Abstract

An apparatus acquires an image by reading a document, extracts a plurality of regions having a predetermined attribute from the acquired image, determines information about a registered document most similar to the acquired image from among information about a plurality of registered documents stored in a storage unit with use of positional information about the extracted plurality of regions, selects a processing target region in the acquired image based on a position of a processing target region previously specified with respect to the determined information about the most similar registered document, performs character recognition processing on the selected processing target region, and displays text data obtained by the character recognition processing.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . An information processing apparatus comprising:
 one or more memories that store programs; and   one or more processors that execute the programs to:   display a scanned image on a display; and   receive designation of areas in the displayed scanned image, wherein different characters, each being for a different one of the designated areas, are added within the scanned image,   wherein based on character strings included in areas which, in another scanned image, correspond to the designated areas, a file name of a file including said another scanned image is set.   
     
     
         2 . The information processing apparatus according to  claim 1 ,
 wherein the different characters are different numbers.   
     
     
         3 . The information processing apparatus according to  claim 1 ,
 wherein, with and within the scanned image, a character which is, among the different characters, for one of the designated areas is displayed with another character which is, among the different characters, for another of the designated areas.   
     
     
         4 . The information processing apparatus according to  claim 1 ,
 wherein, based on reception of designation of each one of the areas, one of the different characters for the each one of the designated areas is added within the scanned image.   
     
     
         5 . The information processing apparatus according to  claim 1 ,
 wherein the character strings used for setting the file name include results of character recognition processing on the areas which, in said another scanned image, correspond to the designated areas.   
     
     
         6 . The information processing apparatus according to  claim 1 ,
 wherein the character strings are displayed on the display in a manner such that a different one of the character strings is displayed based on reception of the designation of a corresponding one of the areas.   
     
     
         7 . The information processing apparatus according to  claim 1 ,
 wherein position information of the designated areas is registered and the file name is set based on the registered position information of the designated areas.   
     
     
         8 . The information processing apparatus according to  claim 1 ,
 wherein the one or more processors further execute the programs to:   add, within the scanned image, the different characters each being for the different one of the designated areas.   
     
     
         9 . The information processing apparatus according to  claim 1 ,
 wherein the one or more processors further execute the programs to:   set, based on the character strings included in the areas which, in said another scanned image, correspond to the designated areas, the file name of the file including said another scanned image.   
     
     
         10 . The information processing apparatus according to  claim 1 ,
 wherein the character strings which include results of character recognition processing on the designated areas are displayed, and   wherein one of the displayed character strings including a result of the character recognition processing on one of the designated areas corresponds to one of the different characters for the one of the designated areas.   
     
     
         11 . The information processing apparatus according to  claim 1 ,
 wherein the scanned image is an image obtained by scanning a document.   
     
     
         12 . An information processing apparatus comprising:
 one or more memories that store programs; and   one or more processors that execute the programs to:   display a scanned image on a display; and   receive designation of a first area and a second area in the displayed scanned image, wherein a first character is added within the scanned image for the designated first area and a second character is added within the scanned image for the designated second area,   wherein, based on character strings included in areas which, in another scanned image, correspond to the designated first area and the designated second area, a file name of a file including said another scanned image is set.   
     
     
         13 . A method comprising:
 displaying a scanned image on a display; and   receiving designation of areas in the displayed scanned image, wherein different characters, each being for a different one of the designated areas, are added within the scanned image,   wherein based on character strings included in areas which, in another scanned image, correspond to the designated areas, a file name of a file including said another scanned image is set.   
     
     
         14 . The method according to  claim 13 ,
 wherein the different characters are different numbers.   
     
     
         15 . The method according to  claim 13 ,
 wherein, with and within the scanned image, a character which is, among the different characters, for one of the designated areas is displayed with another character which is, among the different characters, for another of the designated areas.   
     
     
         16 . The method according to  claim 13 ,
 wherein, based on reception of designation of each one of the areas, one of the different characters for the each one of the designated areas is added within the scanned image.   
     
     
         17 . The method according to  claim 13 ,
 wherein the character strings used for setting the file name include results of character recognition processing on the areas which, in said another scanned image correspond to the designated areas.   
     
     
         18 . The method according to  claim 13 ,
 wherein the character strings are displayed on the display in a manner such that a different one of the character strings is displayed based on reception of the designation of a corresponding one of the areas.   
     
     
         19 . The method according to  claim 13 ,
 wherein position information of the designated areas is registered and the file name is set based on the registered position information of the designated areas.   
     
     
         20 . The method according to  claim 13  further comprising:
 adding, within the scanned image, the different characters each being for the different one of the designated areas. 
 
     
     
         21 . The method according to  claim 13  further comprising:
 setting, based on the character strings included in the areas which, in said another scanned image, correspond to the designated areas, the file name of the file including said another scanned image. 
 
     
     
         22 . The method according to  claim 13 ,
 wherein the character strings which include results of character recognition processing on the designated areas are displayed, and   wherein one of the displayed character strings including a result of the character recognition processing on one of the designated areas corresponds to one of the different characters for the one of the designated areas.   
     
     
         23 . The method according to  claim 13 ,
 wherein the scanned image is an image obtained by scanning a document.   
     
     
         24 . A method comprising:
 displaying a scanned image on a display; and   receiving designation of a first area and a second area in the displayed scanned image, wherein a first character is added within the scanned image for the designated first area and a second character is added within the scanned image for the designated second area,   wherein, based on character strings included in areas which, in another scanned image, correspond to the designated first area and the designated second area, a file name of a file including said another scanned image is set.   
     
     
         25 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing one or more programs that, when executed by a computer, cause the computer to:
 display a scanned image on a display; and   receive designation of areas in the displayed scanned image, wherein different characters, each being for a different one of the designated areas, are added within the scanned image;   wherein based on character strings included in areas which, in another scanned image, correspond to the designated areas, a file name of a file including said another scanned image is set.   
     
     
         26 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium according to  claim 25 ,
 wherein the different characters are different numbers.   
     
     
         27 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium according to  claim 25 ,
 wherein, with and within the scanned image, a character which is, among the different characters, for one of the designated areas is displayed with another character which is, among the different characters, for another of the designated areas.   
     
     
         28 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium according to  claim 25 ,
 wherein, based on reception of designation of each one of the areas, one of the different characters for the each one of the designated areas is added within the scanned image.

 wherein the character strings used for setting the file name include results of character recognition processing on the areas which, in said another scanned image, correspond to the designated areas.

 wherein the character strings are displayed on the display in a manner such that a different one of the character strings is displayed based on reception of the designation of a corresponding one of the areas.

 wherein position information of the designated areas is registered and the file name is set based on the registered position information of the designated areas.

 wherein the one or more programs further cause the computer to:   add, within the scanned image, the different characters each being for the different one of the designated areas.

 wherein the one or more programs further cause the computer to:   set, based on the character strings included in the areas which, in said another scanned image, correspond to the designated areas, the file name of the file including said another scanned image.   
     
     
         34 . The non-transitory computer readable storage medium according to  claim 25 ,
 wherein the character strings which include results of character recognition processing on the designated areas are displayed, and   wherein one of the displayed character strings including a result of the character recognition processing on one of the designated areas corresponds to one of the different characters for the one of the designated areas.   
     
     
         35 . The non-transitory computer readable storage medium according to  claim 25 ,
 wherein the scanned image is an image obtained by scanning a document.   
     
     
         36 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing one or more programs that, when executed by a computer, causes the computer to:
 display a scanned image on a display; and   receive designation of a first area and a second area in the displayed scanned image, wherein a first character is added within the scanned image for the designated first area and a second character is added within the scanned image for the designated second area,   wherein, based on character strings included in areas which, in another scanned image, correspond to the designated first area and the designated second area, a file name of a file including said another scanned image is set.   
     
     
         37 . An information processing apparatus comprising:
 one or more memories that store programs; and   one or more processors that execute the programs to:   display a scanned image on a display; and   receive designation of areas in the displayed scanned image, wherein different characters, each being for a different one of the designated areas, are displayed with and within the scanned image correspondingly for each of the designated areas,   wherein based on character strings included in areas which, in another scanned image, correspond to the designated areas, a file name of a file including said another scanned image is set.
