Abstract

A mobile barrier having a base portion and at least one elongated posts extending upwardly therefrom. The base portion having lifting channels extending perpendicular from a length of the base (e.g., elongated sides) and creating a much longer contact point between the base and the prongs of the lifting mechanism. The base is also reinforced above the lifting channels to ensure that the base can handle the additional stresses required to lift the barrier. In some embodiments, the lifting channels have a reduced height to only receive low profile prongs from a low profile lifting mechanism. Some embodiments include post caps configured to house one or more sensors. The post caps are also configured to detach from the posts when impacts by a vehicle and/or the ground surface to expose the beveled edges of the free ends of the posts and allow said edges to pierce the ground surface.

2 . The mobile barrier of claim 1 , further comprising at least one stabilizer foot affixed to the bottom surface of the base, wherein the at least one stabilizer foot is configured to extend downwardly from the bottom surface of the base toward the ground surface.

3 . The mobile barrier of claim 2 , wherein the at least one stabilizer foot comprises at least a portion of a perimeter having a pointed edge, the portion of the perimeter configured to dig into the ground surface, whereby when the vehicle applies a force to the mobile barrier, the base is prevented from translating across the ground surface.

4 . The mobile barrier of claim 1 , further comprising at least one lifting channel cover configured to be removably coupled to the base, wherein the at least one lifting channel cover is disposed about at least one opening of the first lifting channel, the second lifting channel, or both, whereby when the at least one channel cover is removably coupled to the base, a top surface of the at least one lifting channel cover is flush with the top surface of the base.

6 . The mobile barrier of claim 5 , wherein the outer perimeter of the first lifting channel, the second lifting channel, or both comes to a pointed edge, and wherein when the vehicle applies the force to the mobile barrier, the mobile barrier topples and the outer perimeter of the first lifting channel, the second lifting channel, or both pierces an underside of the vehicle, whereby the outer perimeter of the first lifting channel, the second lifting channel, or both lodges within the vehicle, thereby anchoring the vehicle to the mobile barrier, preventing additional translation of the vehicle past the mobile barrier.

7 . The mobile barrier of claim 1 , further comprising a post cap configured to be selectively coupled to the free end of the at least one post, wherein the post cap is configured to cover the at least one tip edge, whereby when the mobile barrier begins to topple, the post cap is configured to detach from the free end of the at least one post, thereby exposing the at least one tip edge of the at least one post.

8 . The mobile barrier of claim 1 , wherein the first lifting channel, the second lifting channel, or both are configured to only receive a low profile prong of a low profile lifting mechanism.

9 . The mobile barrier of claim 1 , wherein the at least one post further comprises at least one channel.
