Abstract

The present invention relates to a novel pocket blanket device. The device is an improved blanket having an elastic pocket that can be placed over the bottom of a mattress to secure a blanket directly to the mattress. The device comprises a body component comprising a single body of material with an elastic pocket positioned along a bottom edge to be placed over the bottom of a mattress. The elastic pocket maintains the blanket in a secure position without worry of it being pulled too far to one side or pulled off the bed entirely. The blanket device also comprises multiple split sides which flare out or extend past the pocket which allows the blanket to lay flat and square on a bed in addition to providing extra blanket coverage for the users.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . A pocket blanket device comprising:
a body component; and a pocket, wherein the pocket is placed over a bottom of a mattress to secure the body component directly to the mattress, and further wherein the pocket maintains the body component in a secure position on the mattress.

2 . The pocket blanket device of claim 1 , wherein the body component is a flat portion on which a user rests or is used as a cover.

3 . The pocket blanket device of claim 2 , wherein the body component is comprised of an upper surface area and a lower surface area and defines a free end and a mattress fitting end.

4 . The pocket blanket device of claim 3 , wherein the pocket is formed across a width of the mattress fitting end.

5 . The pocket blanket device of claim 4 , wherein the pocket is formed integrally with the body component.

6 . The pocket blanket device of claim 5 , wherein once in place, the pocket overlies an end portion of the mattress.

7 . The pocket blanket device of claim 6 , wherein the pocket is defined along a horizontal seam line and opposing end seam lines on each end of the pocket.

8 . The pocket blanket device of claim 7 , wherein the pocket comprises elastic elements sewn along its edges.

9 . The pocket blanket device of claim 8 , wherein a series of expandable gathers are integrally formed along the pocket when it is first sewn, and the series of expandable gathers function to expand along with the elastic elements.

10 . The pocket blanket device of claim 9 , wherein when the pocket is fitted over an end of a mattress, the elastic elements and the series of the expandable gathers are initially expanded so as to fit the pocket over the mattress end.

11 . The pocket blanket device of claim 10 , wherein when the pocket is then released, the elastic elements will contract about the mattress end to produce a tight fit, and the series of the expandable gathers will assume an expanded form, without becoming excessively tensioned.

12 . The pocket blanket device of claim 11 , wherein the body component comprises opposing split sides which extend a length past the pocket and allow the body component to lay flat and square on a bed.

         13 . A pocket blanket device comprising:
a body component comprising upper and lower surface areas and defining a free end and a mattress fitting end; and a pocket formed integrally with the body component and formed across a width of the mattress fitting end; wherein the pocket is placed over a bottom of a mattress to secure the body component directly to the mattress; wherein once in place, the pocket overlies an end portion of the mattress; wherein the pocket comprises elastic elements sewn along its edges; and further wherein a series of expandable gathers are integrally formed along the pocket when it is first sewn, and these gathers function to expand along with the elastic elements to secure the body component to the mattress.

14 . The pocket blanket device of claim 13 further comprising a plurality of indicia.

15 . The pocket blanket device of claim 13 , wherein the pocket is defined along a horizontal seam line and opposing end seam lines on each end of the pocket.

16 . The pocket blanket device of claim 13 , wherein when the pocket is fitted over an end of a mattress, the elastic elements and the series of the expandable gathers are initially expanded so as to fit the pocket over the mattress end.

17 . The pocket blanket device of claim 13 , wherein when the pocket is then released, the elastic elements will contract about the mattress end to produce a tight fit, and the series of the expandable gathers will assume an expanded form, without becoming excessively tensioned.

18 . The pocket blanket device of claim 13 , wherein the body component comprises opposing split sides which extend a length past the pocket and allow the body component to lay flat and square on a bed.

19 . The pocket blanket device of claim 13 , wherein the body component is a flat portion on which a user rests or is used as a cover.

20 . A method of securing a blanket to a bed for use, the method comprising the following steps:
providing a pocket blanket device comprising a body component with an elastic, expandable pocket positioned along a bottom edge; choosing a specific style and size of the pocket blanket device, depending on the needs and/or wants of a user; positioning the pocket blanket device on a bed with the elastic pocket secured around a bottom of the mattress; and using the pocket blanket device while sleeping without worry of the device moving out of place during use.
