Abstract
A cooking backsplash assembly includes a pair of mounts that is each attachable to a vertical support surface at a location positioned over a cooking stove. A roller is positionable in the mounts when the mounts are mounted to the vertical support surface. The roller is biased to rotate in a first direction and the roller is urgeable to rotate in a second direction. A screen is wrapped around the roller when the roller rotates in the first direction. The screen is urgeable downwardly to urge the roller to rotate in the second direction to facilitate the screen to cover a wall located behind the cooking stove. The screen is comprised of a fluid impermeable material to protect the wall from cooking splatter. Additionally, the screen is comprised of a heat resistant material to resist being burned by heat from the cooking stove.

1 . A cooking backsplash assembly for protecting a wall behind a stove from cooking splatter, said assembly comprising:
a pair of mounts, each of said mounts being attachable to a vertical support surface at a location positioned over a cooking stove; a roller being positionable in said mounts when said mounts are mounted to the vertical support surface such that said roller is oriented to extend along a horizontal axis, said roller being biased to rotate in a first direction, said roller being urgeable to rotate in a second direction; and a screen being wrapped around said roller when said roller rotates in said first direction, said screen being urgeable downwardly to urge said roller to rotate in said second direction wherein said screen is configured to cover a wall located behind the cooking stove, said screen being comprised of a fluid impermeable material wherein said screen is configured to protect the wall from cooking splatter, said screen being comprised of a heat resistant material wherein said screen is configured to resist being burned by heat from the cooking stove.

The assembly according to claim 1 , wherein each of said mounts includes a cup portion and a pair of wing portions each extending laterally away from said cup portion, said cup portion having a front wall and a perimeter wall, said wing portions extending away from said perimeter wall in opposite directions from each other, a respective one of said wing portions of each of said mounts having a first hole extending through said respective wing portion, a respective one of said wing portions of each of said mounts having a second hole extending through said respective wing portion, said second hole having a first portion having a diameter being greater than a diameter of a second portion.
3 . The assembly according to claim 2 , wherein:
said pair of mounts includes a first mount and a second mount; said front wall of said cup portion of said first mount has an aperture extending through front wall; said cup portion of said second mount has an opening extending through said front wall and said perimeter wall of said cup portion of said second mount such that an entry into said opening is defined on said perimeter wall of said cup portion of said second mount.

The assembly according to claim 3 , wherein said opening has a bounding edge, said bounding edge having a rear side extending along a straight line, said rear side being opposed with said entry into said opening, said each of said wing portions of each of said mounts lying against the vertical support surface having said front wall of said cup portion being spaced from the vertical support surface.

The assembly according to claim 2 , further comprising a plurality of fasteners, each of said fasteners being extendable through a respective one of said first hole and said second hole in a respective one of said wing portions of a respective one of said mounts and engaging the vertical support surface for attaching said mounts to the vertical support surface.
6 . The assembly according to claim 4 , wherein:
said roller has a first end and a second end, said roller being elongated between said first end and said second end, said roller having a first pin extending away from said first end, said roller having a second pin being rotatably disposed on said second end having said second pin extending away from said second end, said second pin being flattened adjacent to a distal end of said second pin, said roller being rotatable in said first direction or said second direction around said second pin; said first pin extends through said aperture in said front wall of said cup portion of said first mount such that said first pin is rotatable in said aperture; and said second pin is extendable through said entry into said opening in said front wall of said cup portion of said second mount having said second pin lying flat against said rear side of said bounding edge of said opening such that said second pin is inhibited from rotating in said opening.
7 . The assembly according to claim 1 , wherein said roller rotates in said second direction while said screen is being pulled downwardly, said roller locking into place when said screen is ceased being pulled downwardly wherein said roller is configured to retain said screen in front of the wall behind the cooking stove, said roller being unlocked thereby facilitating said roller to be biased to rotate in said first direction when said screen is pulled downwardly when said roller is locked into place wherein said roller is configured to expose the wall behind the cooking stove.
8 . The assembly according to claim 1 , further comprising a member being coupled to a lower edge of said screen wherein said member is configured to enhance gripping said screen for urging said screen downwardly, said member extending along a full length of said lower edge.
9 . A cooking backsplash assembly for protecting a wall behind a stove from cooking splatter, said assembly comprising:
a pair of mounts, each of said mounts being attachable to a vertical support surface at a location positioned over a cooking stove, each of said mounts including a cup portion and a pair of wing portions each extending laterally away from said cup portion, said cup portion having a front wall and a perimeter wall, said wing portions extending away from said perimeter wall in opposite directions from each other, a respective one of said wing portions of each of said mounts having a first hole extending through said respective wing portion, a respective one of said wing portions of each of said mounts having a second hole extending through said respective wing portion, said second hole having a first portion having a diameter being greater than a diameter of a second portion, said pair of mounts including a first mount and a second mount, said front wall of said cup portion of said first mount having an aperture extending through front wall, said cup portion of said second mount having an opening extending through said front wall and said perimeter wall of said cup portion of said second mount such that an entry into said opening is defined on said perimeter wall of said cup portion of said second mount, said opening having a bounding edge, said bounding edge having a rear side extending along a straight line, said rear side being opposed with said entry into said opening, said each of said wing portions of each of said mounts lying against the vertical support surface having said front wall of said cup portion being spaced from the vertical support surface; a plurality of fasteners, each of said fasteners being extendable through a respective one of said first hole and said second hole in a respective one of said wing portions of a respective one of said mounts and engaging the vertical support surface for attaching said mounts to the vertical support surface; a roller being positionable in said mounts when said mounts are mounted to the vertical support surface such that said roller is oriented to extend along a horizontal axis, said roller being biased to rotate in a first direction, said roller being urgeable to rotate in a second direction, said roller having a first end and a second end, said roller being elongated between said first end and said second end, said roller having a first pin extending away from said first end, said roller having a second pin being rotatably disposed on said second end having said second pin extending away from said second end, said second pin being flattened adjacent to a distal end of said second pin, said roller being rotatable in said first direction or said second direction around said second pin, said first pin extending through said aperture in said front wall of said cup portion of said first mount such that said first pin is rotatable in said aperture, said second pin being extendable through said entry into said opening in said front wall of said cup portion of said second mount having said second pin lying flat against said rear side of said bounding edge of said opening such that said second pin is inhibited from rotating in said opening; and a screen being wrapped around said roller when said roller rotates in said first direction, said screen being urgeable downwardly to urge said roller to rotate in said second direction wherein said screen is configured to cover a wall located behind the cooking stove, said screen being comprised of a fluid impermeable material wherein said screen is configured to protect the wall from cooking splatter, said screen being comprised of a heat resistant material wherein said screen is configured to resist being burned by heat from the cooking stove, said roller rotating in said second direction while said screen is being pulled downwardly, said roller locking into place when said screen is ceased being pulled downwardly wherein said roller is configured to retain said screen in front of the wall behind the cooking stove, said roller being unlocked thereby facilitating said roller to be biased to rotate in said first direction when said screen is pulled downwardly when said roller is locked into place wherein said roller is configured to expose the wall behind the cooking stove; and a member being coupled to a lower edge of said screen wherein said member is configured to enhance gripping said screen for urging said screen downwardly, said member extending along a full length of said lower edge.
10 . A cooking backsplash system for protecting a wall behind a stove from cooking splatter, said system comprising:
a cooking stove being configured to cook food; a wall being positioned behind said cooking stove; a pair of mounts, each of said mounts being attachable to a vertical support surface at a location positioned over said cooking stove, each of said mounts including a cup portion and a pair of wing portions each extending laterally away from said cup portion, said cup portion having a front wall and a perimeter wall, said wing portions extending away from said perimeter wall in opposite directions from each other, a respective one of said wing portions of each of said mounts having a first hole extending through said respective wing portion, a respective one of said wing portions of each of said mounts having a second hole extending through said respective wing portion, said second hole having a first portion having a diameter being greater than a diameter of a second portion, said pair of mounts including a first mount and a second mount, said front wall of said cup portion of said first mount having an aperture extending through front wall, said cup portion of said second mount having an opening extending through said front wall and said perimeter wall of said cup portion of said second mount such that an entry into said opening is defined on said perimeter wall of said cup portion of said second mount, said opening having a bounding edge, said bounding edge having a rear side extending along a straight line, said rear side being opposed with said entry into said opening, said each of said wing portions of each of said mounts lying against the vertical support surface having said front wall of said cup portion being spaced from the vertical support surface; a plurality of fasteners, each of said fasteners being extendable through a respective one of said first hole and said second hole in a respective one of said wing portions of a respective one of said mounts and engaging the vertical support surface for attaching said mounts to the vertical support surface; a roller being positionable in said mounts when said mounts are mounted to the vertical support surface such that said roller is oriented to extend along a horizontal axis, said roller being biased to rotate in a first direction, said roller being urgeable to rotate in a second direction, said roller having a first end and a second end, said roller being elongated between said first end and said second end, said roller having a first pin extending away from said first end, said roller having a second pin being rotatably disposed on said second end having said second pin extending away from said second end, said second pin being flattened adjacent to a distal end of said second pin, said roller being rotatable in said first direction or said second direction around said second pin, said first pin extending through said aperture in said front wall of said cup portion of said first mount such that said first pin is rotatable in said aperture, said second pin being extendable through said entry into said opening in said front wall of said cup portion of said second mount having said second pin lying flat against said rear side of said bounding edge of said opening such that said second pin is inhibited from rotating in said opening; and a screen being wrapped around said roller when said roller rotates in said first direction, said screen being urgeable downwardly to urge said roller to rotate in said second direction thereby facilitating said screen to cover said wall located behind said cooking stove, said screen being comprised of a fluid impermeable material to protect said wall from cooking splatter, said screen being comprised of a heat resistant material to resist being burned by heat from said cooking stove, said roller rotating in said second direction while said screen is being pulled downwardly, said roller locking into place when said screen is ceased being pulled downwardly to retain said screen in front of said wall behind said cooking stove, said roller being unlocked thereby facilitating said roller to be biased to rotate in said first direction when said screen is pulled downwardly when said roller is locked into place to expose said wall behind said cooking stove; and a member being coupled to a lower edge of said screen wherein said member is configured to enhance gripping said screen for urging said screen downwardly, said member extending along a full length of said lower edge.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
