Abstract
A container may have a base, a sidewall connected to the base, a bell connected to the sidewall, and a finish connected to the bell. The base may have strap ribs to resist deformation of the base. The sidewall may have recessed columns to resist bending, leaning, crumbling, and/or stretching. The strap ribs and recessed columns may vertically line up along a central axis of the container to communicate forces on the container vertically along the container to continuously resist deformation in the base and the sidewall.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 - 19 . (canceled)
20 . A plastic container comprising:
a base including
a plurality of strap ribs extending from a central portion of the base to a base perimeter about a longitudinal axis, and
a plurality of feet formed between the strap ribs and presenting a resting surface of the plastic container; and
a sidewall comprising a grip portion extending from the base to a label panel, the sidewall having a plurality of circumferentially positioned ribs, wherein each rib of the plurality of circumferentially positioned ribs includes a first depth portion that transitions in the circumferential direction to a second depth portion of lesser depth, and wherein at least three second depth portions are aligned in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis, wherein each first depth portion has a depth relative to the sidewall of at least 1.2 mm.
21 . The plastic container of claim 20 , wherein the base further comprises a gate centered on the longitudinal axis and a wall extending from the gate toward the resting surface.
22 . The plastic container of claim 21 , wherein the wall comprises a dome surrounding the gate which slopes more steeply toward the resting surface than a portion of the wall surrounding the dome.
23 . The plastic container of claim 20 , wherein the largest diameter of the base is greater by at least 1 mm than any other parallel diameter of the container.
24 . The plastic container of claim 20 , wherein each first depth portion has a depth relative to the sidewall of at least 1.5 mm.
25 . The plastic container of claim 20 , wherein each first depth portion has a depth relative to the sidewall of at least 1.7 mm.
26 . The plastic container of claim 20 , wherein each first depth portion has a depth relative to the sidewall of at least 2.0 mm.
27 . The plastic container of claim 26 , wherein each second depth portion has a depth relative to the sidewall of at least 1.3 mm.
28 . The plastic container of claim 26 , wherein each second depth portion has a depth relative to the sidewall of at least 1.7 mm.
29 . The plastic container of claim 20 , wherein a ratio of the depths of the first depth portion to the second depth portion for each rib of the plurality of circumferentially positioned ribs is at least 2:1.
30 . The plastic container of claim 20 , wherein a ratio of the depths of the first depth portion to the second depth portion for each rib of the plurality of circumferentially positioned ribs is at least 4:1.
31 . The plastic container of claim 20 , wherein each strap rib of the plurality of strap ribs defines a strap rib surface extending to the sidewall with a positive slope relative to the resting surface, and wherein the positive slope angle at a point tangent to the strap rib surface is at least 30 degrees.
32 . The plastic container of claim 31 , wherein the positive slope angle at a point tangent to the strap rib surface is at least 45 degrees.
33 . The plastic container of claim 32 , wherein the positive slope angle at a point tangent to the strap rib surface is at least 55 degrees.
34 . The plastic container of claim 20 , wherein each strap rib of the plurality of strap ribs defines a strap rib surface extending to the sidewall with a positive slope relative to the resting surface and with a positive slope radius, and wherein the positive slope radius at a point along the strap rib surface is from 30 mm to 70 mm.
35 . The plastic container of claim 34 , wherein a ratio of the positive slope radius to a diameter of the sidewall is in the range from 5:1 to 1:5.
36 . The plastic container of claim 20 , wherein each strap rib of the plurality of strap ribs defines a strap rib surface extending to the sidewall with a positive slope relative to the resting surface and with a positive slope radius, and wherein, at a distance from the resting surface parallel to the longitudinal axis, the positive slope radius changes from a first value to a second value different than the first value, and wherein the distance is between 10 mm and 30 mm.
37 . The plastic container of claim 36 , wherein a ratio of the distance to the overall container height is 1:7 or greater.
38 . The plastic container of claim 20 , wherein each strap rib of the plurality of strap ribs defines a strap rib surface extending to the sidewall with a positive slope relative to the resting surface, and wherein the strap rib surface transitions to the sidewall at a distance from the resting surface parallel to the longitudinal axis of greater than 15 mm.
39 . The plastic container of claim 38 , wherein the distance is greater than 25 mm.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
