Abstract
According to one embodiment, a method, computer system, and computer program product for explaining discourse is provided. The embodiment may include identifying one or more skill levels for one or more users. The embodiment may also include identifying a complexity level corresponding to a piece of content. The embodiment may further include determining an explanation level for the piece of content based on the complexity level of the piece of content and a target skill level from the one or more skill levels. The embodiment may also include generating an explanation for the piece of content according to the explanation level. The embodiment may further include providing the explanation to a target user.

1 . A processor-implemented method, the method comprising:
identifying one or more skill levels for one or more users; identifying a complexity level corresponding to a piece of content; determining an explanation level for the piece of content based on the complexity level of the piece of content and a target skill level from the one or more skill levels; generating an explanation for the piece of content according to the explanation level; and providing the explanation to a target user.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining an explanation level further comprises:
determining an explainability of the piece of content based on the complexity level of the piece of content.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the content comprises a message in a chat service.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying the complexity level is performed using natural language processing.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the target skill level and the complexity level each correspond to a particular subject.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein generating an explanation includes selecting an explanation from a preexisting repository of explanations.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein generating an explanation includes natural language generation.
8 . A computer system, the computer system comprising:
one or more processors, one or more computer-readable memories, one or more computer-readable tangible storage medium, and program instructions stored on at least one of the one or more tangible storage medium for execution by at least one of the one or more processors via at least one of the one or more memories, wherein the computer system is capable of performing a method comprising: identifying one or more skill levels for one or more users; identifying a complexity level corresponding to a piece of content; determining an explanation level for the piece of content based on the complexity level of the piece of content and a target skill level from the one or more skill levels; generating an explanation for the piece of content according to the explanation level; and providing the explanation to a target user.
9 . The computer system of claim 8 , wherein determining an explanation level further comprises:
determining an explainability of the piece of content based on the complexity level of the piece of content.
10 . The computer system of claim 8 , wherein the content comprises a message in a chat service.
11 . The computer system of claim 8 , wherein identifying the complexity level is performed using natural language processing.
12 . The computer system of claim 8 , wherein the target skill level and the complexity level each correspond to a particular subject.
13 . The computer system of claim 8 , wherein generating an explanation includes selecting an explanation from a preexisting repository of explanations.
14 . The computer system of claim 8 , wherein generating an explanation includes natural language generation.
15 . A computer program product, the computer program product comprising:
one or more computer-readable tangible storage medium and program instructions stored on at least one of the one or more tangible storage medium, the program instructions executable by a processor capable of performing a method, the method comprising: identifying one or more skill levels for one or more users; identifying a complexity level corresponding to a piece of content; determining an explanation level for the piece of content based on the complexity level of the piece of content and a target skill level from the one or more skill levels; generating an explanation for the piece of content according to the explanation level; and providing the explanation to a target user.
16 . The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein determining an explanation level further comprises:
determining an explainability of the piece of content based on the complexity level of the piece of content.
17 . The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein the content comprises a message in a chat servicer.
18 . The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein identifying the complexity level is performed using natural language processing.
