating gun body of claim 13 , wherein the body, the explosive charge, the trigger, the depth correlation device, the detonator cord, and the detonator are each comprised of materials that are fragmentable.
17 . The fragmenting perforating gun body of claim 13 , wherein the body, the explosive charge, the trigger, the depth correlation device, the detonator cord, and the detonator are each comprised of materials that are acid soluble and/or fragmentable.
18 . The fragmenting perforating gun body of claim 13 , wherein the body, the explosive charge, the trigger, the depth correlation device, the detonator cord, and the detonator are comprised of materials that are intended to not obstruct flow through the perforations after detonation.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
