Tumbler with vent shield

Abstract

A tumbler with vent shield. A tumbler body mounts a cover to prevent spilling. The cover includes a spout opening and a vent opening. A spout cap selectively closes the spout opening, and the spout cap includes a frame mounting a vent shield which overlies the vent opening. The upper surface of the cover includes a funnel depression to direct liquid flow toward the vent opening.

1 . A tumbler with vent shield, comprising:
 a tumbler body having a base and at least one side wall extending upwardly from a periphery of said base to a rim;   a cover having a periphery sized and shaped to selectively engage said rim, said cover including a spout opening adjacent said cover periphery, and a vent opening spaced from said spout opening;   a spout cap selectively movable from a closed configuration blocking said spout opening, and an open configuration allowing dispensing from said spout opening, said spout cap including a frame extending therefrom, and further including a vent shield extending from said frame, said vent shield being sized and positioned on said frame so as to overlay said vent opening while being spaced axially a distance away therefrom, thereby leaving said vent opening open when said spout cap is in said closed configuration.   
     
     
         2 . A tumbler with vent shield as in  claim 1 , wherein said vent shield comprises a recess facing and aligned with said vent opening in said closed position.

A tumbler with vent shield as in  claim 2 , wherein said cover further includes a pin opening located intermediate said spout opening and said vent opening, and said spout cap further includes a mounting pin extending from said frame and defining an axis of rotation for said spout cap, said mounting pin being received within said pin opening such that said spout cap oscillates about the axis of said mounting pin between said open configuration and said closed configuration. 
     
     
         4 . A tumbler with vent shield as in  claim 2 , wherein an upper surface of said cover includes a funnel depression centered on said vent opening for directing liquid flow into said vent opening in said closed configuration.

A tumbler with vent shield as in  claim 4 , wherein said cover further includes a pin opening located intermediate said spout opening and said vent opening, and said spout cap further includes a mounting pin extending from said frame and defining an axis of rotation for said spout cap, said mounting pin being received within said pin opening such that said spout cap oscillates about the axis of said mounting pin between said open configuration and said closed configuration. 
     
     
         6 . A tumbler with vent shield as in  claim 4 , wherein said funnel depression is elongate in a direction radially outward from said vent opening. 
     
     
         7 . A tumbler with vent shield as in  claim 6 , wherein said funnel depression has an arcuate shape, as viewed in a side cross-section, defining a concave surface facing upward away from said tumbler. 
     
     
         8 . A tumbler with vent shield as in  claim 6 , wherein said funnel depression has a width to receive said spout cap therein in said open configuration. 
     
     
         9 . A tumbler with vent shield as in  claim 1 , wherein said vent opening is defined in said cover as an elongate and arcuate shape oriented with its concavity facing radially inward toward a center of said cover.
