Abstract

Apparatuses, systems, methods, and computer program products for carbon dioxide based ventilation monitoring are described. An apparatus may include a carbon dioxide sensor, a processor, and/or a memory storing computer program code executable by the processor to perform operations. An operation may include interpolating a ventilation metric for an environment of a carbon dioxide sensor based at least partially on data from the carbon dioxide sensor using carbon dioxide as a proxy for ventilation. An operation may include performing a predefined action based on a ventilation metric.

Claims

What is claimed is:

         1 . An apparatus, comprising:
a carbon dioxide sensor; a processor; and a memory storing computer program code executable by the processor to perform operations, the operations comprising:
interpolating a ventilation metric for an environment of the carbon dioxide sensor based at least partially on data from the carbon dioxide sensor using carbon dioxide as a proxy for ventilation; and
performing a predefined action based on the ventilation metric.

2 . The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising one or more image sensors, wherein the operations further comprise recognizing a visual representation of the data from the carbon dioxide sensor based on image data of the carbon dioxide sensor from the one or more optical sensors using artificial intelligence image recognition.

3 . The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising one or more location sensors, wherein the operations further comprise tracking one or more occupants in the environment based on data from the one or more location sensors and the predefined action is performed based on both the ventilation metric and one or more of a location of and a total number of the tracked one or more occupants in the environment.

4 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the predefined action comprises electromechanically opening one or more of a vent and a window in fluid communication with the environment.

5 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the predefined action comprises enabling one or more of a fan and a filter in fluid communication with the environment.

6 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the predefined action comprises notifying a user, using one or more of an electronic display screen and an electronic speaker, a recommended number of people for the environment.

7 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the predefined action comprises notifying a user, using one or more of an electronic display screen and an electronic speaker, to reduce a number of people present in the environment.

8 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the predefined action is performed in response to the ventilation metric satisfying a threshold.

9 . The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the threshold is set for the ventilation metric relative to an interpolated level of the ventilation and a carbon dioxide level in the environment at the threshold is safe for humans.

10 . The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the threshold is selected based on an estimated transmission rate of one or more pathogens at the interpolated level of the ventilation associated with the ventilation metric at the selected threshold.

11 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the ventilation metric is further based at least partially on one or more of historical data for the environment, particulate metrics for the environment, and a geography associated with the environment.

         12 . An apparatus comprising:
means for determining a carbon dioxide level; means for interpolating a ventilation metric for an environment based at least partially on the determined carbon dioxide level using carbon dioxide as a proxy for ventilation; and means for performing a predefined action based on the ventilation metric.

13 . The apparatus of claim 12 , further comprising means for recognizing a visual representation of the carbon dioxide level.

14 . The apparatus of claim 12 , further comprising means for tracking one or more occupants in the environment, wherein the predefined action is performed based on both the ventilation metric and one or more of a location of and a total number of the tracked one or more occupants in the environment.

15 . The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the predefined action comprises electromechanically opening one or more of a vent and a window in fluid communication with the environment.

16 . The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the predefined action comprises enabling one or more of a fan and a filter in fluid communication with the environment.

17 . The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the predefined action comprises notifying a user, using one or more of an electronic display screen and an electronic speaker, a recommended number of people for the environment.

18 . The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the predefined action comprises notifying a user, using one or more of an electronic display screen and an electronic speaker, to reduce a number of people present in the environment.

         19 . A method comprising:
determining a carbon dioxide level; interpolating a ventilation metric for an environment based at least partially on the determined carbon dioxide level using carbon dioxide as a proxy for ventilation; and performing a predefined action based on the ventilation metric.

20 . The method of claim 19 , further comprising tracking one or more occupants in the environment, wherein the predefined action is performed based on both the ventilation metric and one or more of a location of and a total number of the tracked one or more occupants in the environment.
