Exhaust Vent Soot Guard Device

Abstract

The present invention relates to an exhaust vent soot guard device that prevents heat and soot from an exhaust vent from damaging the exterior of a building. The device is primarily comprised of a base plate, a hood, and at least one fastener. The base plate can be secured to the exterior of a building above an exhaust fan via the fastener, wherein the hood attaches to the base plate and is comprised of a first half and a second half that form an angle of less than 180 degrees. In this manner, the hood blocks heat and soot from damaging the building's exterior once it has exited the exhaust vent.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . An exhaust vent soot guard device comprising:
 a base plate; and   a hood attached to the base plate.   
     
     
         2 . The exhaust vent soot guard device of  claim 1 , wherein the base plate comprises a bend that forms a first angle that is less than 180 degrees. 
     
     
         3 . The exhaust vent soot guard device of  claim 1 , wherein the hood comprises a bend that forms a second angle that is less than 180 degrees. 
     
     
         4 . The exhaust vent soot guard device of  claim 1 , wherein each of the base plate and the hood are comprised of a sheet metal material. 
     
     
         5 . The exhaust vent soot guard device of  claim 4 , wherein each of the base plate and the hood are comprised of a stamped texture. 
     
     
         6 . The exhaust vent soot guard device of  claim 5 , wherein the stamped texture resembles a siding, a stucco, a stone or a brick material. 
     
     
         7 . The exhaust vent soot guard device of  claim 4 , wherein the sheet metal material is comprised of an alloy steel, a stainless steel, a carbon steel, a tool steel, a galvanized steel or an aluminum. 
     
     
         8 . An exhaust vent soot guard device comprising:
 a base plate comprised of an opening;   a hood comprised of a crease, wherein the hood attached to the base plate; and   a fastener.   
     
     
         9 . The exhaust vent soot guard device of  claim 8 , wherein the base plate and the hood are comprised of a heat-resistant plastic material. 
     
     
         10 . The exhaust vent soot guard device of  claim 9 , wherein the base plate and the hood are comprised of a molded texture. 
     
     
         11 . The exhaust vent soot guard device of  claim 10 , wherein the molded texture resembles a siding, a stucco, a stone or a brick material. 
     
     
         12 . The exhaust vent soot guard device of  claim 8  further comprised of an indicia. 
     
     
         13 . The exhaust vent soot guard device of  claim 12 , wherein the indicia is comprised of a pattern, a graphic, or a design. 
     
     
         14 . The exhaust vent soot guard device of  claim 13 , wherein the pattern, the graphic, or the design resembles an exterior finish material. 
     
     
         15 . The exhaust vent soot guard device of  claim 14 , wherein the exterior finish material is comprised of a siding, a stucco, a stone or a brick material. 
     
     
         16 . The exhaust vent soot guard device of  claim 8 , wherein the base plate removably attaches to the hood via the fastener. 
     
     
         17 . The exhaust vent soot guard device of  claim 16 , wherein the opening receives the fastener. 
     
     
         18 . An exhaust vent soot guard device comprising:
 a base plate comprised of an opening;   a hood comprised of a crease and a bottom surface comprised of a non-stick coating, the hood attached to the base plate; and   a fastener.   
     
     
         19 . The exhaust vent soot guard device of  claim 18 , wherein the non-stick coating is comprised of a PTFE coating. 
     
     
         20 . The exhaust vent soot guard device of  claim 18 , wherein the fastener is a bolt or a screw.
