Abstract
The present invention is directed toward an article of footwear that effectively reduces rotation the article of footwear during a golf swing. The article of footwear includes an upper and a sole structure, where the sole structure is comprised of a midsole, a first outsole, and a second outsole. The article of footwear includes a forefoot region, a midfoot region, and a hindfoot region. The first outsole is coupled to both the midsole and the second outsole, while the second outsole is disposed between the midsole and the first outsole. The second outsole includes a first series of lugs disposed along a lateral edge of the second outsole and extending through the first outsole in the forefoot region, and a second series of lugs disposed along a medial edge of the second outsole and extending through the first outsole in the hindfoot region.

2 . An article of footwear comprising:
an upper defining a cavity; a midsole coupled to the upper; an outsole with a top surface and a bottom surface, a lateral side and a medial side, the top surface being coupled to the midsole, the outsole further comprising a forefoot region, a midfoot region, and a hindfoot region; a series of first lugs disposed along a lateral edge of the outsole lateral side, each first lug having a first shape and comprising a front side that faces the lateral edge of the outsole and a rear side that opposes the front side, wherein the front side has a wider dimension than the rear side such that lengthwise sides of each first lug taper inward from the front side to the rear side, and the first side of each first lug includes a channel that defines two separated sections at the front side of each first lug; and a series of second lugs disposed along one or more other portions of the outsole, wherein each second lug has a second shape that differs from the first shape.
3 . The article of footwear of claim 2 , wherein each of the first lugs has a wedge shape.
4 . The article of footwear of claim 2 , wherein each of the first lugs has a triangular shape.
5 . The article of footwear of claim 2 , wherein the first end of each first lug is disposed more proximate to the lateral edge of the outsole lateral side than the second end of each first lug.
6 . The article of footwear of claim 2 , wherein each first lug is disposed more proximate the lateral edge of the outsole lateral side than each second lug.
7 . The article of footwear of claim 2 , wherein the channel spans a length of each lug.
8 . The article of footwear of claim 7 , wherein the channel for each first lug decreases in dimension as the channel extends from the first side toward the second side.
9 . The article of footwear of claim 2 , wherein the first lugs are arranged along the lateral edge of the outsole at the forefoot region.
10 . The article of footwear of claim 9 , wherein the second lugs extend at locations distanced from second sides of the first lugs toward the medial side of the outsole at the forefoot region.
11 . The article of footwear of claim 2 , wherein the outsole further comprises:
a first outsole being coupled to the midsole, and a second outsole disposed between the midsole the first outsole.
12 . The article of footwear of claim 11 , wherein the first outsole layer comprises a thermoplastic polyurethane possessing a first durometer, and the second outsole layer comprises a thermoplastic polyurethane possessing a second durometer that is less than the first durometer.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
