Abstract

An interchangeable modular mattress is provided. The modular mattress has a first unit and a second unit. A securing means may temporarily secure the first unit to the second unit. The first unit rests on a bed frame, such as a hospital bed frame, and the second unit is secured on top of the first unit. The second unit is replaceable with an alternative second unit which may have a different function or feature, but is generally the same size and shape of the replaced second unit. Firm sides of the first unit reduce the chances of a person accidently falling off the mattress.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
I claim:

         1 . A modular mattress comprising:
a first unit having a front, a back, a first side, a second side, a top and a bottom; a second unit having a front, a back, a first side, a second side, a top and a bottom; and wherein the first unit and the second unit are removably secured together via a securing mechanism.

2 . The modular mattress of claim 1 wherein the securing mechanism is a hook and loop fastener system.

3 . The modular mattress of claim 1 wherein the securing mechanism is a button.

4 . The modular mattress of claim 1 wherein the first side and the second side of the bottom of the first unit are tapered.

5 . The modular mattress of claim 1 wherein the first side and the second side of the first unit are firmer than the second unit.

6 . The modular mattress of claim 1 wherein the first unit has a central channel wherein the central channel of the first unit receives an extended ridge of the second unit.

7 . The modular mattress of claim 1 further comprising a coating added to the second unit wherein the coating protects the second unit.

8 . The modular mattress of claim 1 further comprising:
a sensor secured to the second unit wherein the sensor determines an environmental condition of the mattress.

9 . The modular mattress of claim 1 further comprising:
a control unit wherein the control unit is capable of controlling an environmental condition of the mattress.

         10 . A modular mattress comprising:
a first unit having a front, a back, a first side, a second side, a top and a bottom; a second unit having a front, a back, a first side, a second side, a top and a bottom; wherein the second unit has multiple independent components; and wherein the first unit and the second unit are removably secured together via a securing mechanism.

11 . The modular mattress of claim 10 wherein the securing mechanism is a hook and loop fastener system.

12 . The modular mattress of claim 10 wherein the securing mechanism is a button.

13 . The modular mattress of claim 10 wherein the first side and the second side of the bottom of the first unit are tapered.

14 . The modular mattress of claim 10 wherein the first side and the second side of the first unit are firmer than the second unit.

15 . The modular mattress of claim 10 wherein the first unit has a central channel wherein the central channel of the first unit receives an extended ridge of the second unit.

16 . The modular mattress of claim 10 further comprising a coating added to the second unit wherein the coating protects the second unit.

17 . The modular mattress of claim 10 further comprising:
a sensor secured to the second unit wherein the sensor determines an environmental condition of the mattress.

18 . The modular mattress of claim 10 further comprising:
a control unit wherein the control unit is capable of controlling an environmental condition of the mattress.

19 . The modular mattress of claim 10 wherein the multiple components of the second unit are not identical.
