Abstract

The present disclosure is generally directed towards a debris-reducing drain insert 90 for a drain. The debris-reducing drain insert 90 includes a battery to power a cutting component with at least one blade to cut debris as it travels down the drainpipe and prevent clogging of the drain. The debris-reducing drain insert 90 includes a drain cover with a seal such that when in a closed position water and debris cannot flow into the drain opening.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . A debris-reducing drain insert for a drain, comprising:
a cover component configured to cover a drain opening when in a closed position; a cutting component positioned below the cover and configured to be removably positionable within the drain opening, the cutting component comprising a plurality of cutting edges configured to cut debris; and a rechargeable power source configured to provide electrical power to the cutting component, wherein the cutting component moves when receiving the electrical power.

2 . The debris-reducing drain insert of claim 1 , wherein when the cover component is in an open position debris flows though the drain opening and into the cutting component.

3 . The debris-reducing drain insert of claim 1 , wherein when the cover component is in a closed position the drain is sealed and nothing flows into the cutting component.

4 . The debris-reducing drain insert of claim 1 , wherein the cover component comprises:
a plurality of lights configured to indicate a status of the debris-reducing drain insert; and a user display configured to receive an input or display the status to the user.

5 . The debris-reducing drain insert of claim 1 , further comprising a vertical shaft coupled to a bottom surface of the cover, wherein the cutting component rotates about the vertical shaft while the cover is stationary.

6 . The debris-reducing drain insert of claim 1 , further comprising at least one sensor configured to:
detect water flow through the drain opening; and activate the cutting component.

7 . The debris-reducing drain insert of claim 1 , wherein the power source is a battery.

8 . The debris-reducing drain insert of claim 1 , further comprising a drain basket positioned below the cutting component and coupled to the vertical shaft, the drain basket configured to catch debris.

9 . The debris-reducing drain insert of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of cutting edges of the cutting component are positioned at a non-zero angle relative to the cover.

10 . The debris-reducing drain insert of claim 1 , further comprising a guard positioned between the cover and the cutting component and comprising a plurality of guard openings to for water to flow through the guard to the cutting component.

11 . The debris-reducing drain insert of claim 10 , wherein an underside of the guard is configured to engage with the plurality of cutting edges to create a shearing action to cut debris.

12 . The debris-reducing drain insert of claim 1 , further comprising a cutting plate comprising a plurality of cutting plate edges, the cutting plate configured to create a shearing action with each of the plurality of cutting edges of plurality of cutting blades.

         13 . The debris-reducing drain insert of claim 12 , further comprising
a spring coupled to the shaft and positioned below the cutting plate; a clamp removeably coupled to the shaft and positioned below the spring; and wherein when the clamp is secured to the shaft, the spring applies a pressure to the cutting plate engaging the cutting plate with the cutting component.

14 . The debris-reducing drain insert of claim 12 , wherein each of the cutting component and the cutting plate are positioned orthogonal to the cover and the debris-reducing drain insert further comprises a guide plate positioned along a plane parallel to the cover.

15 . The debris-reducing drain insert of claim 14 , wherein the guide plate comprises a plurality of recesses configured to orient debris flowing into the cutting component.

         16 . A cutting device for a debris-reducing drain insert comprising:
a cutting component positionable on a central axis of a drain opening, the cutting component comprising a plurality of cutting edges configured to cut debris flowing down the drain opening; and a cutting plate positioned on the central axis and in contact with the cutting component, the cutting plate configured to engage with the cutting component to create a shearing action.

17 . The cutting device of claim 16 , wherein the cutting plate comprises a plurality of openings cutting openings that cut debris when engaged with at least one of the cutting edges of the cutting component.

18 . The cutting device of claim 16 , wherein the cutting component is configured to rotate about the central axis when provided electrical power while the cutting plate is stationary.

         19 . A cutting device for a debris-reducing drain insert comprising:
a cutting component positionable parallel to a central axis of a drain opening, the cutting component comprising a plurality of cutting edges configured to cut debris flowing down the drain opening; a cutting plate positioned parallel to the central axis and in contact with the cutting component, the cutting plate configured to engage with the cutting component to create a shearing action; and at least one guide plate positioned orthogonal to each of the cutting component and the cutting plate, the at least one guide plate comprising a plurality of recesses configured to guide debris to the cutting component.

20 . The cutting component of claim 19 , wherein the cutting component is configured to move laterally along a horizontal plane relative to the drain opening when provided electrical power while the cutting component is stationary.
