Abstract

An ergonomic, arm-positioning pillow includes an ornamental design including an upper portion having a top surface for supporting the head of a sleeper and a bottom portion having a lower surface for supporting the arm-positioning pillow and having a first space extending at an oblique angle from a first space located along the lower surface for receiving an arm therein and supporting the sleeper to position the arm for managing the amount of pressure applied to the arm, and a second space located in the lower surface for receiving a second arm or for receiving the second arm to provide for ambidextrous use of the arm-positioning pillow and to obtain improved sleep performance in the form of reduced snoring and sleep apnea.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . An arm positioning pillow comprising:
a pillow top portion for supporting a sleeper's head, wherein the pillow top portion includes a top surface and a generally planar lower surface and the pillow top portion is formed from a material having a first resiliency; a plurality of separate base portions adjacent the pillow top portion lower surface for supporting the pillow top portion and formed from a material having a second resiliency that is less than the first resiliency of the pillow top portion material to support the pillow top portion, wherein the base portions are positioned to define a first recess extending at a first angle from one inlet formed below a first front edge of the pillow top portion towards a first rear edge of the pillow top portion and a second recess extending at a second angle divergent to the first angle, from the one inlet formed below the first front edge of the pillow top portion towards the first rear edge of the pillow top portion, so that an arm of the sleeper is repositionable between the first recess and the second recess relative to the sleeper's head without removing the arm of the sleeper from the positioning pillow; and
an access notch formed in the first front edge of the pillow top portion, wherein the access notch is located adjacent the one inlet to enable the arm of the sleeper to access the inlet from the top of the pillow top portion.

2 . The arm position pillow of claim 1 , wherein one or more of the base portions includes a second rear edge that extends to the first rear edge of the pillow top portion and is flushed with the first rear edge of the pillow top portion.

3 . The arm position pillow of claim 1 , wherein the access notch extends rearwardly to the one inlet.

4 . The arm position pillow of claim 1 , wherein one or more of the base portions includes a first right edge that extends to a second right edge of the top portion and is flushed with the second right edge of the top portion.

5 . The arm position pillow of claim 4 , wherein one or more of the base portions includes a first left edge that extends to a second left edge of the top portion and is flushed with the second left edge of the top portion.

6 . The arm position pillow of claim 1 , wherein the first front edge of the pillow top portion extends forwardly from a second front edge of the closest base portion to the first front edge at a distance that is more than the width of the narrowest portion of the first and second recesses.

7 . The arm position pillow of claim 1 , wherein one or more of the base portions includes a second rear edge that extends to the first rear edge of the pillow top portion and is flushed with the first rear edge of the pillow top portion, wherein one or more of the base portions includes a first right edge that extends to a second right edge of the pillow top portion and is flushed with the second right edge of the top portion, wherein one or more of the base portions includes a first left edge that extends to a second left edge of the top portion and is flushed with the second left edge of the top portion.

8 . The arm position pillow of claim 7 , wherein the first front edge of the pillow top portion extends forwardly from a second front edge of the closest base portion to the first front edge at a distance that is more than the width of the narrowest portion of the first and second recesses.

9 . An arm positioning pillow comprising:
a pillow top portion for supporting a sleeper's head, wherein the pillow top portion includes a top surface and a generally planar lower surface and the pillow top portion is formed from a material having a first resiliency; and a plurality of separate base portions adjacent the pillow top portion lower surface for supporting the pillow top portion and formed from a material having a second resiliency that is less than the first resiliency of the pillow top portion material to support the pillow top portion, wherein the base portions are positioned to define a first recess extending at a first angle from one inlet formed below a first front edge of the pillow top portion towards a first rear edge of the pillow top portion and a second recess extending at a second angle divergent to the first angle, from the one inlet formed below the first front edge of the pillow top portion towards the first rear edge of the pillow top portion, so that an arm of the sleeper is repositionable between the first recess and the second recess relative to the sleeper's head without removing the arm of the sleeper from the positioning pillow, wherein one or more of the base portions includes a second rear edge that extends to the first rear edge of the pillow top portion and is flushed with the first rear edge of the pillow top portion.

10 . The arm position pillow of claim 9 , wherein one or more of the base portions has a first right edge that extends to a second right edge of the top portion and is flushed with the second right edge of the top portion.

11 . The arm position pillow of claim 10 , wherein one or more of the base portions has a first left edge that extends to a second left edge of the top portion and is flushed with the second left edge of the top portion.

12 . The arm position pillow of claim 9 , wherein the first front edge of the pillow top portion extends forwardly from a second front edge of the closest base portion to the first front edge at a distance that is more than the width of the narrowest portion of the first and second recesses.
